Different ways of usage of "directed" and "undirected" seriality shown on an example of spectator consumption of soap opera Ulice
Kvasničková, Eva ; Reifová, Irena (advisor) ; Bednařík, Petr (referee)
The thesis called "Different ways of usage of "directed" and "undirected" seriality shown on an example of spectator consumption of soap opera Ulice" is composed of two main sections. In the first one the theoretical pieces of information about seriality and serial narratives are summarized. Foremost the focus is directed to the two dominant types - series and serial- not only in the perspective of narrative theory but also within the frame of English written literature about serial narratives. The thesis also deals with the genre called soap opera, with its history and some of the current hybrid genres. The soap opera viewers are characterized, as well as their relationship with the characters. Also the concept of "directed" and "undirected" seriality is introduced. It could be explained that within the "directed" seriality the external distributor of narrativity exist while in the case of "undirected" seriality it is the viewer himself who is in charge of managing seriality. In the practical part of this thesis the qualitative anylysis and grounded theory are used to examine two groups of spectators of a popular Czech soap opera Ulice (The Street) - first group consists of television viewers (who use the "directed" seriality) and the second group is composed of internet viewers (who use the "undirected"...

Calcium homeostasis and modulation of nociceptive synaptic transmission
Sojka, David
This study was designed to improve our knowledge regarding mechanisms of nociceptive signaling at spinal cord level. One of the forms of spinal cord synaptic transmission modulation is central sensitization, a manifestation of synaptic plasticity at spinal cord level, which was found to be present at many chronic pain syndromes. This study deals mainly with a development of calcium imaging technique with a final goal to study mechanisms of central sensitization in vitro on population of dorsal horn neurons. We have analyzed synaptically evoked intracellular Ca changes as a result of dorsal root stimulation in a superficial dorsal horn area in spinal cord slices and found two types of Ca responses: one synchronized with electrical stimulation and a second one, delayed response due to Ca release from internal stores. The delayed Ca release was not previously shown to be present in these neurons and it was not dependent on activation of ionotropic glutamatergic receptors, suggesting involvement of metabotropic receptor pathway. The presence of this delayed type of Ca response could have a significant role in the induction of some types of chronic pain syndromes, since intracellular calcium increase is thought to be a key trigger point in spinal cord neurons sensitization. An important role in neuronal calcium...

The Concept of Media in the System Theory of Niklas Luhmann
Pincová, Barbora ; Mucha, Ivan (advisor) ; Šubrt, Jiří (referee)
This thesis deals with the concept of media by Niklas Luhmann which he developed as a key perspective for his theory of modern society. After the introduction, which is making clear the starting points of the system theory and the theory of society, follows a clear explanation - with a help of primary literature (especially Die Gesellschaft der Gesellschaft, Die Kunst der Gesellschaft, Die Realität der Massenmedien) - of Luhman's concept of media. The explanation goes from general distinction between media and the form to different types of media followed by massmedial communication. Selected contributions of contemporary theorists (Baecker, Esposito, Krämer) are integral part of the work. They give reflection and they further develop the topic of communication mediated by computer, which has been previously outlined by Luhman. In the end, the terms and the problems of computer communication are shown on current events on the Internet (Wikipedia, Facebook).

Model V1 s realistickou distribucí funkčních typů neuronů v rámci kortikálních vrstev
Moudřík, Josef ; Sýkora, Ondřej (referee) ; Brom, Cyril (advisor)
There have been identified two functionally different neuron classes in the primary visual cortex (V1), so-called simple and complex cells. These cells differ in reactions to various stimuli and their development has been successfully simulated in one computational model of V1. This model, however, simulates both classes in separate layers corresponding to layers 4C and 2/3 in V1. On the contrary, experiments have shown that both categories are - in different proportions - present in both layers. In this thesis, a computational model with a realistic distribution of complex and simple cells is presented. To increase its authenticity, I incorporate long-range excitatory and short-range inhibitory lateral cortical connections as found in animals, overcoming one drawback of previous models that used long-range inhibition. To assess my model, two measures of orientation selectivity - circular variance and orientation bandwidth - were computed for each simulated neuron. Using this measures, I compared my model with data from macaque monkey. In line with biological findings, my model develops a wide diversity of orientation selectivity. Moreover, it develops maps of orientation preference and realistic receptive fields.

