Of activists and people: A discourse analysis of selected cases of political activism in the Czech context
Kňapová, Kateřina ; Císař, Ondřej (advisor) ; Slačálek, Ondřej (referee)
The thesis deals with media representation of protests in the Czech media. They are anti-communist protests, student, "anti - austerity", anti-Roma and anti-racist or antifascist. The author has used critical discourse analysis on a sample of media texts from 1/2008 to 7/2014 period. It focused on analyzing the labeling of protesters, representing the relationship between the protests and democracy and the protesters and society or "ordinary people". The author concludes that labeling the protesters as well as representation of the relationship between protest and democracy in the reference sample strongly reflects the overall concept of the Czech post-communist identity as the one that emphasizes moderation, but also individualism or rather minimalist definition of politics as limited to the party or parliamentary politics. As congruent are usually presented anticommunist protests and student protests, on the other hand suspicious or problamatic are framed union protests or "radical" or "extrem" protests.

Social inequality as a threat - Securitization with reference to Šluknovsko events Bc. Nelly Dederová Master's thesis Social inequality as a threat - Securitization with reference to Šluknovsko events deals with construction of so called "problem" of Šluknov region in connection to Šluknovsko events (two physical clashes in towns Nový Bor and Rumburk which happened in August 2011 and following series of protests, demonstrations and rallies which were lingering in Šluknov region towns until 2012), using theory of securitization made by Barry Buzan, Ole Wæver and Jaap de Wilde, who are representatives of Copenhagen school of security studies. The fact that participants of political and security discourse were referring to Šluknovsko events using securitization language (marking specific referent object as endangered, proposing exceptional measures and demanding their legitimized adoption) represents author's underlying premise.
Phenomenon of Strik: Analysis of the Dynamics of Industrial Conflicts in Contemporary France
Sabová, Katarína ; Perottino, Michel (advisor) ; Matějka, Ondřej (referee)
This thesis aims to outline the different dynamics of strike activity and thus understand the basic principles of industrial conflicts in France in the 90s of the 20th century and the first decade of the 21st century. To study this problem we decided to use a dual approach. A quantitative one, which helped us to critically evaluate the statistical resources of the Ministry of Labour and to made first assumptions about decline of strike activity in France. We used as well qualitative approach in order to understand the use of strikes in various conflict situations. We tried, based on several practical examples of protests, to identify the factors and mechanisms explaining the constraints that may prevent representatives of trade unions use strikes as mobilization agents. Last but not least, our study is realized in the context of the ongoing debate in the French academic environment regarding the conversion of the repertoire of collective action. Unlike works that try to apprehend this transformation giving emphasis on the "new" forms of protest, our goal was to answer questions leading to an understanding of the conditions of continuation of the strike as a traditional way of collective struggle.
Criminal order
Berková, Ivona ; Říha, Jiří (advisor) ; Vokoun, Rudolf (referee)
The criminal warrant represents a specific form of decision in criminal matters and a type of simplified procedure as well. A single judge can issue a criminal warrant without trying the matter in the main trial if the facts are substantiated by reliable evidence. The criminal warrant has the nature of a convicting judgment. This type of simplified procedure is enacted under provisions § 314e to § 314g of the Code of Criminal Procedure. The criminal warrant is used in practice very often for its fastness and economy. In 2012, single judges by means of a criminal warrant, decided on 54,64 % of criminal cases (accused) before the District Courts within the whole area of the Czech Republic. The purpose of the thesis is to analyse the criminal warrant in all its aspects. The thesis is composed of nine chapters. Chapter One describes the history of the criminal warrant from 1918. Chapter Two focuses on relations between the criminal warrant and the basic principles of criminal procedure. Chapter Three describes the criminal warrant as a specific form of decision in criminal matters, procedure and conditions for issuing a criminal warrant, the penalties that can be imposed by means of a criminal warrant and the position of a victim. Chapter Four concentrates on the criminal warrant as a special method of...
Freedom of assembly in the Czech Republic
Voršilka, Marek ; Hofmannová, Helena (advisor) ; Suchánek, Radovan (referee)
The thesis addresses the legal regulation of the freedom of assembly in the Czech Republic, aiming to analyse the current version of the Assembly Act, point out certain problematic aspects and suggest improvements de lege ferenda, critically assess the relevant case law and provide a comparison with legal regulations in some other countries. Part Two analyses the meaning of the freedom of assembly and the term "assembly", summarising and assessing different opinions on what constitutes an assembly. It addresses the constitutional principle that no permission may be required for organising public assemblies and its implication for so called "accesory activities" during assemblies. Part Three examines the requirement to notify the council about planned assemblies. The time requirement prescribed by the Czech law is compared to the requirements in 30 other - mostly European - countries. The formal requirements of the notifications are analysed in detail. Part Four concerns the power of the council to prohibit an assembly in advance. A considerable part is devoted to the critical evaluation of the case law regarding prohibition of assemblies and the issue of large-scale false notifications, where both constitutionally conform interpretation and amendments of the law are suggested. Conditions under which the...
