Alkaloids are important natural substances, which are not directly mentioned within the Chemistry Curriculum in the Framework Education Programme for Secondary General Education (Grammar Schools). However, they are a topic which unites more disciplines and allows educating in wider context and across different subjects (Chemistry, Biology and Health Education). They are certainly important topic in terms of drug abuse prevention and Health Education. The objective of this diploma thesis is creation of new educational materials for this topic for grammar school teachers and students. The theoretical part contains a literary research consisting of an analysis of curricular documents, a selection of secondary school chemistry textbooks, a selection of electronic teaching materials, and a proposal for including the topic in grammar school education. Demonstrations as an illustrative tool in chemistry education
Hájková, Zdeňka ; Šmejkal, Petr (advisor) ; Klečková, Marta (referee) ; Nižňanský, Daniel (referee)
Demonstrations are considered an important illustrative tool in chemistry education. Quite often teachers use demonstrations of experiments and multimedia demonstrations. Besides, "non-experimental" demonstrations might also be useful, such as material models and demonstrations based on macroscopic analogy that can be usually carried out only with household items and materials. This dissertation is especially aimed at selecting appropriate demonstrations, at their design, development and use of "non-experimental" demonstrations. Moreover, special attention was paid to the interdisciplinary demonstrations concerning the nanoworld, so called "nanodemonstrations". All "nanodemonstrations" presented are safe, cheap and rather timesaving. Furthermore, they can be carried out in a form of lecture and / or students' demonstration. Newly created as well as adopted (and modified) "nanodemonstrations" were collected into the Czech database of "nanodemonstrations". The database was additionally accompanied with following educational materials concerning "nano": two PowerPoint presentations, worksheets that supplement students' "nanodemonstrations" and worksheets with interdisciplinary tasks. This thesis also deals with the evaluation of "nanodemonstrations" and worksheets in secondary school classes. The...
Term of evolution and its understanding by students of secondary schools and high schools
Müllerová, Lucie ; Teodoridis, Vasilis (referee) ; Pavlasová, Lenka (referee)
This thesis deals with the conception of evolutionary topic in schools and textbooks. It introduces education systems and curricular documents of England, Scotland and the Czech Republic. Based on this information an analysis of biology textbooks was made, which was focused on the theme of evolution. The research included 62 textbooks distributed by 27 different publishers. Comparative SWOT analysis of these textbooks has shown that the concept of biology in general is presented differently, what is also reflected in the interpretation of the studies of evolution. The questionnaire research based on those findings was done in the Czech Republic. It is focused on secondary school and high school pupil's knowledge and their personal opinions about this topic. 586 pupils took part in this research. It was found that in the context of evolutionary processes the pupils have problems to use commonly known biological, or evolutionary terms (e.g. adaptation, evolution of the organisms). On the other hand some pupils can easily define some more complicated evolutionary topics such as Neo-Darwinism. Pupils have quite various personal opinions on the issue of the evolution. Some of them are not interested in this area; the others have many questions about the topic of evolution. Some questions are relevant,...

Hána, Petr ; Jirásková, Věra (referee) ; Havlůjová, Hana (referee)
1950s may be classified as one of the worst periods in Czechoslovakia's history. The totalitarian communist regime in the period between 1948 and 1953 is called the Stalinism. The primary objective hereof was to evaluate teaching about the Stalinism period in Czechoslovakia in secondary schools, in particular, to assess the scope of correctness and completeness of the related curriculum and teaching methods. The secondary objective hereof was to introduce and describe the Stalinism as a typical example of totalitarianism and to define crucial elements of this non-democratic form of government using the example of Czechoslovakia from 1948 to 1953. The thesis proceeds from the theoretical part via a case study to the practical part. The first part classifies totalitarianism, defines its historical outset and determines its main features. The second chapter describes and explains the Stalinism, which is a typical example of totalitarianism having functioned in practice in the Soviet Union from where it spread to the majority of the Communist countries, including Czechoslovakia. The third chapter explains the practical application of the Stalinism elements and methods used to control a society according to the Soviet model using the example of Czechoslovakia from 1948 to 1953. The practical part hereof focuses...
Internet Educational Atlas Focusing on Soil Arthropods
Dvořáková, Jana ; Mourek, Jan (advisor) ; Říhová, Dagmar (referee)
The main objective of this thesis was to create an educational website aimed at soil arthropods. It can be used primarily by teachers of biology and ecology, lecturers of extracurricular science education or by the students who are interested in this issue. This photographic atlas of soil arthropods consists of my own micro images obtained by the use of light and scanning electron microscope. The micro images are accompanied by text to each group of soil arthropods, which is divided into sections containing information about the systematic classification, anatomy and morphology, biology and importance, eventually representatives of the group. The atlas is accompanied by other materials usable in the classroom, such as didactic test, didactic game and proposals for group work, worksheet, field and laboratory work or educational presentations focused on soil arthropods. These materials can be downloaded from the website, along with the entire atlas of soil arthropods. The atlas is available on the following address: https://sites.google.com/site/pudniclenovci/. The review of the literature deals with the importance of arthropods in the soil and their mutual interactions. Then I describe the methods of study of arthropods (sampling, sample preparation for light and scanning electron microscopy and...
