Lost and Found for a Family with a Child in the Final Stage of a Terminal Illness

This thesis describes the life of a family with a dying child. The objective of the thesis is to describe the experience of its members after the diagnosis has been decided, during treatment and after the child's decease. It discusses the phases of going through the disease and death of one's own child for the parents and other close persons and how such a critical event in a family's life changes its values and attitudes. The theoretical part of this thesis deals with experiencing of all stages of the child's disease by their closest persons and with the psychology of the ill child. In this context, it briefly describes the history and idea of care of the incurably ill and the possibility of family support provided by non- governmental organizations. The practical part of the thesis contains the findings of the qualitative research conducted using the phenomenology approach on how the parents supported the child in the terminal stage of their disease, what they went through during this difficult time of life and how they remember that time after certain time has elapsed. Respondents include the parents or closest persons of children aged over one year that deceased as a result of a malignant disease.
Psychosocial aspects of cancer in adults

Anotation: The diploma thesis " The Psychosocial Aspects of Cancer in Adults" deals with problems of the psychosocial aspects of the oncological disease and its command by adults patient.The theoretical part engages in individual phases of disease and its consequences of patient's life. It also deals with basic ethical problems which are connect with this disease. The theoretical-practical part states the basic forms and methods of supportive oncological care and it demonstrates the propsal for its classification. The practical part is elaborated by the form of interviews. The first interview was accomplished with the hospital chaplain woman and the following interviews with oncological female patiens. The main aim of the thesis is to alert to problems of the psychosocial disease aspects whose solution should be the inseparable component of the complex oncological care.
Relationship between the state and selected NGOs in the field of providing paliative care in the Czech Republic

The aim of the thesis is to describe the role of a sample of NGOs in the process of changing the current situation in the field of palliative care in the Czech Republic. The essence of palliative care is to ensure the highest possible quality of life for the patient and his family. The present state of care is not sufficient for the number of palliative beds or home care service teams to meet the needs of an aging Czech population. Almost the exclusive care provider are NGOs, which also take on the role of initiator of a change in the persistent situation. Based on the data from semi-structured interviews with ten respondents, the thesis method of the case study reveals what is causing the unsatisfactory situation, what proposals its solutions civil society offers and what range of means to achieve change.
Development of hospice-palliative care with focus on Germany and the Czech Republic

Vývoj hospicové paliativní péče se zaměřením na Německo a Českou Republiku Development of hospice-palliative care with focus on Germany and the Czech Republic Ruth Kubíčková The aim of the thesis was to map the development, crucial moments and current .shape of hospice-palliative care and simultaneously confirm the thesis that the care of spiritual feature of dying persons has been an integral part of organized development of hospice care since its beginning and nowadays, it is still one of its principal themes. The first chapter deals with branch terminology since its clear definition is essential, not only for dialogue inside the system of palliative care providers and experts, but for interdisciplinary communication and cooperation which is - according to the definition of palliative care - the foundation of its holistic approach to patients. The second and third chapters are concerned with the development of nursing care since the ancient times to the diversification of modern hospice-palliative care at the end of the twentieth century. They deduce that the Christianity, with its central commandment to love thy neighbour as thyself, has changed the attitude to care of suffering persons, both in the nursing care and in shapes and ways of providing care. Training and Education of Volunteers in the Home Hospice "Cesta domů" - the Homecoming

The issue of death and dying affects everyone, it is not easy and yet a natural part of everyone's life. Hospice care offers help and support a dying man and his close on the last trip "home". This thesis describes the possibilities of a preparatory course for the volunteers who play an irreplaceable role in hospice care. The practical part describes the specific example from the conditions of the Czech home hospice - The Home Coming, which is being commented on the ground of literature and my personal experience. The outcome of the research is the feedback for the management of the home hospice - The Home Coming, including recommendations for changes of the preparatory course.
Institutional care of seniors in The Czech Republic

This thesis deals with the issue of institutional care for the elderly in the country. The main goal of this work was to perform a general discourse in the current state of institutional care for the elderly in the country. The secondary objective is to suggest a possible application of special educationalists within accomodational services for health and social services. The main research method was used the analysis and compilation of 168 expert papers. The work is internally divided into seven chapters. The first one deals with the methodology and objectives of the work. The second presents data on age and aging. The third is focused on general aspects of institutional care. The fourth chapter introduces the reader to the current state of health services with a focus on hospice. The fourth chapter discusses the social services especially for elderly homes. The fifth chapter deals with the care of the dying senior and sixth chapter presents the author's conception of a possible application of special educationalists within the accomodational and health services. Role of Occupational Therapist in Palliative Care

Caring for dying patients dates back to the beginnings of medicine, although Palliative Medicine is described as a new discipline. The question of death and dying is taboo topic, even though the need for this care continues to increase. Palliative Care is provided through professional Palliative Team, which also includes Occupational Therapist. The aim of this thesis is to determine the possible intervention of Occupational Therapy in palliative care and to contribute to the literature on this issue. The theoretical part defines the concept of palliative care and there are key aspects. Thesis has been devoted to rehabilitation and palliative care, occupational therapy intervention, including specific examples of interventions in selected common symptoms of Palliative Patients. The practical part describes how to provide Palliative Care in the United Kingdom. Subsequently, there is described situation in the Czech Republic for comparison. For data collection methods there were used interview and observation. The conclusion of this work is to confirm that the Occupational Therapist has an important place in the Palliative Care team. The Hospice Volunteer - the Specifics of Recruitment and Education

The thesis is describing the situation with volunteering programs at hospices. It is analyzing the process of recruitment, professional grow and managing volunteers directly involved with hospice clients. The document is summing up real life application of volunteers work at hospice, pointing out key aspects of the work at the specific environment of provided services of hospice. All texts are based on published professional literature and data provided by qualitative research providing most point of views of participating personal - volunteers and coordinators. In the first part you will find specifications of the volunteer hiring and education from organization point of view here represented by the coordinators. The second part describes the qualitative data research, providing volunteer's point of view on the same process. The research itself is targeting to provide the key moments of the volunteer's work at hospice organizations. It provides over all view of the main motivators of the work and on the other hand describes death with understanding and placing it as part of human life while showing its place in the society.
