The space of the city: Turnov at the time and the space
Stuchlík, Jaroslav ; Matějů, Martin (referee) ; Czumalo, Vladimír (advisor)
The subject matter of the thesis is defined as a cultural analysis of urban planning in a specific, lesser-size town - the town of Turnov. In its first part, the text focuses on the historical circumstances of the town2s origins. It concentrates on the most important periods from the point of view of the present day layout of the town2s centre: the early Middle Ages - a period of town building; the late Renaissance period and the emerging Baroque era; the 19th century; and finally, the text recapitulates 20th century developments. The text analyses the natural and geographic conditions at a location where a new town was being formed; it follows the specific process of settlement centralization, transformation in building technologies and onset of masonry buildings, the impact of repeated disastrous fires on the town square2s appearance, not leaving out the social and political context. We briefly introduce the present day layout of the town2s centre. The following section continues on with a specific demonstration of a clearly defined - and throughout time, a remarkably stable - three-dimensional spatial structure of the town2s centre. Subsequently, we analyze the effect of this structure on the specific layout of the town square from the architectural, transportation and sociocultural point of view. In the...

Yoga - Antistress System
Lošťák, Jiří ; Potměšil, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Čichoň, Rostislav (referee)
Name of the thesis: Yoga-anti stress system Goals of the thesis: Today's hasty time brings lots of negative impact on humans. People are always busy having no time for themselves especially for their body and mind. The goal of this thesis is to prove a positive impact of yoga exercise on human body and mind. Other impact involves stress elimination. By the help of this thesis I would like to demonstrate that an everyday yoga implementation can lead to a total anti stress and relaxing way oflife without any stress response. Methods: The thesis is based on a specific yoga exercise targeted at body and mind stress elimination. This exercise was done by pre-determined groups of di:fferent-age yoga gymnasts (either beginners or intermediate ones). The beginners were examined with the help of interviews, observation or questionnaires in a given time span (6 months). At the beginning of the research a form was filled in with appropriate data and after six months the process was replayed. Afterwards, on grounds of given data proper changes in questionnaire points have been analysed. Other interviewees undergoing the research comprised yoga non-practising individuals, intermediate yoga gymnasts and advanced individuals. The research of these groups was based on a comparison method (condition before the...

Germicidal effects of corona discharge on microorganisms
Dymáčková, Laura ; Kříha, Vítězslav (advisor) ; Julák, Jaroslav (referee)
This thesis following up the studies about decontamination effects of low-temperature plasma generated by corona discharge. Two species of bacteria, Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus epidermidis, were exposed in two separate sets of experiments. Bacterial suspensions were treated by point-to-plane corona discharge directly on surface of semisolid culture medium, the Mueller-Hinton agar, placed in Petri Dishes of 5 cm diameter. The point electrode was realized by the tip of a 0.7 mm syringe needle, connected to the source of direct current high voltage. The plane electrode was formed by the surface of an ion-conducting semisolid cultivation medium. A micrometer screw allowed precise setting the 4 mm distance of the point electrode from the anode surface. The samples were exposed to the corona discharge with current of 25μA - 150μA range. The treatment duration is given by constant exposed charge (18, 27, 36 and 54 mC) condition. After exposition, all Petri dishes were immediately cultivated at 37 žC overnight. After cultivation followed evaluation of inhibition zone areas, that was caused by action of electric charge. The state of the cultures was quantitatively assessed by measuring of the growth inhibition zones, where a complete growth inhibition took place. The behaviors of these exposures were...

