The history, present and future of school libraries in the United States of America and their impact on students' academic achievement

Rigorózní práce se zabývá historií školních knihoven v USA, nejdůležitějšími aspekty jejich současného fungování a naznačením trendů, které budou v budoucnosti pro jejich postavení a rozvoj určující. V práci jsou analyzovány základní statistické údaje, které se vážou k problematice školních knihoven v USA. Těžištěm práce je rozbor všech základních oblastí školního knihovnictví. Jde o financování, programy školních knihoven, jejich personální zajištění, architekturu a prostorové vybavení, nové technologie a jejich dopad na činnost školních knihoven, jejich akviziční politiku. V jednotlivých kapitolách porovnávám statistické ukazatele s "ideálním" stavem, který je pro činnost školních knihoven doporučován příslušnými institucemi, které mají tuto problematiku ve své gesci. Obsáhlá kapitola je věnována výsledkům odborných studií, které se věnují jednotlivým parametrům a faktorům v činnosti školních knihoven a jejich dopadům na akademické výsledky jejich uživatelů - žáků či studentů. Závěr práce je věnován výhledu do budoucnosti, základním problémům, trendům a výzvám, se kterými budou školní knihovny v USA konfrontovány.

John Polkinghorne - his contribution to the dialogue of science and theology

ANGLICKÁ ANOTACE JOHN POLKINGHORNE - HIS CONTRIBUTION TO DIALOGUE OF SCIENCE AND THEOLOGY In this thesis we discuss the biography, the career and scientific and theological work of one of the main characters in dialogue of science and theology. We have tried to assign his theories and opinions to certain theological disciplines, although his work is mainly apologetic in its nature. We assess his role in the dialogue and set him in a wider context of other "similar" theologians and Church documents. Finally we formulate an outlook of the future developments of this particular field characterized by use of natural (scientific) theology. Keywords: John C. Development and maintenance of addictive behaviour in terms of psychoanalysis

In the area of addictive behaviour, psychoanalytic approaches are very often criticized or completely neglected. Nevertheless they could significantly contribute to the treatment of addictions, especially in its final stage. Their main contribution is in searching for origins and causes of the addiction. In the therapy they could help to reveal inner conflicts and traumas, and to facilitate their understanding and acceptance. The main aim of my thesis is to illustrate the contribution of psychoanalytic approaches in the treatment of addiction. Furthermore an effort is made to point out, that if the psychotherapy is enriched by psychoanalysis, and further criteria are fulfilled, the treatment can acquire a deeper meaning, and the probability of its efficiency increases. The thesis is divided into theoretical and empirical part. The theoretical part presents an overview of psychoanalytical theories of the origin and development of addiction. It describes some features of the addicted people from the psychoanalytical point of view and the part is completed by necessary critical evaluation. Czech language islands in Ukraine

Cílem bakalářské práce je prezentovat problematiku českého osídlení na Ukrajině. Výběr tématu není náhodný, neboť sám pocházím z krajanské rodiny. Z širokého spektra otázek jsem se soustředil na historii vzniku krajanské komunity na Ukrajině, na její rozvoj a současný stav. Práce je rozdělena do čtyř kapitol. První kapitola uvádí všeobecné důvody českého vystěhovalectví v druhé polovině 19. století. Druhá kapitola prezentuje české osídlení na Ukrajině. Popisuje postup přestěhování a historii osídlení území nové vlasti a založení některých českých obcí. Obsahem třetí kapitoly je popis životního stylu českých přestěhovalců, jejich tradic a zvýků. V několika částech této kapitoly se prezentuje také otázka školství, reemigrace krajanů do jejich historické vlasti a charakteristika současné situace v krajanských komunitách na Ukrajině, především však na Krymu. Čtvrtá kapitola je věnována jazykové charakteristice české komunity na Ukrajině. Při shromažďování studijního materiálu jsem vycházel z několika odborných prací věnovaných této problematice, z menších studií v různých vědeckých sbornících, z novinových článků a z vlastních materiálů týkajících se života české krajanské komunity na Krymu. The image of a star in the tabloid press

Media are the basic element of modern pop-culture . They interact people's opinions. The subject of this thesis is the actual perspective of medial comunication, concretely the creating of stars in czech tabloids. With regards to a big number of copies of czech tabloids, it is important to put mind to this part of journalism. In the initial part is defined the star as a famous person in the economical, sociological or psychological view. The reasons of adoration od stars are here mentioned. Second part is the product of investigation of medial texts about stars. These texts are analysed from parol and non-parol point of view. The cognitive analysis of whe word sex-bomb is also included. The images of two concrete czech stars in tabloids were monitored in the period of 2008-2009. This analysis construct the practical part of this thesis. The thesis also includes an interview with an editor of internet tabloid journal.

The telephone crisis intervention and its importance due to difficult life fituations solving

Graduation theses is composed as a theoretical paper and is divided into six chapters. First chapter is focused on concept of crisis. Beside the explication of the concept of crisis, it also describes types of crises according to Baldwin. Posibilities of help in crisis are mentioned at the end of the first chapter. Second chapter is concerned with crisis intervention and it begins with its brief history. It also describes its forms, principals and phases. Third chapter defines and analyses telephonical crisis intervention. As in the previous chapter, it also begins with both czech and world history of telephonical crisis intervention. Other paragraphs describe its advantages and disadvantages. Following paragraphs outline stages of telephonical crisis intervention and a dealing with emotions at helpline. Fourth chapter presents the personality of the telephonical crisis intervention worker and it also mentions problem of burnout. Fifth chapter contains the most common topics of helpline callings. Last, sixth chapter, is focused on analysis of real practical case.

Determinants of wages

The thesis shows how human capital is an important part of wage and how other characteristics (individual or corporate) affect wage level. First of all, the theory of human capital and investments in specific or general training are described and it is shown how these investments affect the income distribution during life. The main part of human capital is education so the thesis presents some methods how to measure the return on investment in education (full method or Mincerian equation). Gender pay gap is still an issue. Part of the difference in earnings between men and women can be explained by different characteristics but the other part originates in discrimination or sectoral segregation. The thesis provides decomposition of gender pay gap into three components with different cause of origin - the effect of equipment, effect of discrimination and effect of choice. After theoretical part, there is an analysis of data from the Czech Statistical Office containing values of average wages, median wages and gender pay gap. These values are analyzed in accordance to factors mentioned in theoretical part along with the question, if these factors affect wages according to assumptions.
