Suicidium in Penitentiary Practice
Dohnal, Petr ; Boukalová, Hedvika (referee) ; Loneková, Katarína (referee)
This rigorous work deals with important phenomenon which is known by humankind from time out of mind. It is the phenomenon of suicide, intensified in this case by the fact that it happens behind bars among convicted people who are imprisoned or held in custody. These people find themselves in completely different living conditions than they were used to. Hardly anybody can put up with it completely and that is the reason why frustration occurs which leads to aggression, apathy and others. In critical situations it can lead to self-harming, attempted suicide or even successful suicide. The aim of this rigorous work is thus explanation of causes of suicidal acting of accused and imprisoned people. The work deals with complex view of suicide rate among Czech convicts in the Czech prison system. It is focused on basic terms of suicide, its solutions, theory of aggression and own issues of suicide in penitentiary practice. Basic fundaments of this rigorous work are epistemological solutions arranged as follows: terminological, philosophical, religious, historical and psychological. It continues in theory of aggression finished by automutilation. The core of the work lies in the analysis of suicidal behavior of convicted people in penitentiary practice and their comparison from 2012 to 2015, except for...
Freiburg Personality Inventory in the Context of the Penitentiary Care
Volf, Petr ; Niederlová, Markéta (referee) ; Boukalová, Hedvika (referee)
The thesis aims to expand the possibilities for diagnosing sentenced persons by the Freiburg Personality Inventory, which appears to be, in terms of penal custody as a useful tool. There is only one Slovak translation of this method from 1984 including standards for a population already existent state. Its use is problematic past 23 years and unextended. In contrast, demand for updated diagnostic tools that are not too time-consuming and difficult to administrate, and which would also underwent scaling to a specific population sample, creates space for effective use of the FPI in penitentiary practice. The theoretical part contains introduction to the method, theoretical background and the basis of the FPI and its comparison with other instruments used for personality diagnostics, possibilities and limits of its use. At the same time it focuses on the specifics of the prison population, the description of the personality in terms of its structure and dynamics, and the possibility of diagnostics including the currently used diagnostic tools. It also includes a summary of intervention programs implemented in prisons of the Czech Republic. The main outputs of the empirical part are standards of FPI - K for prison population and a shortened, 47 item variant of FPI - V, while maintaining psychometric...

Emotional intelligence and possibilities of its recognition and application
Maršálek, Jan ; Boukalová, Hedvika (advisor) ; Niederlová, Markéta (referee)
The aim of the theorethical part of the thesis is to describe basic charac- teristics of concept of the emotional intelligence. The thesis summarizes two main theoretical approaches to EI: Mayer, Salovey et al. (1997) and Goleman (2000, 2011). Several currently used EI measurement methods are introduced, along with some of the principal reservations against the EI measurement as such. Practical applications of emotional intelligence along with theoretical possibilities of further development of EI are also briefly discussed. The empirical part summarizes the findings of combined quantitative- qualitative research realized in a sample of scout leaders. Using MSCEIT (Mayer et al., 2012), the research revealed that the scout leaders reached significantly lower EQ score in general EI, in Strategical EI branch and in subscales Using emotions and Understanding emotions. Reversely, they achieved significantly higher EQ score in subscale Managing emotions. The outputs of the qualitative enquiry are in direct contradiction to the quantitative outputs; the respondents agreed consentaneously that the scout education improved their emotional matureness, they also provided many particular examples and links between scouting and the develop- ment of the emotional intelligence. Possible explanations for this contrast...
Effective Treatment of Violent Offenders with Personality Disorder wihin the Penitentiary Custody
Jiřička, Václav ; Šípek, Jiří (advisor) ; Boukalová, Hedvika (referee) ; Sochůrek, Jan (referee)
This paper addresses the question of whether individual delinquent behaviour, or criminogenic risks that lead to it, can be reduced for convicted violence offenders with personality disorder, using the newly developed offence-oriented therapeutic program TERČ ("TARGET"). If so, how will these changes manifest in the recidivism rate, and how they will reflect the personality characteristics of inmates. TARGET was first systematically applied within a special treatment unit for prisoners with mental and behavioral disorders in Liberec Remand Prison in 2008. It is based on selected elements of the Ambulant intensive program (AIP) from Switzerland. A total of 100 convicts were entered TARGET from 2008 to 2015. 65 individuals completed the program successfully, and 57 were released again. The already released graduates of TARGET re-offended within 12 months in 10.4%. Of all admitted TARGET participants, a total of 30.2% either relapsed or failed during the program since 2009. Graduates showed positive, statistically significant changes in the monitored areas of life satisfaction, emotional stability, insight, self-control and aggression, while on scales representing personality disorder no positive, statistically significant effect was observed. For later re-offending prisoners, the changes were...

The second part focuses on the description of the "Get a job" rehabilitation program. Here, basic information on the implementation of the program (Ch. 6) is presented together with individual topics including the content, tutoring work specifics and examples of specific work done by prisoners (Ch. 7).
