The National Theatre during the "Normalization Era"
Volfová, Viktorie ; Kudlová, Klára (advisor) ; Šmíd, Marek (referee)
The aim of the thesis is to present the functioning of the National Theatre in Prague under the ideological supervision of the ruling Communist Party in the years 1968-1989. The included chapters aim to provide a comprehensive picture of cultural policy during the so-called normalization period. In these conditions, the National Theatre also carried out its activities. The first part deals with the socio-historical context and selected events that influenced further political developments in the country. The entry of Warsaw Pact troops into Czechoslovakia led to a change in the existing conditions, consolidating power and censorship. Therefore, the second part describes the Czechoslovak cultural state apparatus, individual institutions, and their activities during the defined period. It explores how the state regulated culture and the censorship regulations that were enforced. The third part generally presents the impact of the political changes after 1968 on the theater scene. The fourth pivotal part of the work focuses directly on the National Theatre, not only on its dramatic and staging directions but also on its selected personalities. This part is directly followed by a case study containing an interview with actress Taťjana Medvecká, who has been active in the National Theatre since 1975....
New corporate design of Švandovo divadlo
Španělová, Klára ; Slanec, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Malý, Radek (referee)
The work focuses on a Corporate design that shapes the brand identity. The goal is to design and create a new Corporate design for the Švandovo Theatre. In the theoretical part, I describe the functions of graphic design in a general sense. Then, I focus on the Corporate design and explain why it is crucial for all brands in the context of communication. I also examine, how local theater institutions use graphic design. I delve deeper into theaters that have decided to completely change their visual identity and have undergone a redesign. Lastly, I analyze the current visual style of the Švandovo Theatre, searching for specific challenges and opportunities for change. Using the acquired knowledge, I present my original proposal for a new graphic solution. It includes the logo, its variations, a specific color palette, and typefaces. I further present the visual style on a series of four different posters that advertise Švandovo Theatre's performances. I complement it with the graphic design of the tickets, the program, and the theater's promotional items. The main output of the work is a graphic manual that also describes the inspiration and meaning of each decision made in creating the graphic solution.
Media Response to Erben's Unfading Bouquet
Protasevičová, Alexandra ; Novotný, David Jan (advisor) ; Čeňková, Jana (referee)
The thesis deals with a comparison and compilation of the media response to the various versions of Karel Jaromír Erben's The Bouquet. The subject of comparison is the multiple reviews, starting with those published in the press immediately after the first historical publication of the poetry collection, followed by the reaction to the theatrical production at the Semafor theatre in 1972, to the reactions to the more modern adaptation in 2009. The theatrical production at the National Theatre, which premiered in 2019, was chosen for a further appropriate comparison. The thesis also focuses on film production, specifically Bouquet, directed by F. A. Brabec from 2000. The aim of the thesis is to answer the question of how the different versions of Erben's Bouquet differ, and what causes the significant differences. Another question is why artists feel the need to return to the work and reinterpret the story according to them. The thesis is a critical-historical analysis, bringing a media perspective, but also a cultural-political one, with a focus on the personal dimension.

Dance in Brno

"Ideal contemporary dance theatre" is the research issue of the pre-diploma thesis, which was published in book form.
