Jewish Condition as Image of Marginalization
Pavlíková, Kristina ; Jamek, Václav (advisor) ; Voldřichová - Beránková, Eva (referee)
The theme of this bachelor thesis is the life and literary work of Jacques de Lacretelle, a French literature figure of the 20th century. Its aim is to expound his extensive work which is nowadays almost forgotten. The thesis focuses mainly on Lacretelle's vision of the Jews as described in his two novels- Silbermann and The return of Silbermann. Based on the detailed analysis the thesis tries to understand the reasons of choosing the Jewish motif for Lacretelle's work and personal connotations in it. Lacretelle's life and work is studied in comparison with a Czech author called Ladislav Fuks. We shortly introduce this writer, main events of his life connected with his literary work and his unique style of writing based on the method of substitute literary themes. This approach is subsequently applied on Lacretelle's writings and gives us a new point of view of them. Also we try to compare the series about Silbermann with Fuks's short-story anthology called Mí černovlasí bratři. At the end we draw a comparison between Lacretelle and Fuks and try to discover resemblances in their lives and works. This enables to understand their motives to choose the Jews as the main characters of their writings, probably connected mainly to their feeling of non-acceptance caused by their homosexuality. Hanusová, Martina ; Sánchez Fernández, Juan Antonio (advisor) ; Doležalová, Barbora (referee)
This thesis deals with the Morisco question in the work of Miguel de Cervantes. It situates the author in the historical and social context of 16th and the beginning of 17th century when Philip III of Spain had banished the Morisco community from Spanish Kingdom. It studies the influences which had impact on Cervantes' life and could be reflected in this issue. Also, all the mentions of Moors, Moriscos and Arabic culture are analized, all mentions in three pieces of Cervantes' work, the novel The Ingenious Gentleman Don Quixote of La Mancha, the drama Los Tratos de Argel and the pastoral novel Galatea. All the mentions are divided into the chapters according the positive, objective or negative meaning in relation to the Moriscos. The analyses of each chapter create the opinion of Miguel de Cervantes of the Morisco question. The thesis discovers that the impact of coexistence of Christian and Muslim culture in Spain, his life experience and the historical expulsion of Moriscos, are considerably reflected in author's literary work. Characters of Space in the Trilogy Trýznivé město by Daniela Hodrová
Macháčková, Klára ; Bílek, Petr (advisor) ; Wiendl, Jan (referee)
This bachelor thesis aims to interpret the trilogy Trýznivé město (subsuming parts called Podobojí, Kukly and Théta) by the Czech novelist and literary scholar Daniela Hodrová. A complex structure of the novel is in the analysis "opened" through the categories of space and characters; an axis of the thesis is the idea that in the poetics of D. Hodrová, some places can acquire certain features of living creatures (such as memory, free will, temper etc.) and vice versa, that some characters can coalesce with the space they inhabit. In spite of a firm mutual connection between the two categories, they will be discussed separately, in the following order: after having defined the background (using mainly theoretical works of D. Hodrová as secondary sources), firstly, we will focus on the localization of particular topoi (i.e. "literary loaded" places, e.g. the mountain, the pass, the abyss etc.) and on the description of their connotations in terms of the general sense of the trilogy; the attention will be also given to the non-topographical places (i.e. objects or parts of the body). Then, we will consider the issue of characters, primarily their ambivalent status between personalities, though fictional, and mere literary constructs performing certain functions, and also their transformations...

Lucía Jerez as a novel of Hispanoamerican Modernism
Hricsina Puškinová, Nina ; Poláková, Dora (advisor) ; Sánchez Fernández, Juan Antonio (referee)
(in English): This work focuses on the novel titled Lucía Jerez which represents the only novel written by Cuban author, heroe and so-called freedom fighter José Martí. The objective of this work was to prove that this short book rightly can be seen as a modernistic novel and even can be considered as the first one in which all of the modernistic tendencies of new aesthetics are present. Using specific examples from the original novel, I tried to show the importance of this book in the context of the history of Spanish-American literature and to demonstrate several elements of the modernistic creation. Firstly I had proceeded from my personal feelings and beliefs which I later completed by opinions of literary critics. In most cases we concided, but of course there were some points in which my view differed in comparision with a general assertion. Despite these discrepancies in the understanding of some aspects of the book, I think José Martí managed to create a unique work. Lucía Jerez contains everything that is according to theories of modernistic work and Martí also achieved to impress Hispanoamerican character to the book. Even though we can find traces of Romanticism, Lucía Jerez is inherently modernistic work because of its critical approach.
