Social and cultural status digital entertainment
Vnouček, Petr ; Švelch, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Nečas, Vlastimil (referee)
This work uncovers perceptions of the Czech society concerning cultural and social role of a digital entertainment (computer games and videogames) as a relatively new interactive media form. The author tries to verify validity of a presumption that the digital entertainment is an object of a cultural stigma that was formed by combination of various factors which are closely specified in the work. According to the author, present perception of the digital entertaiment in society is formed by a media panic that repeated itself regularly in the course of history. Amongst other significant determinants one can find certain stereotypical viewes, efforts of a ruling class to sustain status quo and struggle of various social groups over cultural dominance which leads to hierarchization of cultural tastes. Suggested cultural stigmatisation of the digital entertainment probably leads to a social stigmatisation of players, who submit to social pressures and often adapt their behaviour to general tastes. Essential part of the work is formed by a research based on qualitative and quantitative data collected from teachers and gymnasium (high schools) and elementary school students. The research supports a presumption that the negative view on the digital entertainment is subject to specific generational...

Kyjonková, Petra ; Jirák, Jan (advisor) ; Gibarti, Jana (referee)
Rigorous thesis "Disruptive media technologies - theories and application to the Czech media environment" deals with a concept of disruptive technologies, which results from the economical model of creative destruction made by founder of innovation theories Joseph Alois Schumpter. Although he had described adverse impact on present market structure at the beginning of 20th century, media studies revealed them lately, precisely in the year 1995 in an economical model of another economist Clayton Christensen. In the late 20th century, with the evolution of the internet, first studies based on media corporations' trade model have investigate disruptive impact of new communication channels on the older ones. This rigorous thesis transmits these analyses onto Czech media environment, which is still strongly affected by the transformation process started 20 years ago. It illustrates the influence of the whole transmutation on the innovation process and the reason why it is so necessary to examine it separately for all Post-communist countries. This work then discusses the impact of internet as a new sort of media on the market, especially analyzing the symbiosis of the internet version and the printed version of the Lidové noviny journal, and unfolds the weak points and the potentials of this co-existence, not...

Czech Literary criticism on internet
Kučera, Štěpán ; Kraus, Jiří (advisor) ; Čeňková, Jana (referee)
This rigorous thesis surveys Czech literary criticism on internet and its relationship towards printed literary criticism, or generally, relationship between new and traditional media. I define what "Czech literary criticism on the internet" can mean, and describe its situation in 2009 and 2012. I created an imaginary central line going from the pole of traditional media to the pole of new media and aligned the groups of websites on this scale. I found important projects there that exist in the periphery of Czech literary life (as reflected by the traditional media). Then I asked members of the web projects to fill in a short questionnaire focused on literary criticism on internet and its relationship to the culture of traditional media. Also, I posed the same questions to Czech book publishers as representatives of the traditional culture. In comparison of 2009 and 2012 I found out that the websites connected to the traditional printed culture tend to parish, or on the contrary, transform into professional projects (usually with state financial support). The closer to the pole of new media, the more viable the websites tend to be. I also notices increasing role of social networks, such as Facebook. For some websites these networks have become a welcome platform to address wider audience, while for others...
