The aim of this thesis is to translate six chapters from the book Frida Kahlo: 1907-2007, which originated under the guidance of the mexican writer Carlos Fuentes, and present a commentary of the translation. The first part the commentary provides a general translation analysis of the original text. The second focuses on translation problems and shifts and their solutions. The last part describes the selected translation method. There is an annex attached, consisting of the original text and the respective painting reproductions.

The aim of the present thesis is to translate Chapter IX. "The Rise of Terrorism" from Bernard Lewis's The Crisis of Islam from English into Czech and to lay out an analysis of the translation and the source text. This bachelor's thesis consists of the translation of the first part of the book A Story of England by the British author Christopher Hibbert and a commentary including translation analysis, the description of the translation method and the description of translation problems and shifts. The first part of the book deals with the history of England from the Neolithic times to 1066. It focuses mainly on the individual waves of immigration. It is a popular scientific text characterized by a number of terms, facts from British life, complex phrases, participles and a complex syntax. The diploma thesis Jan Zábrana, translator and poet - translating poetry while inspired by it? examines the relationship between the original works of Jan Zábrana and his translations, taking into account the similar thematic and formal inclinations of all the authors and the sociocultural context, preventing Jan Zábrana from publishing his own poetry. Based on the analysis of three variants of Zábrana's poem collections Utkvělé černé ikony, Stránky z deníku and Samosoud and his translations of poems by Allen Ginsberg, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Gregory Corso and Kenneth Patchen, the thesis aims at finding the tendencies and models present both in Zábrana's original poems and his translations.

RESUME The aim of this study was to make an adequate functional translation of two short stories - Cloud (Oblak) and Milky Way (Mléčná dráha) - taken from the book of contemporary Czech writer Jan Balabán We are here (Jsme tady) and its translation comments. The first three chapters of this diploma work present a multiple-aspect analysis of original texts, define the translation method and concept, which aim to reproduce correctly the aesthetic function of analyzed literary works with the strengthening their communicative and informational functions. The last two chapters are devoted to analysis of translational difficulties and changes, which take place in the course of work and primarily cover lexical and pragmatic levels of texts.

This bachelor thesis comprises a translation of the 20th chapter of Steven Pinker's The Blank Slate and of a commentary on the translation. The commentary consists of translation analysis of the source text, which describes all relevant intratextual and extratextual factors and is loosely based on the model of Christiane Nord. Other chapters outline the chosen translation method, various translation problems that occured in the translation process and ways of solving them. The commentary also describes translation shifts that can be found in the target text.
