Let the young vote: Potential effects of lowering the voting age on elections in Czechia
Čejka, Štěpán ; Palanský, Miroslav (advisor) ; Mošovský, Jan (referee)
Several countries throughout the world have already adopted a reform that enables younger voters, from 15 or 16 years old, to vote. This thesis examines the potential influence of including such voters in the Czech Republic on recent elections. A key feature of my work is that it combines several methods together to model the voter turnout of this age group. To estimate the potential voter turnout of the 15 to 17-year-old category we use fixed effects estimation, together with the exact numbers of citizens from the 2021 state Census and combine them together with the results of Student election that are held by the People in Need organization. The uniqueness of this thesis is that we model the voter turnout in every of the 76 Districts from the 2012 Region election until the 2021 Chamber of Deputies election. We particularly focus on the 2017 Chamber of Deputies and the 2018 Presidential elections both with very narrow outcomes. Finally, we estimate that the inclusion of the young voters most likely would not alter the results of neither election.
Amendment to electoral law into the Chamber of Deputies in 2021 and it's impacts
HLADÍKOVÁ, Barbora
The Bachelor's thesis "Change to the Electoral Law for The Chamber of Deputies in 2021 and their Impacts" explores the progression of the electoral law for the Chamber of Deputies from the formation of the independent Czech Republic to the present. This thesis aims to focus on the changes to the electoral law in 2021. The theoretical part draws from specialised literature and is devoted to the form of the electoral system for the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic from the early 1990s to the present. This thesis is mainly focused on the change in 2021, hence it includes the pre-election political situation, and particular changes that were approved, as well as all the impacts these changes had on the election results. The practical part consists of many calculations that show to what extent the changes in the electoral law affected the results of elections, specifically the allocation of each mandate among the participating parties. These calculations particularly compare the initial calculation based on the D'Hondt divisor and the new calculation based on the Imperiali quota.
United States Supreme Court case law on campaign finance
Vagenknecht, Milan Kristian ; Antoš, Marek (advisor) ; Jirásková, Věra (referee)
United States Supreme Court case law on campaign finance The diploma thesis deals with the development of US Supreme Court case law on the issue of electoral campaign finance while paying special attention to the question of the constitutionality of expenditure and contribution limits. Its main goal is to provide a comprehensive analysis of these cases to demonstrate how regulation of campaign finance works there, which is considerably different from systems found not only in the Czech Republic but also in Europe. At the same time, the author focuses primarily on providing insight into the more recent part of American case law, which has significantly loosened the whole regulatory system, especially regarding the financial participation of legal entities in electoral campaigns. The author divides the work into four parts. In the first part, the reader is introduced to the basic institutes and concepts that relate to the American campaign finance law and then compares them with their Czech counterparts in order to facilitate the understanding of the following three parts, which already cover the concrete cases. In particular, it analyzes various concepts of corruption. This part also deals with de lege ferenda issues, i.e., the effectiveness of the financial limits imposed on candidates that run for...

Rumiantceva, Iuliia ; Perottino, Michel (advisor) ; Charvát, Jan (referee)
This diploma thesis examines contemporary Czech conservatism in the context of the SPOLU coalition, which currently consists of three political parties (ODS, TOP 09 and KDU-ČSL). The thesis consists of a theoretical and analytical part, focused on the development of conservatism as an ideology and individual party families, as well as on the current political situation in Europe and the conservative faction of the EU. This work first deals with the concept of conservatism, its origin, and the definition of the concept. The analytical part of the work focuses on the analysis of the conservatism of the parties of the SPOLU coalition, including their attitude to traditional family values, national identity and culture, social and economic policy and other aspects that are fundamental to conservatism. Subsequently, the work deals with the ideological position of individual political parties and then performs their analysis. Based on the analysis, it is defined whether the parties are truly conservative. The work will also explore whether the coalition parties could merge to form a new political party. The research questions are whether the SPOLU coalition can be considered conservative and whether the...

März, Michäel ; Nečas, Vlastimil (advisor) ; Křeček, Jan (referee)
This thesis deals with the issue of compliance with the principles of objectivity in the broadcasting of Czech Television, namely its news program Události and a series of pre- election debates in the period of one month before the elections to the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Republic in autumn 2021. The research was carried out using the method of quantitative content analysis, the subject of which was the speeches of representatives of the candidate movements and parties, specifically their frequency and length across the both analyzed programs. The analysis was also interested in the presence of politicians' evaluations in the speeches of members of the Czech Television staff, the valence of the questions asked within the debates, the speeches of external speakers within the Události, but also thematic programs. and the space associated with them, which was provided to the individual candidate subjects in the monitored broadcast sample for expression.
The Polish model of the populist party: a new perspective on the populist radical right
Greger, Vojtěch ; Kofroň, Jan (advisor) ; Guasti, Petra (referee)
The Polish model of the populist party: a new perspective on the populist radical right Master's thesis Bc. Vojtěch Greger Abstract The rise of the populist radical right (PRR), a group of parties critical of the established norms of Western liberal democracy, in the 2010s, manifesting itself in events such as Brexit or the illiberal takeover of Hungary, has been a subject of considerable attention both from academics and the general public, and has been viewed with great concern. Academic studies of the PRR have often elevated the nativist elements in such parties' rhetoric while paying considerably less attention to the economic appeals thereof. However, in recent years, literature highlighting the importance of economic deprivation in fomenting support for Eurosceptic and PRR movements has begun to appear. This thesis is predicated on this literature's argument that the electoral successes of the PRR are very often driven precisely by economic deprivation and the discontent stemming from it. To illustrate our argument, we examine the electoral support of the Polish Law and Justice (PiS) party in the 2015 and 2019 elections using ordinary least squares regression (OLS) and geographically weighted regression (GWR). Our findings show that structural economic factors, mainly the share of workers employed in...

Regression study of economic indicators and political stability
ŽIŠKA, František
This thesis explores relationships among many different economic indicators and a change of leading party in a government. These relationships or influences maybe small and insignificant, or they can be statistically significant. Firstly, theoretical part explains how economics influence politics and vice versa. Secondly, theoretical part includes all economic indicators used in the analytical part of this thesis with some basic explanations of the indicators and some examples of a development of the said indicators. Next part of the thesis is methodology, where the collection of data is thoroughly explained, and all the analytical tools and practices are described there too. The last part, the practical part, focuses on using the tools mentioned in methodology to find a statistically significant relationship between the economic indicator and the change of presidency and resulting in a statement, which indicators influence elections the most. Apart from that, there is a code in Python which was used to create all the analysis in this paper.
