Aggression and Drug Dependence - Looking for a Relationship
A. Šrahůlková einlernen.

Personal management of university students
Dejmalová, Lenka ; Starý, Karel (advisor) ; Šebková, Helena (referee) ; Matošková, Jana (referee)
The aim of the thesis is to explore the first-year undergraduates' strategies of self-management. The thesis contains the theoretical and empirical part. The theoretical part deals with the transformation of higher education in Europe and in the Czech Republic followed by the changes in the university student career and lifestyle. Special attention is devoted to university socialization, the personality of the university student and their new roles. The next chapter of the theoretical part presents the concepts of personal management and academic self-management. Effective and successful university study and personal strategies of self-management then appear to be interdependent. The aim of the qualitative research is to explore and describe how the first-year students organize their study. Firstly, the content analysis of selected study plans was carried out and the orientation questionnaire survey was conducted among 165 first-year students at the Faculty of Philosophy and Arts, University of West Bohemia in Pilsen. Later, also other methods were applied: the diary of study week and electronic interviews. The data were analysed through open coding and thematic coding. Two basic types of students were distinguished based on the dominant out-of-class activities and the diversity of tendencies in independent...

Roots of Moravian Urban Structure
Mohelník, Ladislav ; Löw, Jiří (referee) ; Prokeš, Oldřich (referee) ; Hrabec, Josef (referee) ; Koutný, Jan (advisor)
The thesis has been written on the basis of main architectural concepts and their application in real life within a historical context investigation. Main architectural concepts are represented in a harmony of architectural composition that deals with relations among form, structure and space in the unique art work. Genius loci play very important role in the architectural creation - it represents a special and extra-ordinary urban locality and its architectural value in the historical, geographical and cultural context. The origin of Ostravice village within the historical frame concept of Moravia domain is the topic of this thesis. Other historical documents gave information about Bruneswerde as the Brno Castle. That means Brno Castle had to be founded not in Brno (as it has been consid-ered for many years) but it was located in Beskydy at Ostravice. The sacred city – Civitas Dei had been located in Bruneswerde region in early ages as the centre of European culture, education and spiritual life. Civitas Dei – divine Jerusalem in the transcription of St. Augustine's book De civitate Dei – is not only glorification of God and religious fantasy. It is also one of significant clues for recognition of historical architecture. The depiction of unknown settlement from the book of unde-fined origin is a superb testimony about extinct architectural works. They are legible from cadastral maps. Brno Castle - residence of nobility and power served shelter to St. Vojtěch, St. Prokop, St. Václav and St. Ludmila as it is obvious for the mentioned picture. Three major temples, three com-position axes symbolized by three towers on coins are in analogical relation to Brno triangle of four saints - the Saint family of Brno temples. Powerful ambitions of Brno City principals and clergy are inscribed into the urban structure in the way of composition relations which are legible to them who devoted themselves to the mystery of harmony. The absence of historical continuity affects personal attitudes and also identity of the whole community. The architecture truly reflects the past state of polis and it is eloquent even after its death. The architectural composition relations influence the natural environment for long time, longer than the architectural work existence. The geometric order of Renaissance Brno existence has not been in attention of architects so far. The features were discovered in characteristic paintings by Albrecht Durer. They are evidently secret works of the genius. A meaningful collaborator and follower in the extensive project was also his friend Jan Čert from Brno and lately from Vienna. His noble genealogy played a significant role in history of Silesia and Moravia for centuries. It is tendency to consider him as Austrian or even German architect. It is because of the fact that the genealogy tree of his noble family had roots in Moravia. It is supposed that Durer with Jan Čert´s support created the extraordinarily monumental architectural and urban works in Brno. A remarkable consensus in the urban composition of two squares and transition of traditional urban structure of Ostravice Civitas Dei into the modern Brno is also confirmed due to the identification of noble creators and owners, who were at the foundation, transformation and extinction of elements of the Moravian urban structure.

(Czech) Photography in the design of book covers in the 1960´s
BOLKOVÁ, Petra
Petra Bolková will be examining in her thesis the evolution of photography used on book covers in the 1960s; the period marked with certain political and cultural liberation. This study will attempt describing systematically in what ways certain artists and writers collaborated and what the difficulties of these collaborations were. It will also be examined how the author of a book and the artist delegated to design the book cover; the initial advertisement for a book, were influencing each other. What is more, the extent to which the graphic art reflects the content of the written word will be studied. Book covers became a covert space for experimenting with or even establishing new trends in the 1960s. Books covers became a new, independent fine art discipline which, essentially, was censored or criticized only occasionally. The goal of this thesis will also be gradually finding the numerous common grounds between photography, book typography and the final design, as photography and photomontage were used on book covers more frequently then classic original illustrations. Last but not least, this thesis will be looking at what emphasis was put on the visual side and how it was conditioned culturally or politically ect.

