Economic and social interaction during Normalization era - system of return services and barter exchange in non-cash market

The diploma thesis Economic and social interaction during Normalization era is is based on qualitative research. It deals with issues of system of return services and barter exchange in non - cash market in 1970's and 1980's in Czechoslovakia. The centrally planned economy was not able to produce enough consumer goods and meet the demand of the population. Employees, who worked in department stores, took easier approach to consumer goods than others. They excercised power over distribution and they traded some commodities for another services. As a research method applied is oral history. The primary sources used are narrative interview and secondary history literature.
Factors determining educational aspirations in the Czech Republic after 1989

5 Abstract In the bachelor thesis are described factors, which take part in forming of educational aspirations after 1989. Forming factors of educational aspirations are identified in the context of changes, which were in the Czech society during the last 25 years. The opening chapters are focused on historical context of forming educational aspirations. Factors are examined on the three levels: structural, individual and contextual. Forming factors are studied by available researches from the Czech republic and the point of view of their forming is enriched by knowledge from foreign researches. The thesis contains discussion about findings and the search of available studies, which contribute to aknowledgement of forming factors of educational aspirations. Zhe Scuk.cz Project: user-generated content from the perspective of quality control and creators' motivation. Case study

This Master degree thesis deals with content quality regulation and motivation to participate in the Scuk.cz project - web server dedicated to reviews of restaurants and other culinary venues. The server represents a specific case of user-generated content (UGC) whose content comes from closed community of reviewers chosen among non-professional food lovers by the server's founder. Aim of this thesis is to describe this filtration and regulation process as well as the qualitative criteria applied to reviewers and reviews, both from the point of view of administrators and community members. It uses the theory of reputation systems as well as Carpentier's more dynamic concept of quality as the ever-changing result of democratic negotiations (in the context of community media, as Scuk.cz can be to a certain extent). Motivations for participation are explained with Bourdieu's concepts of social and cultural capital and their later derivations. Empirical part of the study is based on qualitative interviews with administrators and 11 community members and following thematical analysis. Brains versus Brawn: Comparison of the Educational and Occupational Status of non-EU Labour Migrants in the Czech Republic

The main aim of this thesis is to examine the educational and occupational structure of non-EU labour migration to the Czech Republic. Using insights from human capital theory and the sociology of migration this thesis explores the extent to which there is an educational-occupational mismatch among non-EU migrant workers in the Czech Republic. This thesis uses currently available statistical data and evidence from qualitative and quantitative sociological studies. The dissertation exploits data from two unique surveys conducted by the Institute of Sociology, Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic in 2006 and 2010.
Lifestyle, food trends and social position: limits and possibilities of application of the Pierre Bourdieu's model to partial research of lifestyle and eating habits in the Czech Republic

Bachelor's work is focused on lifestyle and eating habits and how are these facts affected by positioning of the individual in the social space. Theory was primary based on Pierre Bourdieu's concept of space of lifestyle and space of food, secondary also on works of others sociologists and anthropologists. Research tool is online questionnaire; survey was conducted via CASI panel. Survey was analysed through particular social groups based on typology and also on basic sociodemographic characteristics. Analysis confirmed that there exist statistically significant differences between some of groups, consequently differences in lifestyle and food preferences based on positioning of individual in the social space can be stated.
The Youth Consumerism and Its Interdependency with Economic and Cultural Capital

The work deals with the consumerism of thirteen and fourteen years old youths. The authoress aims to answer the question of what extent the observed age category seems to be consumer in their attitudes and whether their consumerist attitudes have an universal character or whether it is structurally related to their economic and cultural capital. At first the authoress briefly presents the consumerism as a sociological topic. She pays a particular attention to the impact of social stratification on the lifestyle. As her main theoretical basis she states a concept of homologous classes of Pierre Bourdieu, from which she incorporates the concept of economic and cultural capital as the main differentiating principles affecting the lifestyle. In addition she presents the characteristics of today's school children in the context of Czech society and mentions the role of socialization in the transfer of capital and consumption patterns from parents to their child. Finally, the authoress describes her approach to the analysis of data on attitudes towards the consumption in defined age category. Books potential as resource of cognitive cultural capital: effects on educational attainment and socioeconomic status

The thesis The potential of books as a source of cognitive cultural capital: the impact on educational attainment and socioeconomic status deals with the socio-cultural phenomenon of reading that is understand as a cognitive skill whether is closely linked to the child's basic needs and habits of operating and learning. The aim of this study is to explore the mechanism of cultural activities (such as a specific type of cultural capital) that is shaped by family and school and forms the individual abilities of human beings. From this perspective it is determinate prerequisite for success in life. The theoretical part describes the life stages of reading with a clearly defined reading's habits and built up the relationship between child and book. Afterwards this part of thesis outlines the concept of cognitive cultural capital and summarizes the importance of external determinants for emergence and development of interest in reading. Lifestyle and social capital "active young generation".

Diploma thesis "Lifestyle and Social Capital 'active young generation'" discusses the background of the relevant theoretical anchor, the two dimensions of individual life in society - the lifestyle that is in this work conceived as a space for identity formation (through the dimension of consumerism) and it operationalize the concept of leisure sports and related sportive activities, the second dimension is the theme of social capital, in accordance with its structural components (egocentric individual networks) and cultural aspects (defined by degree of tolerance and social trust ). The aim of this work is through the empirical sociological analysis of representative survey ISSP 2007 Volný cas a sport and Distinkce a hodnoty 2008, map to the active lifestyle of the individual in its socio-demographic and socio-economic determinants, monitors the process of sport socialization within the family and close friends and value preferences and orientation, the which may be active in leisure sports potential impact. In conclusion, this work deals with effects of sports on the components of social capital.
