Activities of trade unions in the Czech republic

Thesis focuses on activities of Czech unions on an example of ČMKOS. Main ideological influences are presented as well as historical evolution regarding Czech trade unions. The text is further focused on the role trade unions played during the Velvet revolution and transformational aftermath. Next chapters analyse the current role of unions, challenges they are facing and what kind of instruments they are using to support their demands. The analysis applies on ČMKOS and deals with personal staffing and relationships with political parties. Last part handles coverage ČMKOS is getting from Czech media.
Influence of Labour Unions on Economic Growth in EU-15 Countries

This thesis analyses a relationship between the trade union density and the growth rate in 10 European countries in years 1960-2010. Using VAR models and Granger causality testing, the outcomes show a cauzality only in case of Italy where the trade union density responds to changes in economic growth rate. In case of other countries there are several signs of reactions to economic impulses, especially during years of crisis, yet not enough significant. The theoretical part introduces reader into the historical background of this relationship observed by many authors, i. e. it defines the labour market viewed from two perspectives, explains the origin and existing models of labour unions and finally, it shows on empirical studies the economic consequences of the influence of labour unions and their presence on the labour market. Conflict between Margaret Thatcher´s conservative government and trade unions

Bachelor's thesis focuses on comparison of opinions about Margaret Thatcher's conservative government in the UK. The main emphasis is put on the steps taken in connection with trade unions. It includes a brief record of economic policy development since post-war years until the period of the second Thatcher government. Economic, political and social aspects of the strikes are summarized, including eyewitness evidences. Thesis falsifies speculation whether Margaret Thatcher's trade union policy was only economically oriented and neglected the effects on social welfare.

In this bachelor thesis, I deal with the relationship between the legislative protection of workers and the unemployment rate in Spain. I also focused my attention on labour market flexibility, influence of unions, as well as on high unemployment among young people. In detail, I have analysed the labour market reforms of 2010 and 2012 and assessed their influence on the market which can be founded in reduction of duality in legislative protection of employees. Based on these findings, I suggest several measures that should effectively reduce high unemployment and improve labour mobility.
Social dialog in local government in the Czech Republic

The aim of this work is to describe the quality of social dialogue in local government in the area of Czech Republic, to find out if there is, in the presence of trade union in the local government institutions, a positive influence on civil servants working for local authorities and if the impacts on austerity measures realized are reduced. For this purpose, it is important to give a detailed description of a position and function that the local government in the public sector in the Czech Republic has and to clarify a position of civil servants working for local authorities. In this work, there is also described the system of social dialog and there are analyzed the social dialog institutions with the aim of the local government. In order to find out the trade union influence over the public servants working for local authorities satisfaction, it is carried out a survey at all levels of local government. It is found a little influence on the satisfaction that the trade unions have, resulting from a relatively poor labor union organized character. This situation is, in connection with austerity measures, one cause of the social dialog in the public sector ineffectiveness.
Labour unions and collective bargaining

The bachelor thesis deals with the problematic of labour unions and collective bargaining. It describes the history and formation of labour unions, legislation, the way labour unions deal, rights that they have, areas labour unions deal with, the way a collective bargaining takes place and the way of dealing with collective disputes. In the second part the thesis concentrates on a comparison of two collective agreements with aim to choose the more beneficial one. This part is also aimed to show how a collective agreement looks and what it deals with. In the last part of the thesis there is a questionnaire, in which the respondents answered questions about labour unions. The point of the questionnaire is to find out how people perceive labour unions and to outline possible reasons of decreasing unionized employees in the Czech Republic.
Contribution to the study of the origin and development of the welfare state in Great Britain between 1945 and 1990

The main purpose of the work is to analyze the most important aspects of post war development in Great Britain. My attention will be focused primarily on measures taken by the Labour government, which for the first time in history came to power. In second part I will describe the building of the welfare state from the World War II until the end of 80's of the 20th century, when Margaret Thatcher was elected to be the prime minister. In the third part of the work I will analyze her impact on the economic conversion of Great Britain from Keynesianism to Monetarist doctrine of free market forces and responsibility of each individual for his / her fate. The government of Margaret Thatcher has set a new direction, which becomes the inspiration for many other politicians around the world. In the end of the work, I will describe the circumstances which led to the resignation of the first female prime minister in the history of Great Britain.
Imperfections in the labor market, focusing on trade unions

The diploma thesis deals with labour market imperfections, specifically with trade union. The aim is to define the role and function of trade unions in the Czech republic. The theoretical part deals with economic terminology of the labour market. It explains the difference between the labour market in perfect and imperfect conditons and describes causes and effects of imperfections. Finally the theoretical part focuses on the issue of trade union, theirs economic status, legislation and applied strategies. The practical part describes the history of trade unions in the world, especially in the Czech republic. It offers insights into trade unions in the USA and Europe, which is accompanied by the development of trade unionists, including current data. With regards to the focus of the piece of work on the Czech Republic, it is continued the work with the largest organisation of trade unions ČMKOS, theirs goals and activities. The practical part has two parts to maintain objectivity, namely the part referring to the positive influence of trade unions and the part about their negative impact on the labour market. Finally the work outlines the trend of labour market and trade union organisation.