Czech sharing on Expo 1958 in Brusel and its image on contemporary press
Kacerovská, Soňa ; Bednařík, Petr (advisor) ; Sládková, Hana (referee)
v AJ The world exhibition in Brussels in 1958 marked an important event in the history of the Czechoslovakian totalitarian art history. Until today it is still a reminder of the high quality art handicraft, design and multimedia formation. In the atmosphere of the Cold war the EXPO 58 became a symbolical clash of the capitalist and socialist principles of government and a comparison of skills and abilities of their representatives (US and USSR). The attention of the visitors and the media surprisingly concentrated on the Czechoslovakian exposition, which apart from the traditional products presented also some new initiations in artistic and technological branches and contributed to the establishment of the so called Brussels life style. It was the Czechoslovakian success which helped the media to use the mechanisms of propaganda. Using three daily newspaper and two weekly magazines this work is trying to capture how was the Czechoslovakian participation showed to the public and what features of propaganda were used.

Syntactic approach to agreement (with a special view to agreement of predicate with subject)
Klimešová, Petra ; Lehečková, Eva (advisor) ; Adam, Robert (referee)
This thesis deals with syntactic relation of subject-predicate agreement in Czech, concentrating on special cases. The theoretical part describes the term "agreement" in terms of the traditional dependency approach, presents the definition of the term and specifies its width. It describes the subject-predicate agreement from from other theoretical perspectives, too (for example generative grammar analysis etc.). The main part of this theoretical chapter contains particular cases of subject-predicate agreement, as described in Czech grammars and textbooks. However, this description does not take into account all options and variants of agreement used in everyday conversation. Therefore, we investigate the problem of agreement through an empirical survey, which serves us to identify more complex cases (multiple subject with disjunctive, adversative and compared relation between its constituents; based on the cases found in the Czech National Corpus). Another source of data comes from a questionnaire, which maps how complex agreement structures are acquired by users of the language (students of the Faculty of Arts, Charles University). The data found in Czech National Corpus enable us to specify tendencies of agreement in more complicated cases; these tendencies should be included in the grammatical...

The rococo aestetics in the Marivaux's dramas
Očenáš, Marek ; Pohorský, Aleš (advisor) ; Jamek, Václav (referee)
In cornparison to the superiority of c1assicisrn, the art and the literature of 18th century were considered decadent already during the period of its inception. The decorative style which was fashionable in the first half of this century was called "rocaille". The name of "rococo style" was created by putting together two words "rocaille" and "baroco" (baroque). This term refers to irregularity and to non-uniformity. That's why the current tlowery love style of language is titled also "late baroque style" in France. This term isn't convenient, because nowadays people aren't used to tum to supematural world, but by putting accent on sensibility of individual they prefer earthly joys that need to be changed to avoid uniformity. By diverging frorn c1assicist roles of the Louis XIV's century, the art of the first half of 18th century differs frorn the baroque style also in the literature, even though sorne tendencies are the same in both styles. In the 60's of 20th century, there are sorne literary works whose authors are trying to justify validity of rococo style also in the literature, as its decorative style was already acknowledged by historians of art. Following these innovating thoughts and the study frorn Jean Weisgerber, the purpose ofthis dissertation is to prove the originality of the literature of...

On the origin of words (Freshwater Fish Labelling Etymology in the Czech Republic and European English-speaking countries)
Novák, Lukáš ; Řezníček, Jan (advisor) ; Rajchlová, Štěpánka (referee)
The thesis doesn't have the tendency or ambition to reach the particular conclusion or final solution (which would be at least as debatable as the construction that it is based on). But it should bring different approach and focus on selected animal genus (our distant ancestors), accepting them as a contemporary cultural, economical and culinary interest. Insight trough the prism of tendency, specifics and unwritten rules of linguistics, under the thumb of cultural representativneness and its identification. The contact of two distinc worlds, antithesises. The silent and peaceful world of fishes, that has retained the objectified prism of lucent wall under the water level, which singularises it from antropocentric world of "those", who think to stand on the top of imaginary pyramid. The work is divided in three parts: Introductory principles, etymological research and addendum, which interprets fish from the art, astronomy, folklore, and booklore point of view.

Historical roots of the conemporary minimalistic cinema
Böhm, Michal ; HOLÝ, Zdeněk (advisor) ; BOUDA, Marek (referee)
Mimalism represents a film style which still partially predominates on the contemporary art festivals although it reached its peak during in the beginning of the 21. century. Minimalism is a style which supresses the pallete of formalistic tools, expressive elements and typical narative structures and drama. It also works extensively with time and the depiction of everyday. Minimalistic cinema experience thus stimulates the audience to make their own interpretations of the story and the form altogether. The aim of this work is to analyze those historical cinema tendencies that bear most resemblance to the modern style of minimalism. I consider these films (and styles) to be the most predetermenative to the style of minimalism: Italian neorealism, spiritual work of Ozu and Bresson, experimental structural movies, the cinematic masterpiece Jean Dielman, 23 Commerce Quay, 1080 Brussels from Chantal Akerman and Antonionis movies with their narative structure.
