An Analysis of Children's Drawing as an Additional Tool for Assessing

This thesis deals with the options found in children's drawings symptoms that might help in uncovering school failure. The thesis consists of a theoretical and research part. The theoretical part is based on knowledge of the literature and the praxis. The first chapter describes the causes and symptoms of school failure. The second chapter deals with drawings and by drawing tests. There is described the methods and techniques used in my research in the third chapter. The research section contains the survey whose main objective was to confirm certain features of the drawing containing the failed student. The results of the survey were achieved through drawings, "Questionnaire of self - conception pupils' school success" by Z. Matějček and M. Vágnerová, analysis of average marks and interviews with teachers. The aim is to characterize the symptoms of failed student in the drawing.
Comparison of Psychological and Artistic Aspects in the Artwork of Preschool Age

The aim of the diploma work is the identification of the common as well as the different aspects of children's drawings from both the artistic and developmental perspective. The goal of this thesis is to assemblele a record sheet on theoretical and empirical knowledge, which could also serve as a guide for kindergarten teachers when handling children's drawing. The theoretical part is split into two chapters: the development of personality of a preschool child, where the developmental stages from prenatal to preschool age are described; and children's drawing describing the progression, characteristic features, most common motifs and their possible utilisation in practice. The empirical part deals with qualitative research of preschool children focusing on analysis and comparison of children's drawing. An important part of the thesis is the record sheet, which is included in the empirical part.

Abstract The submitted dissertation is focused on the observation of difficulties in the drawing development of preschool children. Drawing is a typical means of expression of a child, it is often considered as a spontaneous and natural activity. Nevertheless in the population of preschool children we may find some kids who do not draw at all, or they start to draw at a much later stage than it is common amongst the ordinary population, or they may also react negatively to drawing. Within this work a phenomenon in which the child's drawing distinctively does not correspond to his cognitive abilities due to the risk of a specific disability of drawing adoption (dyspinxia) or due to another crisis of imaging in the preschool age. The focus of the research lies in the processing of quantitative methods (intellectual abilities test, drawing tests), however additional information is also derived from the qualitative methods (anamnesis, interview, observation, essay). This essay discusses about the children's drawings as a tool for educational and psychological assessment. The essay describes about the historical interest in children's drawing, which is the period of preschool age from the perspective of development psychology. This is the most important period when the child uses drawing as a communication and diagnostic tool. It also focuses on the use of children's drawings in the pedagogical-psychological diagnostics. It also include developmental traits of children's drawings, interpretation and drawing tests.
Development of children's drawing and fields of application

The bachelor's thesis seeks to examine children's drawing development and fields of application. The first chapter describes children's drawing development from two perspectives: the changing attitudes towards the child as an artist and a time-line of research into children's drawing. Second part of the thesis contains fields of application of children's drawing in therapeutical approaches to art therapy. Finally, practical part offers a research proposal, which aims to survey therapeutical approaches to art therapy in the Czech Republic.
Stimulation of Graphomotoric Development of Pre-School Children

The thesis is focused on the description, monitoring and stimulation graphomotorics development of preschool children. It is divided into theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part deals with the development of the individual in preschoolers, hygiene and work habits which are important for graphomotorical development. It also discusses the development of graphomotorics and drawings. It also includes a description of graphomotor difficulties and subsequently programs that help stimulate graphomotorics development. The practical part consists of a qualitative research whose objective is to monitor a description of the effect graphomotoric stimulation in children attending a particular graphomotorical course. There is monitored the status and then move of seven children in selected areas before the course and after the course in the form of published case studies.
Signals of anxiety in drawings of primary school children

This bachelor thesis deals with the extent of using drawing techniques as indicative screening method for detecting increased level of anxiety and anxiousness of primary school children. The basic terminology such as anxiousness, anxiety and fear are defined in the theoretical part. The thesis focuses on the issue of anxiety and anxiousness of children attending primary schools as well as on using children's drawings as a diagnostic tool with an orientation on human body drawing. Signs of anxiety are described from different point of view of several authors in the last chapter. These signs will be further examined in the practical part. A scale for measuring degree of anxiety and anxiousness was used in the practical part. This scale served as a tool for dividing respondents into three groups. The aim of the survey was to find out the differences in human body drawing tests among respondents of different degrees of anxiety. The groups were compared in these human body drawing tests according to specific defined signs of anxiety. The results of the thesis could support measurability of anxiety signs and usage of drawing techniques in the area of children psychodiagnosis.
The role of the book in evolution of the children's imagination

The master thesis deals with the importance of the book in evolution of the children's imagination. The first part includes short introduction to problems of children's imagination. The second part is engaged in ontogeny of child from prenatal period to the middle childhood and in progress of key competences. It analyzes selected psychological approaches, which had the imagination as a subject of the research. The thesis explains and defines basic terms and processes of the imagination. It deals with a specific phenomenon of the children's imagination and with the evolution of the imagination. The third part introduces typical children's literature, directs on the traditional fairytale and it specifies problems of the literary characters too. It describes the historical development of the Czech book illustration, importance of the illustration in books for children and it also describes children's drawings. The fourth part applies all of previous pieces of knowledges into the work experience in kindergarten. It also describes relations between child and school or child and book. The final part of the master thesis includes summary of the information. [Author's abstract].
