Svobodová, Tereza ; Nečas, Vlastimil (advisor) ; Jirák, Jan (referee)
Media and politics as well as media and elections are very closely related with each other, that is why is the topic of this thesis presidential election in 2018 in the Czech Republic in the Czech newspaper. Quantitative content analysis was used to analyse framing of the presidential election in Hospodářské noviny, Lidové noviny and Mladá Fronta DNES. The main theoretical frame used is Entman's (1993) definition of framing. It is also analysed how balanced and neutral the news, including the analysis of incumbency bonus. Research of the neutrality and balance of the news is based on the Westerstahl's definition of objectivity. The thesis also compares results of the framing and unbias analysis with the framing and unbias analysis of the presidential election in 2013 by the author Tamara Kejlová (2014). The main goal of the comparison is to show the trends that are present in the media content related to presidential election in the Czech Republic. In the thesis I also provide context of the presidential election in the Czech Republic.
Television debates before the second round of the presidential election and their influence on voter decision - making
Kadlecová, Kateřina ; Štoll, Martin (advisor) ; Jirák, Jan (referee)
TV presidential debates are an interesting media and political phenomenon that is considered also as the peak of the presidential election campaign. For the first time, this television duel between the two main presidential candidates was broadcast in the US in 1960. In the Czech Republic, the practice of television presidential debates with the legalization of direct presidential elections, ie in 2013, was introduced. The two main candidates in the second round of the election were Miloš Zeman and Jiří Drahoš. Together they met in front of television cameras in only two cases - on TV Prima in the program Hledá se president 2018 and on Czech Television in the program Prezidentský duel - Finále. The aim of this thesis is to find out how the dramaturgy and the overall processing of the debate differ on private television and how, if it is produced by a public institution. Through qualitative content analysis and subsequent comparison, I was interested not only in the selection and sorting of topics, but also in the way of moderation, the visual and audio effects used during the debate or the role of the audience. Based on the findings from the theoretical part, I evaluated the differences in television debates in the Czech environment from the American one and, using data from a poll conducted by...
Media and geopolitics: Background of the functioning of Czech media after 1991 in a global contect
Pařízková, Nikola ; Jirák, Jan (advisor) ; Cebe, Jan (referee)
This thesis deals with the functioning of the media in the Czech Republic in the context of global changes after 1991. On the example of this country, it aims to understand how external influence on media within a certain state can be applied. The Czech Republic underwent a radical economic, political, social and cultural transformation with the end of the Cold War. This change was largely based on events in the international system. The main argument for this claim is that the Czech Republic is a small state located in the relatively strategic region of Central Eastern Europe. Given these and other conditions, it is almost impossible for the state to carry out an autonomous sovereign policy from a geopolitical point of view. It is influenced by the central players in the world system and relations between them. By this optics, the thesis also examines the functioning of the media. It tests the hypothesis that, even after the collapse of the Soviet Union and implementation of democratic and neoliberal frameworks, the external influence on the Czech media has not disappeared, only its essence has changed in relation to the wider global context. For this aim we chose primarily two indicators. One is the media legislation that has been adopted in the country since the late 1980s and is increasingly...
Fact-checking post hoc in media content
Jakubičková, Dominika ; Sládková, Hana (advisor) ; Jirák, Jan (referee)
This diploma thesis deals with the post hoc fact-checking of media content (fact-checking after the text has been published). It focuses primarily on user's fact-checking and on fact- checking organizations. Both types of fact-checking process share some similar characteristics and differ in other aspects. Although often they complement each other. To achieve more complex perspective, I decided to extend the theoretical part and use not only the fact- checking theory, the definition and typology of disinformation content, but also selected media theories and description of fact-checking organizations. In analytical part, I decided to focus on analysis of both sides of post hoc fact-checking - habits and attitudes of average users towards media and fact-checking organisations and also outputs of fact-checking organizations (fact-checking articles). The main goal was to develop a methodology, which could effectively interlink both sections of the field and to generate conclusions, which could have a positive impact on future trends of the post hoc fact-checking.
