Employment of persons with disabilities in the Czech Republic

Approximately every tenth citizen in the Czech Republic suffers from a disability. Persons with disabilities form a vulnerable group in the labour market, which is caused mainly by a lower level of their education. Therefore, it is important that legislation protects the disabled persons and encourages employers to their employment. Employing of disabled people is in the interest of entire society and also has an integrative dimension. The main objective of this thesis is to assess comprehensively the legal regulation of the employment of persons with disabilities in the Czech Republic, to reflect recent amendments to applicable legislation and simultaneously to verify the premise that these regulations are satisfactory and feasible in practice. The thesis consists of four parts. The first part focuses on the basic definitions and states in which aspects some similar terms are identical or different. Special attention is paid to the definition of a "disabled person" in all its major forms. The second part deals with international and European regulation, by which the Czech Republic is bound and with which the national legislation must be in accordance. Employment of people with visual impairment

The thesis deals with employing visually impaired people and support for their employability in the labour market. The purpose of the work is to explain the issues connected with the employment, its possibilities and ways of support in this area aimed at visually impaired people. The empirical part is based on the assessment of conditions of participation of visually impaired people in retraining courses organised by Dědina Residential Physiotherapy and Retraining Centre for Visually Impaired People. Its verification was performed using the following methods: analysis of the specialist literature, interviews, analysis of the interviews, observation and interviews with the specialist staff. The research showed that retraining courses organised by Dědina Residential Physiotherapy and Retraining Centre for Visually Impaired People are an important means of support for employment of visually impaired people from all over the country. The established facts show that retraining of any specialisation is necessary in order to enable the target group to find a suitable job. Kateřina Svěcená, Ph.D. Topic: Prevocational rehabilitation in patients with spinal cord injury from the point of view of occupational therapist The thesis describes the current work rehabilitation and prevocational rehabilitation process in the Czech Republic and in the developed countries abroad. The theoretical part summarizes approaches toward the work rehabilitation and key findings from the vocational rehabilitation of patients with spinal cord injury in developed countries. The aim of the bachelor thesis is to ascertain the prevocational rehabilitation of patients with complete spinal cord injury and to identify appropriate methods suitable for the occupational therapists' assessment. The practical part follows the theoretical section by answering, how the current prevocational assessment looks like. It explains the process and approach toward the patients with spinal cord injury from the view of applicant and provider. Analyse of Protected Work-rooms with Regard to their Rise in Civic Sector and Trading Companies

Presented thesis deals with theme of protected employment of people with disabilities as one of the posssible ways of their integration into mainstream society. Unemployment, potential negative impacts of work in protected conditions and the risk of social exclusion are in this thesis presented as a social problem, in the solution of which are to some extent involved participants of all three sectors - the state as well as organizations of private profit- and non-profit sector. The theoretical part describes the current system of employment support for people with disabilities in our country and its effectiveness, and analyses the potential impact on lives of this group of citizens. The thesis also includes research conducted within protected workrooms, operated by the civic sector organizations and business companies. Its main objective is to determine whether and how the examined employers contribute to development of skills, vocational qualification and motivation of the disabled citizens for a possible moving into the open labor market and the mainstream society.
The Interconnection of Components of the Coordinated Rehabilitation to Individuals after the Cerebrovascular Accident.

Cerebrovascular accident (CVA, stroke) is a disease that affects the central nervous system. Many people, even younger in age, have suffered the stroke, and especially in developed countries. For adults it falls into the most common causes of disability. Greater attention is now focused on medical rehabilitation, but all the elements of rehabilitation are important. The status after stroke results in physical, psychological and social consequences. Therefore, early and coordinated rehabilitation is important, since it increases the possibility of the person´s integration. The diploma thesis aims to describe particular components of coordinated rehabilitation granted to the patients after the CVA in the treatment and rehabilitation centre Chvaly. More specifically, the author tries to analyse the coherence of the individual components of coordinated rehabilitation. In the theoretical part, the author focuses at first on the definition of the CVA, follows up with a general treatise about the coordinated rehabilitation, and then she specifies coordinated rehabilitation for patients after the CVA, and briefly describes the facility under examination. To achieve the objective there has been used qualitative research, the method of questioning, the technique of a semistructured interview. The research sample includes people after the CVA, and the staff of the treatment and rehabilitation centre Chvaly, applying specific elements of rehabilitation. Research indicates that in the examined centre they use therapeutic and social elements, where the treatment dominates. The treatment center puts emphasis on self-sufficiency of a person after the CVA, working with the family and a multidisciplinary team, which is also perceived by the clients after the CVA. The results of the diploma thesis can serve as a feedback for the examined treatment centre, they can be used to improve the quality of coordinated rehabilitation. This work can be used as a source of information for people after the CVA and their families.
Employment of people with schizophrenia

This bachelor thesis deals with employing people with the schizophrenia and its benefits to them. Topic: Employment of people with schizophrenia The theoretical part of the work describes schizophrenia, the stigma and prejudice associated with this disease and the importance of employment to people with mental illness; it also examines rehabilitation employment, especially supported employment, and mentions also a non-profit organization that helps people with schizophrenia to prepare and search for the employment. For my research, I used a qualitative strategy - semistructured interviews with the recipients of supported and temporary employment. Based on the analysis of these interviews, I try to answer questions about the importance of employment to people with schizophrenia disease. The aim of my bachelor thesis is to answer the research question: How important is to involve people with schizophrenia in daily life, especially by finding a suitable job.
Option for the occuptional rehabilitation of homeless people in The city of Prague

Degree work "The Possibilities of Work Rehabilitation For Homeless People Within the Area of the Capital City of Prague" brings forward a practical survey of possibilities of the work rehabilitation for this target group. The literary - survey part consists of a concise introduction into problems of the homelessness phenomenon, deals with the welfare state relationship towards the homeless people plus the relevant legislature and, last but not least, it mentions a list of services and organizations rendering help to homeless people. The most important part of the work focuses on personal investigation of work rehabilitation. It provides a detailed description of each organization and project rendering work rehabilitation with their final comparison based on information given to the author by experts working in these organizations.
