Media Portrait of Enrique Peña Nieto in The New York Times and Los Angeles Times

This Master's thesis is analyzing the media portrait of Mexican president Enrique Peña Nieto in two American newspapers - The New York Times and Los Angeles Times. In this thesis, you can find the quantitative and the qualitative analysis of the image of Mexican president in the newspapers since his election in 2012 until the end of 2017. Peña Nieto is a member of Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) which was in power from 1929 till 2000. Peña Nieto is the first president after 12 years break who brought this party back to power. American presidential elections also took place during his administration and Barack Obama was replaced by Donald Trump. The thesis focus on three topics which are for many years the most critical parts of the U.S.-Mexican relationship: illegal immigration, the war on drugs and NAFTA. The analysis shows that Peña Nieto's image is portrayed in two opposite ways depends on the topic. He is presented as a competent leader in the questions of illegal immigration and NAFTA renegotiation. On the other, his leadership failed in the matter of drug issues in Mexico. The analysis also shows that Peña Nieto's image in the NY Times and the LA Times changed after Donald Trump's victory in the presidential elections. Political Discourse of Coalitions in the Social Housing Policy in the Czech Republic

This diploma thesis examine a social housing in the Czech Republic. This is very actual topic of nowadays. Until now, no legislative norm has been adopted to deal with the difficult housing distress of the population. While comparing with other European and non-European countries, Czech housing legislation is about to lose its breath. For example in terms of affordability of housing, quality of housing, housing security etc. The reason of this diploma thesis is to analyze the network connections between subsystem of social housing through public political theory Advocacy Coalition Framework The very first software tool in the Czech Republic which apply the theory in practise was tool called Discourse Network Analyzer. The core part of the research of the diploma thesis is therefore a discourse analysis, which focuses on examining the political beliefs of the subsystems and identifying the advocacy coalitions of the subsystem. Followed up with interpretations of the data obtained indicated political beliefs in historical, social and economic circumstances. The main findings of the diploma thesis include confirmation of three advocacy coalitions in the subsystem of social housing.
Presentation of libraries in media and media representation of librarians

The aim of this thesis is to analyze the media image of libraries and librarians in the years 2007-2011. The first part describes the theoretical knowledge of marketing and promotional tools used in libraries, with a particular focus on media tools. The second part is followed by a practical part, which monitors the application of these tools and the results of their action with regard to the public. Theoretical knowledge based ideas Philip Kotler were supplemented with a practical knowledge gained from the media analysis of the years 2007-2011, whose data were obtained from the database Anopress. Mapping the current marketing situation in the media library for a chance to innovate their marketing practices and to attract to the library and more satisfied users.
The analysis of the Palach's week in 1989 in selected media

The bachelor thesis "The Analysis of the Palach Week in 1989 in Selected Media" deals with the presentation of (presents) incidents which happened during the Palach Week on from the 15th to the 21st of January 1989 in the official media and their unofficial alternatives. The aim of this work is to clarify, how truthful or misleading was information in the largest media in the context of real historical events in the totalitarian establishment of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic. The theme is based on an act of Jan Palach in 1969, which has been reminded twenty years later by manifestations of civil initiatives calling for democratization of the regime. The work researches news reports and articles in The Czechoslovak Television, The Czechoslovak Radio, Radio Free Europe, BBC, Voice of America, Prague's Evening newspaper (Večerní Praha) and Lidové noviny. By using the qualitative content and frequency analysis, it compares the information given to the people by the normalization media controlled by the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia and the independent samizdat titles.
The Analysis of Media Messages: the 1989 Palach Week

The main proposition is that the newspapers which were published by political parties were informing about the events more frequently than other media. This assumption was proved just in part - the newspaper with the biggest number of articles concerning the events was "Rudé právo" published by the communist party, however, the rest of the communist press was lagging behind. One of the findings of this work is that all of the newspapers used media instruments in different proportion. Apart from that, two days of a turning point are identified in all the newspapers in the given period of analysis, both of them were marked with an increase or decrease of the number of articles. The chosen reasearch method is the quantitative analysis supplemented in part by comparison of the results.
Manipulation between the Lines: The Media Image of the USA and Israel in Turkish Internet Press

This thesis examines the way in which the United States of America and the State of Israel are represented in Turkish internet press. The newspapers that have been chosen for the analysis are Zaman and Hürriyet, which are two of the most read newspapers in the country, but at the same time differ from each other in a significant way. The first part concentrates on the history of the Turkish press and also outlines the general characteristics of the chosen newspapers. The second part provides a brief overview of Turkey's relations with the Unites States and Israel. The final part consists of an analysis of the newspaper articles that were published on the official internet websites of the abovementioned periodicals. The aim of this thesis is to examine to what extent the editorial line of both periodicals and the general ideology behind them influences the style of the articles and the criteria which decide the content and selection of these articles. In the last part, I shall also compare and contrast the image of the USA and Israel that Zaman and Hürriyet present their readers.
Warriors of Faith in the Third Czechoslovak Republic

! Warriors of Faith is the first Czechoslovak colored feature film, which narrates the final stage of Hussite Wars. This film should approved the legitimacy of nationalized cinematography and beca- me the representative work of the Czechoslovak art. This movie fitted in the nationalistic folklore of Czech culture, hussite tradition and allowed the argumentation against Germans, liberals and to em- phasize other aspects of Czech nationalism. Cinematography and press were the most important mass media in those days and were regulated or controlled by the government of National Front. The aim of this bachelor thesis is to clarify (through media analysis) in what matter the press reflec- ted the movie, or rather in what sense resonated the Czech nationalism in the selected texts.
Discourse Analysis of Representation of the Greek Crisis in Wall Street Journal

This thesis analyzes media representation of Greek crisis in the Wall Street Journal at the time of parliamentary elections in Greece in June 2012. Using the method of critical discourse analysis the thesis characterizes the specific representation, while focusing on the representation of key actors, their relationships and the economic program called austerity. This thesis argues that the representation reflects the discourse of neoliberalism, it demonstrates that it legitimizes the austerity plan and it identifies the means of argumentation, on which the discourse draws.
Media image of the "vitkov arsonists" case in čt1 tv news

This bachelor thesis deals with the media image of the 'Vítkov Arsonists' case in Czech Television main news programme Události between 19 April 2009 and 13 August 2009, which is the period beginning with the arson attack and ending with the detention of the suspects. The theoretical part is divided into two parts. The first one deals with the media image of the Roma people with a general focus on the problematics of stereotypization of ethnic minorities, in particular the Roma minority in Czech media. The second one is focused on the description of methods used for media analysis, in particular analysis of objectivity and its violations and visual analysis. The practical part of the thesis is focused on the analysis of the news items broadcasted by the given news programme in the determined time period in terms of quality and quantity. This part takes into account the number of news items related to the Vítkov case and their genre typology. It also analyses the informational quality of the content of the news items, the visual coverage of the case, as well as the presentation of the case and of the individuals involved in the case.