Czech Radio Dvojka - building contact with the audience
Ježek, Michal ; Jirák, Jan (advisor) ; Groman, Martin (referee)
The master's thesis Czech Radio Dvojka - building contact with the audience analyses the instruments, which is this station used to address listeners, respectively the recipients of media content. The thesis is based on the theoretical framework which is postulated by the sociologist John B. Thompson in the book The Media and Modernity, on his triad of interactions, which characterizes the effect of communication media. Whereas the first type "mediated quasi- interaction" characterizes unidirectional transmission of the radio station to a listener, the other two types - "mediated interaction" and "face to face interaction" characterize ways how the medium could overcome this unidirectional communication. Therefore this master's thesis analyses the selected programs of the station Czech Radio Dvojka, which represent these mentioned types. Thereafter the qualitative analysis analyses especially the instruments of moderators with use of the triple coding's type (open coding, axial coding, selective coding), because the moderators represent the station and substantially determine its communicative style. The master's thesis wants to verify the premise that the moderators significantly contribute to creating of impression, that the communication between the radio station (the media house) and listeners...
The Effect of Media on the Protection of Cultural Heritage: A Case Study of the Jewish Museum in Prague
Vágnerová, Tereza Aster ; Dolanský, Pavel (advisor) ; Bednařík, Petr (referee) ; Jirák, Jan (referee)
The Jewish Museum in Prague was founded in 1906, and it counts among the oldest Jewish museums in Europe. Visited by more than half a million people every year, it is one of the most visited museums in Prague. The former Jewish Quarter of Prague, where the museum is situated, was entered on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1992. The museum administers four historical synagogues, a Ceremonial Hall, the Old Jewish Cemetery, a number of depositories and archives, the Robert Guttmann Gallery, and a library with a multimedia center. This specialized Jewish studies library owns a rich book and archive fund, which contains more than 130,000 volumes about the history and culture of the Jews. Most Judaica and other items in the collection come from the property of Jewish communities and families murdered in the Holocaust. Therefore, the collection tells a lot about the history, traditions and customs of the Jewish inhabitants of Bohemia and Moravia. The above facts make the museum a guardian of not only Czech, but also of international cultural heritage. The year 1994 was a turning point for the Jewish Museum in Prague - it was the year when all the buildings of the museum were returned by the state to the Federation of Jewish Communities in the Czech Republic. The museum thus became a non-government...

Pavúková, Natália ; Jirák, Jan (advisor) ; Miessler, Jan (referee)
This diploma thesis focuses on fashion blogs and the perception of bloggers by their readers. The thesis is divided into three parts - theoretical, methodological and analytical. In the first part, I explain the terms that are associated with blogging and therefore journalism, online journalism, blogging, social networks, but also the character of journalist, blogger and the concept of an opinion leader. In the second part, I will present the procedures that I used for date collection, I will also introduce the research objective and describe the research file. In the last part, I describe the research itself, which I translated through a mixed analysis when I used both quantitative and qualitative approaches. Using a questionnaire survey, I perceived the perception of a fashion blogger from the viewpoint of its followers, their identification with the blogger's figure, but I also chose the supplementary question where I studied, whether the readers prefer fashion blogs or magazines and also the reason for their preferences. The results confirm the positive relationships of readers to the blogger, they consider him as an inspirational person who influences fashion trends, but also opinions on current topics. I see the added value of this diploma in revealing what readers think about bloggers and...

Dichotomy of Spoken and Written Language in the Internet Communication
Rybová, Aneta ; Jirák, Jan (advisor) ; Podzimek, Jan (referee)
This diploma thesis discusses the topic of spoken and written language forms and their mutual blending, especially in internet communication. The first part defines the terms of spoken and written language based on specialised literature. The focus is on how perception of this dichotomy has changed over time and the different approaches to the matter will be mentioned. Spoken and written language in this thesis are based on dichotomic aspects such as possibility/impossibility of preparation, monologic/dialogic signs, standard/substandard language and private/public tone. The specifics of the language on the Internet will be also shortly summarized. Since the sample analyzed in the second part of this thesis is an internet blog, the conclusion of the theoretical part contains also characteristics of blogs in general. In the introduction of the second part the analyzed sample is presented - that is texts of one internet blog. These texts are analyzed on all language levels. The focus is aimed especially on the signs indicating blending of spoken and written language, more precisely on those means that indicate spoken language in these graphically formed texts. The last part of the thesis is dedicated to the specific language means used in discussion forum that is a part of the blog, on background of...
