The picaresque in Angela Carter
Mečířová, Eliška ; Nováková, Soňa (advisor) ; Wallace, Clare (referee)
in English This MA thesis focuses on the analysis of picaresque elements and traces of the picaresque genre in chosen novels of Angela Carter, namely her two most picaresque novels: The Infernal Desire Machines of Doctor Hoffman (1972) and Nights at the Circus (1984). However, as I have strived to prove throughout the analysis, Carter's earlier novels from the sixties, The Magic Toyshop (1967), and Heroes and Villains (1969) are also rich in picaresque themes and motives of the journey and therefore deserve to have their place in the analysis too. In the introduction the dissertation traces the history of the picaresque from its sixteenth-century Spanish roots until its more modern and postmodern development. It also stresses that in relation to Carter's work it is important to take into account her intertextuality. In describing it Linden Peach borrows Julia Kristeva's quotation from Semiotike, Recherches pour un Semanalyse where she observes that: "Every text builds itself as a mosaic of quotations, every text is absorption and transformation of another text."1 For Carter this is especially valid - her novels are hybrid, multi-layered mosaics which use and at the same time subvert mythology, the Bible, European and English literary works, Renaissance drama (Shakespeare), fairy-stories and folk...

Maříková, Hana ; Buriánek, Jiří (advisor) ; Kozlová, Lucie (referee) ; Kuchařová, Věra (referee)
1 Abstract: In her dissertation thesis, the author concentrates on the phenomenon of 'caring fathers'. Her primary goal was not to explicate the transformations of fatherhood but to explore whether direct and daylong childcare provided by the father leads to the elimination of gender inequalities in the family during the period when the father is involved in childcare as the primary care provider or co-provider as well as during the immediately following period when he returns to the labour market. This issue is a less explored one in Czech sociology and related sciences than the first topic even as fathers' participation in childcare and child education is considered to be one of the ways to challenge cultural and social inequalities between genders. In her work the author aims to answer the question whether in families where fathers are involved in childcare in the early stages of the child's life, gender inequalities in the family are disrupted or whether this situation constitutions a mere modification of the status quo. She asks when gender equality in families occurs (or can occur) and what the relationship is between gender equality in the family and gender inequality in larger society. The study is based on a specifically designed qualitative research study carried out in 2006 and in 2009 through...

RESUME My dissertation follows the subject of coding procedure. It focuses on the graphical coding, which naturally reveals within the child's artwork development. The dissertation aims at the transformation of 2D to 3D, vice versa. The four to five years old children are observed how they decode the three dimensional (3D) structure consisted of cubes into a two dimensional (2D) squared network. Observed children are offered various activities to prove whether they are able to accept the code, using the code to decode their own structure and finally build the structure using this code. My dissertation does not only represent an overview of commonly used symbols and methods and their records, but in particular brings interesting results and analyses of tests and comparations between individual children and kindergartens.
