iReporters of Czech televisiion - shoot videos and become a star

The dissertation analyzes the iReporter project, which allows viewers to become involved in Czech Television broadcasting. The dissertation is divided into theoretical and practical parts. The theoretical part deals with participatory (citizen) journalism, both abroad and in the Czech Republic. I attempt to outline the history and present of public involvement in the production of news, with a focus on TV- related participatory journalism and Czech Television in particular. The dissertation describes the way in which viewers became increasingly involved in TV broadcasting over time, be it in movies, TV series, entertainment programs or news reporting. I also explain how television began to utilize new media, mobile journalism and social networks, all of which brought it much closer to its viewers. The theoretical study is followed by a practical part focused on the iReporter project. For example, it provides information about the people in charge of the project, the number of participating contributors, the process a video takes to get on the screen, the regions with the most active iReporters and the programs/shows which use their videos the most. Representation of the Korean Peninsula in the news of Czech Television in years 2015-2020

The diploma thesis introduces the media image of Korean Peninsula within the news of Czech Television from 2015 to 2020. Korean Peninsula is an incredibly interesting area in terms of history, politics, economics, culture and international relations, including relations between the two Koreas and the Czech Republic. Czech Television was chosen to depict the two state units existing on the Korean Peninsula, which should - due to its specific position as a public service medium - provide viewers objective and impartial news. The theoretical part introduces the basic concepts and theories, focusing on the media public service broadcasting, media construction of reality, gatekeeping and agenda-setting. Considerable attention is also given to Czech Television itself and the Korean Peninsula, where among the other things, the key historical moments of this region are briefly explained and the media environment of both Koreas is overviewed closely. In the practical part, the collected data is analyzed, both quantitative and qualitative methods. Within the content analysis, the data are sorted by frequency, order, topic or tone of the content. TV debates as an tool of pre-election communication of candidates in the Presidential election 2018

This thesis deals with the presidential debates in the second round of the presidential election in 2018, when Miloš Zeman and Jiří Drahoš met in duels. In the theoretical part of the thesis, I will explain the concepts related to the political communication and introduce the development of political campaigns. Then, I will focus on the development and history of political debates in the world as well as in Czechia. I will also focus on Czech television market and the differences between public and commercial broadcasters. In the practical part, I will perform a quantitative content analysis, which aims to determine whether the candidates used the topics, that the Public Opinion Reseach Center (CVVM) evaluated as the most important for the public. Next, I will perform a pragmalinguistic analysis, which will help to find out whether any of the debates favored any of the candidates. I will also compare the formats of the debates as well as the topics discussed to find out the differences between debate on public and commercial broadcaster. Interactive methods of TV presenting (plasma,full graphics) and their usage in ČT24 news prgrammes

In this thesis the author deals with the phenomenon of broadcast presentation with the help of graphic accompaniment, which is displayed on a large-format background during the studio performance of a news anchor. This thesis focuses on what the preparation and production of these articles entails, how they are handled and how various members of the television crew are involved in the whole process. This is achieved through interviews with several employees of the ČT24 news channel. Individual phases are represented by three selected programs produced by ČT24. Their broadcast throughout one specific day is then examined by the method of qualitative analysis of the content and describes which forms of interactive contributions were applied. The introductory part of the thesis offers basic theoretical background. It introduces the general concepts associated with the researched phenomenon and consequently deals with digitisation, the characteristics of ČT24 broadcast studios, and lastly, the role of the news presenters and news graphics.

Media image of the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup in CT Sport

This Bachelor Thesis "Media image of the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup in CT Sport" deals with the overall concept of championship, that took place in China, and its presentation in CT Sport. The goal of this thesis is detailed analysis of television broadcasts and the work of moderators, reporters and commentators. The theoretical part defines the news values, concept of agenda-setting, framing and also insight into patriotism and mythology. There is description of the Czechoslovak history and Czech basketball, furthermore the first live stream and the process of basketball broadcasting in Czech televisoin. This basketball broadcast is being explored using qualitative content analysis. The results of the analysis describe the media image of the Basketball World Cup, how the pre-game studios took place, how much space was given to reports and interviews, and what was the role of commentators.

Usage of social network Instagram for news coverage in case of the Czech Television

This thesis examines the social network Instagram as a means of news coverage, specifically in case of the Czech Television. The theoretical part of the thesis brings a complex description of Instagram including its evolution and the most important terms. The practical part brings results of quantitative analysis of the form and content of posts added to instagram profile ct24zive in 30 following days. For better context we also simultaneously analyze profile bbcnews. The aim of this thesis is to compare two approaches to management of Instagram profile of public service media. The BBC fits the environment of social media by bringing entertaining, soft news content. On the contrary, the Czech TV tries to provide complex news service for young audience for which Instagram is one of the most important sources of information. Description of these different approaches could inspire other media in creating and managing their Instagram profiles. The research also focuses on the way of using defined instagram in- struments. Twenty Years of the TV Show Kouzelná školka (Magic Kindergarten) in the Czech Television

The bachelor's thesis entitled "Twenty Years of the TV Show Magic Kindergarten on the Czech Television" deals with the TV show Magic Kindergarten for preschool children on the Czech television public broadcasting. The goal of the thesis is to find and describe basic changes of the show in the period of twenty years of its broadcasting history. Before the research part, the issue of broadcasting for children and its specifics, the history of composed television shows for children in the Czech Republic and the current state of composed TV shows for children are introduced. Following part of the thesis is dedicated to the TV show Magic Kindergarten - basic description and characteristics of the cited composed television show designed for the youngest viewers. The research goal is to trace changes in both formal side of the show - its length, formal structure, design of the studio, music component, graphics, moderation, and changes in the content - content structure of the show, characteristics of broadcasted shows, content of hosts' inputs, all that on the sample of forty episodes (two episodes for each year of the Magic Kindergarten 1999-2019). Research methods consist of the study of specialized literature, content analysis and comparative research on separate episodes of the sample.

News Comics as the new form of online reporting on ČT24 website

This bachelor's thesis concerns News Comics, which online journalists from Czech Television have published on the ČT24 website since 20th May 2019. This format connects comics and television news and its main purpose is to attract a young audience to the content that Czech Television produces. The concept of News Comics consists of journalists choosing television news reports from broadcasted news programs and transforming them into multi-paged comics. This bachelor's thesis practically covers the process of producing News Comics, which has accelerated considerably because of using mobile application. Furthermore, I mention all of the staff members who are involved in the process of production and I describe what topics News Comics cover. The main purpose of this thesis is to confirm whether or not the targeted young audience is truly reading News Comics. Additionally, I ask if the artists behind the comics are meeting the central values of the news alongside their artistic freedom. This thesis explores the different aspects of the two genres. Another part of the bachelor's thesis includes a brief history of comics and the transformation of Czech Television news content towards digital media with the growing presence of technology.

Broadcasting with a Face Mask - Insight into Czech TV News Production in the middle of the Coronavirus Crisis

The thesis documents circumstances of TV news production at the time when the government was taking unprecedented measures to prevent from spreading of a new type of coronavirus (SARS- CoV-2). The documentation is based on ten interviews with Czech Television reporters and anchormen together with both the analysis and interpretation of these interviews. The work is bringing the evidence of journalists from the most turbulent period. It makes efforts to contextualize how the journalists perceived the government interventions as well as enforced changes in the course of their work. The thesis reflects also the role of the journalists themselves and how they see it themselves. The majority of interviews were done during emergency rule. The final text is based on oral history method alongside with the reflection on contact points with journalism. It reflects also on a possibility whether the coronavirus crisis might move both mentioned professions forward.
