Sexism in the Television Advertisement for Fragrances
Kovačková, Monika ; Marcelli, Miroslav (advisor) ; Havelková, Hana (referee)
Thesis "Sexism in the television advertisement for fragrances" analyzes the relationship with the media - especially television commercial- and the social construction called gender. The phenomenon advertisement and gender issues are trapped in their complexity. Advertisement is framed within the wider context of technical imagines, whose specific characteristics advertisement takes, but it is also attention paid its part formal and content aspects. Gender images in advertising are subjected to semiotic analysis, the traditional semiotic approach is enriched with the dimension of social context. Thesis aims to capture the complexity of the relationship between advertising messages and images of gender and bridge the gap between the two opposing poles, which the studies of these issues necessarily face: advertising reflects the current social climate vs. advertising forms society and its structure. Text reflects both these trends. The media representations in the advertising message are viewed as an important factor shaping gender. It turns out that the society and its concept of gender and advertising with its media images of gender form a whole, all of which parts influence and form each other. The aim of this work is this process subjected to critical examination and semiotic analysis.

Geometry and stability study of nucleic acids distinctive single-strand motifs
Říhová, Martina ; Štěpánek, Josef (advisor) ; Mašek, Vlastimil (referee)
Subject of this thesis is the regulatory DNA segment, the so-called Serum Response Element (SRE), which possesses highly specific structural characteristics and its structural flexibility plays probably a key role in its physiological activity. Structural properties of 16-mer SRE segments capable to form hairpin structures were studied by means of accurate measurements of temperature dependent Raman spectra. Due to the close connection of oligonucleotide chain structural stability with the stacking interaction, temperature dependent Raman and UV absorption spectra were measured on dinucleotides serving as a simple model system for the stacking investigation. The measurements results processed by factor analysis provided characteristic spectral patterns and confirmed that stacking interaction depends on the base order. By fitting the thermodynamic equilibrium equations to the factor analysis outputs, the thermodynamic characteristics of the thermally induces structural changes in hairpinforming complexes were estimated and difference spectra characterizing opened and closed hairpins, which enable the further specification of the geometry of these complexes, were obtained.

Early child bilingvism and trilingvism-specific aspects, possibilities and limits
Scholl, Lucie ; Gillernová, Ilona (referee) ; Mertin, Václav (referee)
This PhDr. thesis is an extention of my diploma thesis Current Trends in the Field of Child Bilingualism (2010). The new topic is the field of trilingualism. The subject of this thesis is the natural bilingualism and trilingualism in children. In the theoretical section, the work has the objective of providing a comprehensive overview of the current perspective on specific aspects, possibilities and limits of multilingualism, with emphasis on summarizing the latest studies and research. The empirical section of this thesis is drawn up as a mapping study. The original part analyses sample of twenty five pre-school children from Czech-German bilingual families and the new part analyses ten children from trilingual families. The families are studied for their strategies of bilingual/trilingual upbringing and the proportional representation of these languages in their children's everyday life. The data are analyzed with the aid of qualitative research methods. The principal method of collecting data from the parents in this regard was by a questionnaire. Further The Active Vocabulary Test ASWT-R was conducted on children from these families. With trilingualism there was a focus on specific aspects which differ from bilingualism. Qualitative analyses of the data showed the parents' approach to bilingual...

Gender Stereotypes in Czech School Books
Teoretická část pojednává o socializaci dětí a vrůstání do rodových rolí. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)

Deliberate self-harm in adolescence within the context of family system
Řehulová, Alena ; Morávková Krejčová, Lenka (referee) ; Šulová, Lenka (advisor)
Main aim of this diploma thesis is to summarize mostly foreign findings concerning deliberate self-harm in adolescence with emphasis on family context. Theoretical part deals with definition, prevalence, functions, course, risk factors and possibilities of prevention and therapy of self-harm. There are also mentioned findings about family system and its possible influence on personality. The research question of empirical part is interested in traits of those families, where adolescent self-harm. Family context is shown both on case studies and on summary based on families of 20 adolescents. These results are in accordance with previous research and also suggest some new characteristics for next verification. Characteristics concerning discordant family relationships (both between parents and between one parent and adolescent) seem to be most important. Majority of respondents feel like their parents are not interested in them at all and are too critical. Almost half of them said that they tried to draw their attention by engaging in risk behavior (including self-harm). There was also high incidence of self-destructive behavior in parents of these adolescents.

A roma child in foster care of a family belonging to majoritarian society
Zahradníková, Šárka ; Kremličková, Marta (referee) ; Lorenzová, Jitka (advisor)
The thesis presents the results of qualitative research conducted in foster families raising Roma children. The data obtained during unstructured interviews was analyzed using both what is called a simple and a narrative analysis. The results of the simple and the narrative analysis are presented to show the effects of raising a Roma child on these white families. The results suggest that the life of such families is affected by racism in the society while the characteristics described as typical for the Romas do not influence the family life more than other individual characteristics of the children. Furthermore, the process of how children in care become adults is described. The major factors which influence the process are: a complicated search for identity, handicaps gained by the children in their past and their low self-esteem. It takes longer than is normally expected for these children to become stable and mature - often until they are between 25 and 30 years old. Separation, which is the most important part of this process, is painful both for the children and for their families. The foster parents usually adopt either positive or negative views according to the outcomes of this process. In the latter case, the foster parents learn to cope with the negative feelings by realizing that it is only the...
