Jiráček, Jiří ; Randák, Jan (advisor) ; Kopeček, Michal (referee)
The presented thesis deals with the topic of Czechoslovak cultural politics in music during the Socialist Realist era. The author based the study on the personal history of Václav Dobiáš, a prominent composer, cultural organiser and a pedago- gue, who serves as a typical representation of an artist, who bestowed all his artistic talents to the cause of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia. The first chapter briefly describes Socialist Realism as a movement in music in the Soviet Union, the place of its origin. The main emphasis is put on the introduction to Zhdanov's po- litical speech, which consequently became the mandatory norm in the countries of the Eastern bloc. The next chapter is focused on Czechoslovak reflexion of Socialist Realism and its reception. This chronological development aims to expose the spe- cifics of each periods' reception of this artistic movement. Following chapters are dedicated to Václav Dobiáš. The first chapter of this part of the thesis deals with the beginning of the artist's journey which was strongly influenced by the avantgarde movement of 1930's. Next chapters depict his adoption of communist ideology in 1945, explore the motives behind this ideological conversion and characterize his po- litically-engaged work. Institucional Analysis of Support of Czech Cinematography
Pavlíková, Laura ; Háva, Petr (advisor) ; Nekolný, Bohumil (referee)
Using the optics of institutional analysis, the master's thesis "Institutional Analysis of Support of Czech Cinematography" examines and critically evaluates the dynamics of shifts in public policy approach towards audiovisual culture and its subvention from public resources. First, the subsystem of audiovisual policy is set into a broader social and cultural context. Then the thesis continues with identification of key events that influenced the formal institutions of cinematography support, one of the most significant branches of audiovisual culture. Following the Velvet Revolution, cinematography is approached with a neoliberal optics because of its potential to generate a financial profit and its artistic dimension and ability to function as a medium for values and education are sidelined. Despite declared efforts to support cinematography, the state institutions do not offer any conceptual solution for severely underfinanced sector of domestic cinematography, the sector, whose functionality should be in public interest. Only recently, changes in formal institutions, striving to bring a more complex quality approach back to cinematography, can be observed. As long as there is no conceptual financial support, however, the desired goals cannot be achieved.

Kučerová, Monika ; Köpplová, Barbara (advisor) ; Bednařík, Petr (referee)
The subject of the thesis "Selected samizdat magazines 1980 - 1987 (X Desítka (Ten)/Violit and Jednou nohou (One Foot)/Revolver Revue)" is to give a picture of how these magazines were created and how they functioned in the context of the time. The first part of the thesis gives a general description of historical events, especially the period surrounding Gustáv Husák's rise to become the head of the Czechoslovak Communist Party and the start of normalisation. This change brought about issues such as political cleansing and trials and the development of opposition. The second chapter is devoted to the phenomenon of Charter 77, its origins, the response to it by the party and state apparatus and what it meant to be a Charter 77 member in everyday life. The concept of samizdat is briefly defined in chapter three. The fourth and fifth chapters deal with the magazines themselves. In the sixth chapter they are compared mainly in terms of production and distribution.

Husák, Martin ; Končelík, Jakub (advisor) ; Vaněk, Miroslav (referee) ; Stehlík, Michal (referee)
The thesis "Controlling and managing a music production in the period of normalization on the example of rock music and its media portrayal" describes and analyses the system of controlling and managing Czechoslovak music production in the period of normalization with a particular attention to the mechanisms that deployed socialist ideological and aesthetical standards in the area of rock music. Additionally, this included a prescriptive media coverage highlighting socialist values using coordinated and centralised management through state institutions. The goal of the thesis is then to reveal a modus operandi of communist cultural policy on the examples of media approach to the trials with leading underground music protagonists in 1976 as rock music was a vehicle for expression their dissent attitude toward the system in an artistic way.
State Support of the Art: media discourse and public attitude
Zahradníčková, Zuzana ; Šafr, Jiří (advisor) ; Vojtíšková, Kateřina (referee)
The diploma thesis deals with the issue of public attitude towards the state cultural policy. It examines the changes of media discourse regarding the state support of the art after 1989. Articles from "Lidové noviny" and "Právo" from the years 1990-1993, 1995-1996, 2005 and 2013 have been analysed. The selection focuses on such periods in which the issue of the relation between the state and culture was discussed in a greater extent (the period of essential changes of cultural infrastructure within the framework of economic transformation, publishing of the so-called White Book as the first cultural policy draft, discussion regarding the manifestation for "1% for the Culture" and the petition action "Safe the Culture"). The results of critical discourse analysis of media texts are complemented and partly confronted with the quantitative analysis of public opinion polls.
Czech public art collections and the acquisition policy during the normalization era
Sloupová, Andrea ; Klimešová, Marie (advisor) ; Šetlík, Jiří (referee) ; Neumann, Ivan (referee)
The doctoral thesis Czech public art collections and the acquisition policy during the normalization era deals with the topic of domestic institutional operation in 1970s and 1980s, with specific focus on activities of galleries incorporated in the national, hierarchically organized network of art institutions. The research of these acquisition activities uncovers composition of the works of art acquired this way. It finds aspects in which individual institutions differed and detects the reasons behind these differences. Besides the acquisition process itself, the thesis also outlines the circumstances of establishment of the gallery network and summarizes its activities in more tolerant 1960s based on various material sources and oral history. The acquisition policy of galleries as such is analysed in the thesis covering the period from the beginning of the year 1970, when the resolution of the turning meeting of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia in April 1969 started to be fulfilled, until the end of the year 1989. Geographically, it is limited to the Czech territory. The results obtained by the analysis point out fundamental differences between individual institutions and between regions in which they operated. The results bring answers to questions concerning...
