Czech art around 1980 from the point of view of Cultural sociology
Ledvina, Josef ; Lahoda, Vojtěch (advisor) ; Wittlich, Petr (referee)
The subject of the presented thesis is the situation of Czech visual arts at the turn of the seventies and eighties of the twentieth century. Special attention is paid to the so-called "official art", art sanctioned by the state and Party, and its institutional basis the Czech Union of Visual Artists. On the basis of the analysis of renewed concept of Socialist Realism and hierarchy of genres presented at that time by official art criticism, destruction of the boundary separating the realm of arts from the realm of politics is argued as the main feature of the official definition of artistic production. In a sharp contrast to this official stand stood a radically different definition anchored in the tradition of modern art. According to it a true artist has to be consistently disrespectful of all external interference, be it political or economic. Through the notion of "field of cultural production" conceived by the French sociologist Pierre Bourdieu , this fundamental opposition of radically different definitions is viewed as a struggle between heteronomous and autonomous principles of hierarchisation. The autonomous position of artists excluded from the public artistic life by the process of "normalisation" ( the so-called Generation of the sixties) as well as a different though related position of...

Klevcova Pilařová, Julie ; Chlaňová, Tereza (referee) ; Ulbrechtová, Helena (advisor)
Moscow to the end of the Line by Venedikt Jerofejev is frequently mentioned among those literary works that are enumerated while pointing at issue of Russian postmodern literature formation. This novel has become the main topic of a whole number of literary papers that are being analyzed in the first, introductory, chapter of this thesis. Special attention is paid to those works that are dealing with the motifs of the Holy Fool and wandering in the novel. Part one also analyzes various peculiarities of Venedikt Jerofejev's biography and diary, which influenced the novel-writing. Although the novel, which is being analyzed by us, still carries some features of a traditional realistic discourse, it can be discussed from a postmodern point of view due to such features as its hypertextuality, «the death of the author», the usage of «the author's mask», a real language replacement by the «overlanguage» of simulating order, changes that take place in subject-object relationship etc, which are typical for the period when the novel appeared. Those aspects that are characteristic for primary understanding of postmodernism and for its «Eastern» modification are being discussed in the second part. In addition to this, this part analyzes the above mentioned postmodern features of Moscow to the End of the Line. It is...

USA and Soviet intervention to the Czechoslovakia
Lopuchovská, Kateřina ; Václavů, Lubor (advisor) ; Míšková, Alena (referee)
Since the turn of the 1967/1968 the american administration was carefully monitoring the democratic process in Czechslovakia. Despite rising interest it was clear from the start that Washington was unwilling to participate actively.Czechoslovakia was one of the main arms suppliers for the communist belligerants in the Vietnam conflict and for the ending Johnson administration the priority was a treaty with Soviet Union controlling the nuclear proliferation. Fist analysis about a Sovietic military intervention in Czechslovakia appear since may 1968. CIA was working with that possibility till july. Was it the political interest of peace between Washington and Moscow that hindered these analysis to be taken into account more seriously and to inform the highest representatives of the USA? Indeed, it could have caused a diplomatic quarrel and freeze the anti-nuclear proliferation treaty negociations. The decision of Moscow the 19.August 1968 of an armed intervention in Czechslovakia was a surprise for the president Johnson, but not a surprise for the CIA.

Political and Security Issues in the Relations of Russia and Ukraine
Hořínek, Oldřich ; Žídková, Markéta (advisor) ; Karásek, Tomáš (referee)
This thesis deals with Russian and Ukrainian foreign policy. The challenge is to analyse the attitude of Russia and Ukraine towards NATO and CIS and the role of both States in the shaping of other groupings in the post-Soviet space. Russia was claiming to get back its super power status and NATO enlargement considered as threat. On the other hand Ukraine was seeking security guaranties and partners to counterbalance the imperial ambitions of Russia. CIS and some other groupings in the region posed for Russia instruments of economic and political domination of post-Soviet space. On the other hand, Ukrainian attitude in relation to CIS integration under the Moscow's leadership was very restrained and vigilant. Kiev initiated other groupings independently from Moscow. In this work were preferred descriptive and empirical analytical techniques. There was used method of comparison more precisely double case study. Geopolitics was chosen as theoretical framework. The results of comparison help us to make a conclusion about the impact of Russian and Ukrainian policy in relation to NATO and CIS towards each other and post-Soviet space. There were found fundamental differences between Russian and Ukrainian attitude towards NATO and CIS or rather post-Soviet space. In these cases the differences resulted...
