Poetical work of Josef Hanzlík in the 1960s and its period critical response

The aim of this bachelor's thesis is the analysis and comparison of critical response to the poetical work of Josef Hanzlík from the time period 1961-1967. These responses were published mostly in culturally or directly literary focused period press. The period and literary context also precedes the analysis. In the first chapter, the author briefly introduces the poet's life, then the literary and historical context of his work (the characteristics of the time period and its literary environment) and lastly the themes and the most frequently used motifs of Hanzlík's poetry. The second chapter deals with the term of "literary criticism", summarizes the evolution of literary criticism in the Czech environment of the 1960s, and the third one presents selected period press used in the thesis. The last chapter which forms a major part of this thesis, is dedicated to the analysis of critical responses. The author first shortly introduces the sources. She continues with the analysis of poetry collections with an emphasis on the opinions of individual literary critics. She then compares their critical attitudes and also observes the changes in their approach to the progression of the poet's work over the years.

Comparison of profesional reviews and user comments on Metacritic in the case of The Last of Us Part II

The subject of this thesis is to analyze and compare professional reviews and user comments on the aggregator Metacritic in the case of The Last of Us Part II. The goal of this thesis is to find out what distinguishes professional video game reviews from user comments, what dominant themes they contain and which of them play a major role in the final evaluation, on the example of The Last of Us Part II. First four chapters of the theoretical part of this thesis deal with the theoretical basis of the areas of game review and its function, review bombing, identification with protagonist and representation of female characters. The theoretical part ends with the introduction of The Last of Us Part II and the aggregator Metacritic. The research part contains a total of two surveys. The first two chapters are devoted to the introduction of methodologies of individual surveys and the definition of their research samples. The first research uses quantitative methods to describe the course of the user score over time. The second research uses qualitative thematic analysis to identify dominant themes in 10 professional reviews and 100 user comments. Reception and rating of Czech video games in gaming magazine Level

This bachelor thesis is devoted to the reception of video games developed by studios residing in the Czech republic through reviews published in the video game magazine Level since the foundation of the magazine in the 1995. Theoretical part describes basic contexts of the development of gaming journalism with the emphasis on the Czech scene, briefly explains the foundation and the history of Level and provides complete list of all reviews of Czech video games in up to now published issues. Research part examines the aspects of 10 picked individual texts, emphasizing the changes during years. Thesis aims to find out how and to what extent can reception of individual games be influenced by the fact, that they were developed in the Czech Republic, and how these aspects of reception change from the 1995 to these days. Choice of examined texts reflects the intention to study changes over the time and individual reviews are divided by approximately stable intervals.

The master thesis called "Czech films based on well-known criminal cases: from reality, newspaper/TV news to feature film and film reviews. Causa Velvet killers" deals with the notorious so-called Orlík Murders from the early 1990s. This case is considered as the biggest criminal case of the post-communist era in the Czech Republic. The group of five members killed five people, mainly for the money, between the years 1991 and 1993. Three of their victims were found in the Orlík Dam - two corpses were sealed in metal barrels and one was hidden in a mesh. The murderers were sentenced in 1997 after a four-year-long investigation. The movie called Velvet killers or The New Breed, which was directed by Jiří Svoboda, is based on these true events. This thesis focuses on the TV version of this motion picture and then also on the reviews published after the movie was released in 2005. This thesis mainly wants to reflect how the Czech media - specifically newspapers and television news - informed about this criminal case in analysed years from 1995 to 1997. The determining factor is the accuracy of the information. The aim of the work is to summarize the results of reporting on this case, which is still considered as one of the most brutal in the history of our country.

Media responses of Italo Calvino's writing in the in Czech and Italian periodicals

The objective of this thesis is the analysis of the media reception of chosen works of Italo Calvino in Czech and Italian periodicals. The first chapter discusses the literary criticism. The following chapter introduces the writer's life and moments determining his literary production. The mainstay of this work is divided into four chapters and is dedicated to the period literary crticism of the works chosen which were released in newspapers or literary periodicals both in Italy and the Czech Republic. The most significant reception showed the books The Path of the Spider's Nest, Invisible Cities, If on a Winter's Night a Traveler and Six Memos for the Next Millenium.

Title: Development of Czech Athletics Literature Objectives: The aim of this thesis is to describe and partially compare Czech athletics literature published in years 1939-2004. Methods: Literature research, compilation and comparison of data was used. Thirteen most significant books published between 1939-2004 were compared in the following topics: meaning of athletics, athletics training and its composition, and health care. Biological and related theories of aggression and its humoral regulation

Aggression is a phenomenon which acquired a substantial share on attention of biological literature, especially since the beginning of 20th century. In this thesis, various approaches to the problem from the field of biology are summarized. Intensified attention is dedicated to the theoretical concepts of aggression, especially the concepts consulting the problem of aggression from the evolutionary point of view and to the research on the field of hormonal regulation of aggression, stressing out the role of the hormone testosterone, and to particular hypothesis, which take account on its mutual relationship with behavior. The empirical part of the thesis is dedicated to verification of premises of the challenge hypothesis according to the relationship between testosterone and aggressive behavior. Significant findings of the empirical part refer to the existence of a link between basal level of testosterone and aggressive tendencies and to the existence of a negative link between basal level of testosterone and its increase in reaction to a competitive situation.

The thesis, called Czech films based on well-known criminal cases: from reality, newspaper news to feature film and film reviews. Murder in Polná - Case of Leopold Hilsner, deals with a criminal case which took place at the break of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century. A young girl, Anežka Hrůzová, was murdered in the Březina woods outside the town of Polná. At a time when anti-Semitic sentiments dominated the society, a Polná resident and a Jew, Leopold Hilsner, was accused as the perpetrator of the crime. He was later convicted of this crime, and another one of a similar nature, even though there was no relevant evidence or testimonies. The period news outlets played a significant role in spreading the anti-Semitic tendencies. This thesis describes the course of this real-life case and focuses on the methods the media used to inform about it. Director Viktor Polesný made a film on the issue, Zločin v Polné (Murder in Polná), which is analysed in the thesis, along with the reviews written about this film, including the reception by viewers. The thesis compares the actual case with its film adaptation, and the responses of the media, which accompanied both the event itself and the film. Evolution of brain size and encephalization in birds

Vertebrates show dramatic interspecific variation in the size of their brains. Large and complex brains evolved independently in birds and mammals. Despite many fundamental differences in their anatomical organization, recent evidence indicates that extensive regions of the avian cerebrum are homologous to pallial components of the mammalian brain. Birds have brains that are comparable in their relative size to the brains of mammals, and much larger than the brains of non avian reptiles. However, the selection pressures that have driven evolution of avian brains remain poorly understood. Comparative analyses identified various traits such as body size, metabolic rate, maternal investment, parental care, prolonged development, mating system and migratory behaviour as important correlates of relative brain size. By contrast, there seems to be a little evidence that sociality favour the evolution of large brains in birds. It has also been shown that particular behaviours such as song learning or food-hoarding correlate with size of those brain regions that participate in these behaviours.
