The Phenomenon of Zombies in Films by George A. Romero
Čada Wernischová, Nelly ; Čeněk, David (advisor) ; Svatoňová, Kateřina (referee)
(in English) This work deals with the phenomenon of zombie in films by George A. Romero. Its objective is to prove that, although the characteristics of the phenomenon underwent significant change within individual films by this director, it still preserved the basic metaphoric function it had already at the time of its origination in Haiti in the 17th century. . The analytical part, in which three selected zombie horrors by George A. Romero (Dawn of the Dead, Land of the Dead and Diary of the Dead) are discussed, is based on the methods of neoformalist analysis. Based on the analysis of individual films, I have proved that the zombie phenomenon in Romero's films works, the same as it does in Haiti, as a metaphor of slavery with this metaphor being varied depending on the issues that become the current topic of each of the films whose actual aim is to criticise the contemporary society.

Myth in French classicist tragedy and in poetry and prose of symbolists
Loskot, Tomáš ; Listíková, Renáta (advisor) ; Ébert-Zeminová, Catherine (referee)
This thesis deals with how a myth is approached and treated by two different literary movements, namely the classicism and the symbolism. The main aim of this thesis is to compare the shift of meaning and function of the myth in its literary renditions. The works on which we will try to demonstrate these differences are Phèdre by Jean Racine as for the classical movement, and Thésée by André Gide as for the symbolist movement. The thesis poses questions regarding the purpose of these respective literary interpretations and centres around the hypothesis that the classical work focuses on inspiring terror and pity, while the myth as treated by the symbolists seems to serve rather as a dialogue with oneself. Moreover, symbolists perceive the myth's archetypal content to be more suitable in expressing the essential, in accordance with the philosophy of Arthur Schopenhauer, while the classical period is much more preoccupied with Antiquity and follows strictly the rules as established in Aristotle's Poetics. The theoretical part of the thesis concentrates on the definition and delimitation of the keywords, as well as describing the different kinds of myths. It also gives a brief outline of the respective literary movements. The analytical part deals with what the authors wanted to express through the...

Body as Key Topic in the Prose of Marek Sindelka
Bydžovská, Marie ; Píšová, Ina (advisor) ; Brožová, Věra (referee)
The bachelor's thesis deals with the literary work of the Czech contemporary author Marek Šindelka, specifically with his key prose works Chyba, Zůstaňte s námi, Mapa Anny and Únava materiálu. The analysis of these titles, based mainly on the literary-theoretical approaches of Daniela Hodrová, Blanka Činátlová and linguists George Lakoff and Mark Johnson, focuses on the way in which their central theme of body and physicality manifests itself at various levels of literary work. The aim of the bachelor's thesis is to verify with the appropriate literary tools whether the body and physicality are only a key topic connecting most of Šindelka's texts or whether it enters the deeper levels of the text, eg. as its compositional principle or as - the only valid - way of seeing the world. KEYWORDS Marek Šindelka, contemporary Czech literature, prose, body and physicality, theme, composition, metaphor

Metaphorical patterns in onomastics recognizable by pupils and students
Štěpánová, Pavla
This dissertation thesis deals with metaphorical patterns in a specific language material - names for partner (pet names) as recognizabled by pupils of age 14 to 16 and students of age 18 to 20. Names for partner, i. e. ways of mutual calling between a two people making a couple, were selected due to its strong metaphorical character. Their ambiguous affiliation with proper names, or common name enabled critical evaluation of structural and functional definition of proper names as well. Furthemore they enable to present a cognitive view on proper names especially based on emphasizing the conotative part of meaning and metaphorical nature of humans' thinking. The research was based on questionnaire divided into two parts and group and individual interviews with girls. The sufficient lexicological material gained due to the first part of questionnaire became a matter of metaphorical conceptualizations' analysis dealing with conceptualizations of partner (love). Thanks to the individual interviews the communication and pragmatic analysis of names for partner was performed. Second part of questionnaire and group interviews with girls enabled the detailed analysis of connotations and metaphorical perception of thirteen names intended for ladies.
The Encounters of Love and Nature in the Lyric Poetry of Eduard Mörike
Dvořáková, Tereza ; Broukalová, Jindra (advisor) ; Bučková, Tamara (referee)
This diploma thesis explores the lyrical poetry of Eduard Mörike (1804-1875), a German poet. The topic of the thesis is theencountering of nature and love in his works. This poet, less known in the Czech context, wrote various kinds of poems, which deserve attention. The thesis is divided in two parts, theoretical and interpretative. In the first part, the thesis focuses on giving an overall context (I deal with a historical context, literary epochs, during which Eduard Mörike wrote, his personality and general introduction in lyrical poetry). The second part of my thesis aims to interpret selected poems, which are divided bytheir themes: romantic love, the morning, wayfaring, the forest and the so-called "Dinggedichte," or poems focusing on understanding and appreciation of a single item. In each poem, a mood or feeling that characterizes the poem is described, who is the speaker within the poem, and which topics of love and nature can be observed. From the perspective of form, I analyze the rhyme scheme. The analysis of each thematic group also contains a comparation of the poems. The interpretational part aims to connect and evaluate the interweaving of love and nature in the poetic works of Eduard Mörike and touch upon the deeper meaning of the poems. Its aim is also to make the selected works...
