The theory is demonstrated on a case study of Cuban embargo imposed by the United States after 1959. The third party was the former USSR who helped Cuba from their economical problems so Cuba did not have to surrender to American conditions.
When there’s only one: resource sharing and the predicament of the dissertation request
Eighmy Brown, Melissa ; Smith, Austin ; Thompson, Hilary H.
Electronic theses and dissertations (ETDs) are one of the many resources interspersed throughout the current environment of online content. The past two decades have witnessed a shift from print to electronic theses and dissertations and an accompanying growth in university mandates requiring deposit of ETDs in institutional repositories. While these changes should have paved the way for unfettered online access, barriers such as embargoes requested by the author and vendor licensing restrictions have also emerged, hampering access to these unpublished works. Likewise, policies governing cataloging, deposit, and repository access may differ widely across institutions, adding further complexity to the landscape. Interlibrary Loan practitioners are looking for ways to share this unique content and help users navigate the terrain despite the obstacles. This presentation will explore recent trends in thesis requesting and fulfillment using borrowing and lending requests for theses and dissertations from two U.S. public research universities, along with the perspectives of colleagues at peer institutions. These data sets demonstrate that the demand for these materials extends across borders, raising the question: how can we encourage the sharing of ETDs on a global scale? The authors hope their research on the accessibility of theses and dissertations will inform the international academic community on ways to improve the sharing of these important institutional assets, including raising awareness of the need for a policy and workflow that permits controlled ILL lending of embargoed ETDs that mirrors lending of print dissertations.

Cuban economic transformation and normalization of relations with the USA
Jenáčková, Monika ; Jiránková, Martina (advisor) ; Bič, Josef (referee)
The diploma thesis deals with the economic system of Cuba which worked for nearly fifty years on almost unchanging principles of central planning. Since 2007, measures have been put in place to change the functioning of Cuba's economic system towards lower state participation in the economy and an emphasis on market values. The aim of this diploma thesis is to find measures that support the statement that the Cuban command system is being transformed into market economy, and to describe the characteristics of the Cuban transformation. Another objective is, based on knowledge of the historical background, to assess possible implications of normalizing relations with the US. The work is divided into three parts. The starting point for the analysis of the Cuban economic system is the theoretical definition of economic systems and the transformation process in the first chapter, followed by a description of the long-term functioning of the Cuban command system and the historical development of relations with the US in the second chapter. The third chapter presents and evaluates the measures implemented in Cuba since 2007, which are closely related to the transformation to the market economy. In addition, the possible implications of normalization of Cuba-US relation are analyzed. At the end of the diploma thesis, there is a SWOT analysis of the current Cuban economy that concludes the issue.

Veselá, Gabriela ; Raška, Francis (advisor) ; Kozák, Kryštof (referee)

The main objective of this work is to answer how the US- Cuban relationship has changed since 2009, and to show the positive approach of the new president and his government administration towards Cuba and their share on these changes. The thesis analyses factors that resulted in gradual releasing of political tension between the US and Cuba, events that contributed to this process over the years 2009-2014 and steps that US and Cuban governments have undertaken to develop mutual cooperation. The work focuses mainly on the influence throughout presidency of Obama and his efforts to start negotiations with Cuban government. Along with this, the thesis analyses matters that prevented and still partly prevent full recovery of US-Cuban future cooperation, such as economic embargo imposed on Cuba and lack of Cuban respect for human rights. The author comes to conclusion that recovery of diplomatic relations between the US and Cuba in December 2014 is mainly the result of forthcoming policy of Barack Obama, who refused to go on in non-functional form of the anti-Cuban policy, applied by most American Presidents since the 60s. Hrušková, Magdaléna ; Krausz Hladká, Malvína (advisor) ; Machart, Filip (referee)
The Bachelor Thesis "Struggle for democracy and human rights in Cuba - the role of dissidents and non-governmental organizations" concerns a role of dissident movement in a possible democratic transition.
