Activism During Czech Presidency of the Council of the EU: Human Rights Advocacy of Amnesty International Czech Republic
Dobrovolná, Eva ; Frič, Pavol (advisor) ; Mička, Pavel (referee)
The thesis explores the unique structure of political opportunity that emerged in front of Czech civil society organizations during the Czech presidency to the Council of the EU. Case study analyses how the Czech section of Amnesty International (AI CR) influenced public- policy agenda in the area of human rights. The starting point for the thesis is the formulation of the problem which is considered to be the weak influence of civil society organizations over public policy agenda as well as in-adequate use of the structure of political opportunity. Based on the structure of political opportunity theory we sought to determine whether the organization succeeded in mobilization of its internal structure and resources. We also focused on the transnational aspect of the opportunity. We tested the validity of hypotheses in a quantitative way when we measured the indicators of transactional capacity and mobilization capacity. According to the results AI CR was not able to mobilize enough activists. On the other hand, it was able to use the opportunity for transnational mobilization and networking. The most successful methods of activism proved to be those without confrontation. Further, the organizational structure of the organization is affected by bureaucracy which impedes its mobilization potential.

Hrdina, Matouš ; Nečas, Vlastimil (advisor) ; Švelch, Jaroslav (referee)
The Master's thesis Iranian opposition and blogging - the phenomenon of Citizen journalism in a non-free society is focused on analysis of blogging as an opposition's communication tool within the nondemocratic regimes, contemporary Iran in particular. The research question is How can be the opposition's communication performed by blogging and what are the limitations and possibilities of such communication. The primary hypothesis is that the blogs are not used for direct manangement of opposition's actions, but rather as an alternative space for free expression. Four opposition's blogs written in english are analysed by means of qualitative analysis. The main criteria for selection of blogs were that the blog should be actualised on regular basis, based in Iran or at least written by a native Iranian, and clearly be in favour of the opposition's ideology. Content published between march 2009 and march 2010 was selected for analysis, for it was the period of disputed presidential election and following citizen's unrest in Iran. The issues of media's effects are not discussed in the thesis. Aside of the analysis, certain theoretical models of communication and their potential use within Iran's blogosphere are discussed. The analysis finally confirms that the bloggers have a potential to become...

Kuřík, Bohuslav ; Haluzík, Radovan (advisor) ; Barša, Pavel (referee)
Thesis "Activists on the Road to Zapatista Territory" gives a resonance of actual results of my research among activists in Chiapas and Germany with contemporary theories. Based in theories of globalization and social movement and in dialogue with fieldwork data, it elaborates proper analytical concepts. These concepts enable to study journeys of activists to the Zapatista territory in Mexican state of Chiapas. Thesis aims to follow concepts of neo- zapatistas networks, which emerged around indigenous Zapatists and spread all over the World. Middle-Class activists from Germany enter these networks while travelling to Chiapas. Thesis scrutinize the nature of six months' journeys of activists and especially focus on transformation of so-called Imaginative knowledge of the World to Experienced knowledge of the World in the context of exoticism, poverty and Zapatista resistence.
ID - IDENTITY (UN) KNOWN (time specific in-cognito in-stant id - entity)
Janečková, Zuzana ; Babák, Petr (referee) ; Rozbořil, Blahoslav (referee) ; Chamonikolasová, Kaliopi (referee) ; Ruller, Tomáš (advisor)
This dissertation focuses on va-rious strategies of presenting identity in contemporary art and the current trend of forming its mutations and mystifications. It deals with approaches such as when the name of an artist is absent from his performance, various forms of concealment, and the subsequent detection of an artist. The term “anonymity” is not examined as its mere literal definition, but it subsequently forks into other related meanings. The introduction points at our daily meetings with anonymity, the condensation of information stemming from all spheres including the sphere of visual arts. The subject of the dissertation is explored though the influence of media operating at a given time (time-specific) and a given place (site-specific): here and now. The text primarily deals with the phenomenon of being “anonymous”. While examining this topic, the period starting with the 1990s is discussed and supplemented by examples from the history of Slovak, Czech, and international visual art with extensions to literature, music and film. It closely focuses on the following four bi-polar forms of anonymity: celebrity / anonymous artist, art groups / collective exhibitions, street art / net art, signature art / untitled art. These terms are defined and organized into dictionary entries (containing both names of artists and definitions of terms). Comprising of over two hundred words, a hybrid thematic dictionary has been produced. It consists of already existing definitions taken from the Slovak and Czech mutations of Wikipedia which are quoted with consistence with each entry. The collaboration with Wikipedia is based on subsequent addition of the author’s definitions and thus supplements it with missing information from the sphere of visual arts. The text also deals with a current trend of renaming as a symbol of a hegemonic tool of power. The terms a.k.a., name, monogram, nick, and pseudonym are explored.
Speed networking and Imagine the future: techniques to facilitate making the social innovations
V rámci přednášky si vyzkoušíme dvě techniky Bleskový networking a techniku Představme si budoucnost.

Gender a aktivismus v českém antiglobalizačním hnutí
Kolářová, Marta
Activism in the Czech anti-globalization movement from a gender perspective is examined. The article focuses on the representation of men and women. The status of men and women and gender divison of labour are investigated. It is argued that there is a gap between the ideology of the movement and the real fulfilment of the ideals from a gender perspective. Women participate less than men, their position is inferior and there is gendered division of activities in the movement
