Impact of German direct Investment on Czech-German Cooperation

The bachelor thesis is devoted to a topic of German direct investment and their impact on Czech-German cooperation. The thesis classifies foreign direct investment, investment incentives, location factors and their effects on domestic enterprises and host country. The thesis further deals with the inward flow of German investment and examines the role of German direct investment in the Czech Republic. Finally, based on personal consultations and questionnaire, the thesis evaluates the impact of Ger-man direct investment on the Czech market.
Adult Civic Education in Germany. The case study: The Saxon State Agency for Civic Education

Germany draws on a unique net of state-founded institutions operating in the adult civic education field established after the Second World War to promote democratic values in the society. These Agencies for Civic Education work at state and federal level and are non-partisan. This thesis seeks to grasp the phenomenon of universal adult civic education in Germany, while focusing on The Saxon State Agency for Civic Education; on how is it organized, and whether and how its activities proved beneficial in the context of the current socio-political situation. The first part will elaborate on historic, conceptual and institutional background of adult civic education in Germany. The second part, a case study, will focus on the current socio-political situation in Saxony, and the reaction of The Saxon State Agency for Civic Education to the challenges arising especially from the current migration crisis. The thesis will be based on the information from electronic and printed sources primarily in German; some of them provided by the Saxon State Agency. The complementary source will be an interview, which was conducted with two representatives of the Agency.
Housing Policy in the Federal Republic of Germany and Czechoslovakia in 1948/9-1960

The thesis analyses housing policy in the Federal Republic of Germany and Czechoslovakia in 1948/9-1960. The aim of the thesis is to verify the assumption, that whereas housing policy of the FRG can be considered as rather successful, that of Czechoslovakia was rather unsuccessful. In addition to that, the thesis aims at interpreting the success/failure with respect to 1) the factual political steps of the two regimes, 2) the level of economic development and demographic trends, 3) the traditions of housing policies before 1948/9 and 4) the situation in housing sector immediately after WWII. The successfulness of housing policy is derived from its results in realm of dwelling construction, financial affordability and quality of housing. The methodological section contains a theoretical classification of the two political and social systems and a definition of housing policy and criteria of the comparison. Following two chapters analyse housing policy traditions before 1948/9 and housing policy of the two states in 1948/9-1960. In the latter case, before anything else, the chapter introduces the institutional framework, main actors and the most important legislation. Far-right Subculture in the Free State of Saxony

Předložená diplomová práce se zabývá subkulturou krajní pravice ve Svobodném státě - pojednáno v multidisciplinárním kontextu, práce vysvětluje důvod také využívá politologické roviny, vymezuje pojem pravicového extremismu a ukazuje jeho rávní úrovni je rozvedena reakce státu ve formě legislativních a represivních opatření. V kontextu občanského vzdělávání jsou prezentovány instituce a aktéři, kteří v Sasku na tomto poli působí s cílem eliminovat pravicový extremismus ve společnosti. Text rovněž definuje, jak velké nebezpečí subkultura ve společnosti představuje. Vláda se snaží s pravicovým extremismem vypořádat, i když se žádná politická strana nedostává přímo do parlamentu. Jde především o hrozbu společenskou spočívající v páchání trestné činnosti, schopnosti mobilizace a tvoření chybných ideologických přesvědčení. Stát chce primárně svoje občany chránit před kriminální činností, vzdělávat je a rozvíjet demokratické uvědomění, přičemž systém občanského vzdělávání Spolkové republiky Německo je celosvětově považován za vzor, jelikož se obor po druhé světové válce stal díky specifickému vnímání pravicového extremismu součástí německé identity
The public administration in the Free State of Bavaria and the heritage conservation

The objective of the bachelor's thesis is to present the system of heritage conservation in the Federal Republic of Germany as an example of public sector organization. The field of cultural and heritage conservation is under the exclusive competence of the individual federal states, hence the main focus of the thesis at this level of competence. The subject of interest is the Free State of Bavaria. The thesis focuses on the Bavarian legislation, authorities and institutions responsible for heritage conservation and the funding options for the preservation of monuments. The thesis also presents the societies supporting the heritage conservation on the federal level.
Czech-German cooperation in the Euroregion Neisse-Nisa-Nysa shown on the example of the Regional Research Library in Liberec