Financial analysis of T-Mobile Czech Republic a.s.
Čižmáriková, Jitka ; Chylíková, Hana (advisor) ; Drozen, František (referee)
The purpose of this diploma theses is to demonstrate the comprehensive view on the "financial health" of T-Mobile Czech Republic a.s. through the financial analysis process between year 2003 and 2007 from the position of the external user. The theoretic part of this theses is focused on the brief history, definition and principle of the financial analysis, then on users of the financial analysis and information sources for its realization including the pointing out the limitation of predicative abilities of the accounting data. Understanding of the traditional but also new methods, which are applied within the financial analysis (including the methods of intercompany comparison), is another part of the theoretic definition of the financial analysis. The practical part of the theses deals with the characteristics of T-Mobile company and with processing of the strategic analysis, which put us closer to the outside and inside surroundings of the analysed firm. It is followed by processing of the financial analysis of T-Mobile company (including comparison with its competitors), comments and evaluation of findings and results (including their comparison, where it is possible, with standard (recommended) values or with the "branch average values") and by pointing out strenghts and weaknesses of operations of the analysed company.

Pathophysiology of brain trauma.
Chovančík, Josef ; Kudláčková, Zděnka (advisor) ; Herink, Josef (referee)
Author: Josef Chovančík Title of diploma thesis: Trauma and pathophysiological of brain damage Form: Master Thesis Name of University: Charles University in Prague Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradec Králové Department of Biological and Medical Sciences Field: Pharmacy Background: Work in the first part describes the construction of the nervous and vascular system at key points which relate to the topic. Focuses on basic functional principles of both systems, which together are both anatomically and functionally linked. In its special section then discusses his own brain injury. Includes incidence, causes and mechanisms of its formation, classify its severity. Describes the pathophysiological processes in the brain injury that are the focus of today's scientific research. Findings and conclusion: Based on the work of our search, we concluded that the pathophysiological picture of cerebral tissue damage involves many, mutually interlocking mechanisms. We found that the toxic effect of excitatory amino acids leads to a massive increase in intracellular calcium concentration. The resulting stepped-pathological activation of many enzymes and inhibition of mitochondrial function. Damage to nerve cells is also caused by free radicals that cause damage to cell membranes, proteins and molecular genetic...

Reconstructive operations in spine region with bio-ceramic materials use
Lukáš, Richard ; Karpaš, Karel (advisor) ; Štulík, Jan (referee) ; Chaloupka, Richard (referee) ; Rudinský, Bruno (referee)
1. SUMMARY Introduction: During the period of the last 25 years remarkable changes occurred in the treatment of traumas of thoracolumbar spine. The surgical treatment was extended in cases where instability and impairment of its physiological shape are expected. This development is based on the progress in imaging technologies, more detailed understanding of spine biomechanics and a pathophysiology of its impairment. The situation was also influenced by the progression in surgical instruments and implants and also in the technology of bone substitutes. Aim of the study: The aim of the study is to analyze the long term morphological and clinical results after the surgical treatment of thoracolumbar fractures, in which the bioactive glass-ceramics in the form of granules was used as a bone substitute. Material and method: A series of 140 patients treated surgically for unstable thoracolumbar fracture (LSC points 4 - 6) during the period from 1997 to 2003 was studied. The average age of patients was 44 years (14 - 78). The patient collection consists of 83 males in the average age of 43,7 years (14-73) and 57 females in the average age of 44.9 years (15-78). The minimum follow-up was 24 months, the average follow-up period was 29 months. Patient series includes a group of 91 cases, in which the implant was...

The Picture of France in České slovo in the year 1938 in Confrontation with the French Right-wing Press

Gene Therapy and the Evolution of Cancer Treatment
Douglas, James Joshua ; Černá, Marie (advisor)
The continued understanding of gene structure, function and how its product interacts in the human body has lead to new wave of ideas on cancer therapy. Gene therapy, which 20 years ago was just a dream is now a very real possibility and alternative to the conventional treatments. Three new methods of utilizing alternative gene structure and manipulating the body's response to induce a tumor effect are presented here. Immunotherapy is the induction of the human immune system against an unwanted antigen. Viral oncolysis is the utilization and manipulation of natural human pathogens against tumor cells. Gene transfer is the addition of deletion of vital genes responsible for cell growth and apoptosis.