Sacred Objects in Arts and Crafts of Rudolf II. Types and Iconography
Slanina, Ondřej ; Nespěšná Hamsíková, Magdaléna (advisor) ; Dvorský, Jiří (referee)
When Emperor Rudolf II. moved to Prague with his court, city became one of the most important centers in Europe. The cultural aspirations of the new Emperor led to organizing a large collection with the great things from categories artificialia, naturalia, scientifica and to invitation of extraordinary craftsmen from the whole Europe. Masters of art and crafts were also invited on special decrees. Masters of art and crafts made very specific types in sacred way. Firstly there were small home altars with original commessi made by family of Castrucci and Miseroni in combination with other materials and cooperation with the other craftsmen. Further there were portrait medals by family of Abondio, gems - first of all by Ottavio Miseroni and Alessandro Masnago with assemblys by Jan Vermeyen and Andreas Osenbruck, commessi di pietre dure with sacred themes in fantastic and real landscapes by Castrucci family, plaquettes by Paulus von Vianen, statues by Ottavio Miseroni, chalices, crucifixes and monstrances. There were also very important handstones (handstein) with the sculpture solution of origin material with sacred themes. Further Emperor very appreciated original mosaics from various kinds of exotic birds with sacred themes from Mexico. This type of work has iris effect. There were also very important...

Comparison czech ODS and german CDU
Soukupová, Zuzana ; Havlík, Radomír (referee) ; Stracený, Josef (advisor)
The topic of my diploma thesis involves comparison between the largest Czech right-wing political party, the Civic Democratic Party (ODS), and the largest German conservative general political party, the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) which, together with the Christian Social Union (CSU) comprises a faction (CDU/CSU) at the federal level. The major objective of the thesis is an analysis of development and programmatics of both political parties and subsequent comparison thereof, I.e. identification of any common, similar and different characteristic features. The thesis is divided into four chapters. Chapter One deals with the theory of political parties, more strictly with the very concept of political party and its formation, its definitions, how it is divided, what roles it plays and what types of political parties there exist. Chapter Two is devoted to the Civic Democratic Party. I describe its formation, subsequent development and, finally, its programmatics. The individual objectives or principles are clearly shown on specific items of the political programme of 1995 and the current election programme "Jointly for Beller Life" of 2006. Chapter three identically describes the formation, development and programmatics of the Christian Democratic Union. I point out important programme aspects by...

Playing in Heterogeneous Classes - Comparative Study on Kindergartens of Common versus Waldorf Type
Nováková, Pavlína ; Koťátková, Soňa (advisor) ; Havlová, Jana (referee)
The topic of this work is "Playing in Heterogeneous Classes - Comparative Study on Kindergartens of Common versus Waldorf Type". The theoretical part deals with the definition of the pre-school aged children's need of playing, the development of playing, the need of a playing partner and the function of toys. Then it focuses on playing in the General Educational Plan for Pre-School Education, playing integration into the daily routine of a kindergarten and benefit of playing for a child and a teacher. It describes the specific features of a heterogeneous group of children and their relationship to playing. It also discusses the characteristics of a Waldorf kindergarten. In the end of the part the School Educational Plan of the studied schools is shown. The practical part of this work is based on monitoring children during their free playing time in the chosen kindergartens. The time daily devoted to free playing, the ways the teachers react to free playing and which types of playing are most common were the objectives of the research. The work then names toys recommended for a heterogeneous class by the teachers, toys chosen by children, how younger children are integrated into the older children's playing and vice versa. Then, by using a questionnaire, following data will be obtained from parents...

The importance of the system of EIA for the needs of spatial planning.
Březinová, Lucie ; Macháček, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Khorel, Tomáš (referee)
The diploma thesis consists of three parts. In the first part the problematics of the EIA process is explained and basic data and statitistics for the years 2003 to 2007 is mentioned with respect to the legislative changes in 2006 and 2007. The statistics include i.e. the total number of the projects assessed in individual years, number of the projects assessed by The Ministry of Environment of the Czech Republic and regional authorities. Furthermore there are quantified individual projects coming under individual regions, respecting the division into individual industrial branches. Part two deals with the problematics of landscape planning --definiton, tools, targets, legislation and authorities in charge with landscape planning. The last part of the thesis is devoted to the importance of the system of EIA for the needs of spatial planning. There are shown the benefits of EIA for landscape development. Moreover there is distinguishing of EIA for individual projects and for spatial conceptions.

Perception of political boundaries and their role in the division of geographical space: the Irish-British and Bohemian-German boundaries between 1750 and 1850
Power, Martina ; Klusáková, Luďa (referee)
Perception of political boundaries and their role in the division of geographical space: the Irish-British and Bohemian-German boundaries between 1750 and 1850 Abstract This thesis aims to assess changing perceptions of political boundaries and space as represented in German travel literature about Bohemia and British travelogues about Ireland between 1750 and 1850. Both countries had multi-ethnic and multicultural features, historically defined boundaries and were parts of more extensive political units. The perception of political belonging is examined especially in the context of integration tendencies coming from the state cores. The thesis also examines the importance of alternative types of boundaries, e.g. geographical boundaries (sea and mountains that were often described as "natural boundaries") and cultural boundaries. It is presumed that confessional, linguistic and ethnic boundaries, as well as boundaries between different types of landscape (mountains or lowland) and between poor and prosperous regions, will be of importance in Bohemia and Ireland. Although the presence of cultural boundaries could have a manifestation in the physical appearance of landscape, the construction of the cultural boundaries is considered to be a product of observers'/travellers' mind. Therefore the thesis analyses...