The presented thesis deals with the theme of Czech-German cooperatin of the chosen institution, The Regional Scientific Library in Liberec, which is located in the Euroregion Neisse - Nisa - Nysa associating region of the Czech Republic, Germany and Poland. The first part introduces the Euroregion Neisse-Nisa-Nysa as an instrument for the realization of cross- border cooperation, thus the purpose for its establishment, historical context, function, aims and Euro-regional expert group - The Libraries, whose members include euroregional libraries. Libraries cooperate on international projects and thus fulfil aims of the Euroregion, which in turn helps to implement projects financially, thanks to the possibility of drawing funds from European Union funds. Besides this Euro-regional cooperation has the library established other partnerships that are not roofed by the Euroregion. Czech-German projects and activities of the library are analyzed in this work. For this purpose has been made survey of such activities from 2000 till 2014, which closely reflects the most fruitful period in the Czech-German cooperation of the library. The development of Czech-German cooperation in pre-schools: the road to its origins, the current situation and possible future

The proposed thesis 'The development of Czech-German cooperation in pre-schools: the road to its origins, the current situation and possible future' focuses primarily on the preschool education and its connection with the Czech-German cooperation. Initially, the goal is to briefly present the common Czech-German history and the key events that resulted in the cooperation between both countries. After a brief sidestep into history author introduces preschool education in Europe to achieve a better understanding of the context of this thesis. Education, especially the preschool one, is gaining importance and is currently a debated topic on multinational levels. This chapter should explain the importance of pre-school education for the mutual Czech-German cooperation. Within this chapter author will also introduce and compare the educational systems of both participating countries. The last and most extensive chapter introduces the activities of the Czech-German Youth Exchange Coordination Centre Tandem in detail and the insight into its activities form the main goal of this thesis.
Adult Civic Education in Germany and its Specifics in the New Federal States

This diploma thesis examines the system of adult civic education in Germany and its specifics in the new federal states. At first, the author introduces the concept of adult civic education (from the German term politische Bildung), describes the evolution of civic education over time and explains what the goals of modern civic education are and how these differ to indoctrination or propaganda. Later this paper focuses directly on the Federal Republic of Germany, starting by explaining the unique historic experience behind German civic education and its development over time. The author then defines the up-to-date face of affairs, while particularly focusing on the public organisations which represent the universal concept of civic education: the Federal Agency for Civic Education and the State Agencies. An overview of the recent threats and challenges to civic education follows. The next part of this thesis focuses on the new federal states. It outlines the basic context of the former German Democratic Republic, then it studies, how civic education reacted after the reunification of 1990 on the organisational level and in terms of the goals, contents and forms. The Third Pillar of Foreign Policy? West German Foreign Cultural Policy in the 1960s and 1970s

This doctoral thesis deals with fundamental changes in West German foreign cultural policy during the 1960s and 1970s. Its objective is not only to examine how and under what circumstances the first (West) German conception of foreign cultural policy was conceived or which institutions and individuals participated most actively in its formation, but also to assess the understanding and definitions of foreign cultural policy and its role in the overall foreign policy of the Federal Republic of Germany. Further, the topic is analysed within a broad historical and international context. The research primarily uses the methodology of political history but has also been inspired by cultural history and political science.
The radicalization of East German youth - the case of Nationalsozialistischer Untergrund

The exposure of the terrorist organisation Nationalsozialistischer Untergrund (National Socialist Underground, NSU) in November 2011 exposed the still topical problem that is the right-wing scene in contemporary Germany. The Nationalsozialistischer Untergrund consisted of three young people: Beate Zschäpe, Uwe Mundlos and Uwe Böhnhardt. The group managed to stay hidden for over ten years without being discovered by the police or the authorities during which time its members committed at least ten murders, fifteen robberies and two bomb attacks. Its discovery reopened the issue of how the Federal Republic of Germany has been dealing with both its Nazi-past and its current right-wing scene. This thesis focuses on the radicalization of East German youth in the 1990s and presents this trend using the aforementioned group as an example. Firstly, right-wing extremism is characterized and this part is followed by the description of the specifics of right-wing extremism in GDR and the new federal states (Bundesländer). The thesis then describes the lives of the three members before the formation of the group, the operation of the group while hidden as well as the crimes linked to the group.
