The Eternal Boyhood of Jiří Karásek ze Lvovic

The thesis attempts to describe the life and work of Jiří Karásek ze Lvovic through an analysis of his lifestyle, i.e. the way in which he organized, embellished and individualized his life. Karásek sought to shape his existence as an artwork, in accordance with the inspirational concepts of the contemporary and antecedent thinkers and artists (e.g. Oscar Wilde, Walter Pater and Maurice Maeterlinck). He accented its integrity and orientation towards beauty. In accord with his aesthetic vision (and his literary work) Karásek conditioned beauty with sadness and pain and attempted to emphasize melancholic beauty, unity in disunion. For that purpose he would accentuate particularly the disintegrative, critical elements, evoking the impression of unsuccessful, self-destructive endeavor to reach life's high ideal. This corresponded with his tragic concept of the artist immolating himself for his Art. I approach Karásek's lifestyle through the use of the terms youth and (eternal) boyhood, which Karásek himself employed as symbols of mournfully beautiful existence in his literary work. Edition of selected correspondence of Bohuslav Balbín and Alois Hackenschmidt with a commentary and an introductory study

The thesis deals with the mutual correspondence (with its part from the years 16641667) of a Jesuit Bohuslav Balbín (16211688) and a Premonstratensian Johannes Alois Hackenschmidt (16261683), a canon of monastery of Teplá and a secretary of abbot Rajmund Wilfert (†1670). Preserved correspondence of that time consists of 41 Balbín's and 39 Hackenschmidt's letters. Hackenschmidt was sending information of the history of monasteries of Teplá and Chotěšov and transcripts and excerpts of charters found in archives of these monasteries; Balbín was informing Hackenschmidt about the past of the Lords of Guttenstein. The thesis brings information on the life of both correspondents, summarizes the content of their correspondence and comments on their relationship. Finally, eight Balbín's and six Hackenschmidt's letters, provided by a commentary, are edited in the final part of the work.

Interpretation of Tadeáš Biron's poetry selection Neviditelné slunce

The thesis deals with a collection of poems named Neviditelné slunce (The Invisible Sun) by a Czech poet Tadeáš Biron (which is a pen name of František Kouřil). The author attempts to identify the fundamental features of Biron's poetry. She covers the recurrent motifs, themes and intertextual references present in Biron's work. The autobiographical elements, manifested in the poems, are also taken into account, on the basis of the author's correspondence with his friend J. Červenka. The thesis tries to provide a more profound understanding of Tadeáš Biron's perception of poetry and his use of linguistic and compositional means and imagery. It also attempts to identify the sources of the poems' effect.

The Letters by Jakub Deml to Jaroslav Durych

The thesis contains an annotated edition of the letters of Jakub Deml (1878-1961) of his long- time friend and writer Jaroslav Durych (1886-1962). More than 150 letters and dozens of postcards document the relationship between the two writers in two periods (years 1906-1909 and 1916-1959). The first era of correspondence documents their translation cooperation and own production and views on contemporary literary and social conditions as well. The literary studies connected to the edition also describes two major differences between these creators. In the second period was the most intense correspondence in the twenties of the 20th century. The authors worked closely together and share in the correspondence also events of their personal lives. In 1931 My testimony about Otokar Březina caused a split among friends. Then the correspondence has never fully restored. The dispute was then moved to the pages of periodicals and books, about which one of the chapters of the study inform. The edition is accompanied by editorial comment, an inventory sheet, an index of names and explanations, in which the reader reads some of Durych's reactions and learn other relevant circumstances correspondence.

The Reflection of the Nobility on Servants in the Early Modern Resources

The aim of Bachelor thesis is analysis of relationships of Czech nobility with its servants, disputes between them and their life in the aristocratic residence. Although the Czech historians are interested in Czech early modern nobility, they haven't devoted to this topic. The thesis is based on analysis of published sources (primarily of the ego-documents) and specialized literature (mainly literature of "the South-Czech historic school"). The aim is to focus on people, who didn't perform bureaucratic functions, so, the main task is the analysis of the reflection of the nobility on Servants, who were socially unequal with it. Correspondence of abbess Dorothy from Krumlov

The article focuses on Dorota from Krumlov and her activity in the posts of abbess of two convents – the convent of Poor Clares in Panenský Týnec and the Benedictine convent of Saint George in the Prague Castle. It describes the historical context and explains the possible transfer of abbess among the monastic communities. The largest space is dedicated to the linguistic analysis of the remaining letters of Dorota from Krumlov from the both convents – through phonology and morphology gets to the stylistic level.
