Conceptualization of emotions in the Czech Sign Language (On the example of anger)

This thesis is focused on the conceptualisation of emotions in Czech Sign Language with the emphasis on the linguistic conceptualisation of anger. At the beginning the author reveals basic theoretical issues of the cognitive linguistics of spoken and sign linguistics. Afterwards she presents some general facts about metaphor and metonymy in spoken and sign languages - with the main focus on the metaphorical-metonymic conceptualisation of anger - and shows metaphors and metonymies of anger in the English, Polish and Czech language. The core of the thesis consists of the linguistic research of anger in Czech Sign Language. The author identifies basic metaphors and metonymies of the concept of ANGER in Czech Sign Language within the empirically gained linguistic material. The gained data from all four languages are compared and presented in a table at the end of this paper. Entrance level of interpreting and language skills of interpreters of sign language

This bachelor's thesis deals with description of language qualification in czech language and czech sign language, description of interpreter's skills of sign language interpreters corresponding with B2 level according to Common European Framework of Reference for languages (CEFR). Its aim is to create the test which tests the level of langauge qualification and interpreter's skills on the base of obtained information and its subsequent using in practice and also support a general discussion about various ways of testing of sign language interpreters. and cooperation among deaf people organizations and professional organizations in our country. Spatial cognition of users of spoken Czech and Czech Sign Language: How cross-linguistic diversity affects non-linguistic thought

The thesis focuses on how different languages influence spatial cognition of their speakers, i. e., whether and how the differences in spatial language (linguistic representation of perspective, location, spatial scenes etc.) affect the non-linguistic spatial reasoning (orientation, spatial memory etc.). This issue has for a long time been a part of the studies of the relation between language and thouhgt under the flag of so called Sapir-Whorf hypothesis/Hypothesis of linguistic relativity. In the first half of the theoretical part of the thesis, I attempt to summarize the history of the concept of linguistic relativity since 1950s and to revise some critical claims about linguistic relativity by re-reading Whorf's works (chapter 2). The second half of the theoretical part (chapter 3) focuses in particular on the research of the interrelations between spatial thought and language. In section 3.1, I make a brief note on the notion of space in terms of cognitive linguistics. Section 3.2 provides an selective overview of the previous research of the crosslinguic spatial-cognitive diversity. Sections 3.3 and 3.4 connect the theoretical and the empirical part of the thesis. Learning Czech language in the 1 - 3 grade of elementary schools for hearing impaired - description of current situation and potentiality of innovation

This thesis is focused on problems of teaching in school subject Czech Language in 1 - 3 grade of elementary schools for hearing impaired. The whole issue is put into the theoretical framework, which delimit specify of hearing impaired pupils education and the goals which this pupils should achieve in elementary education and primarily in language education too. Special attention is paid to problems of teaching reading and writing - ways to acquiring reading literacy in hearing impaired pupils. Presented are methods of teaching reading and writing and I am thinking about their applicability in hearing impaired pupils education. Is given an idea of teaching in school subject Czech Language in Elementary schools for hearing impaired in history (1948 - 1990), in detail I analyze teaching materials used in that time. Current situation of teaching in school subject Czech Language is describe on the grounds of research probe realized in school year 2011/2012 on four selected elementary schools for hearing impaired in the Czech Republic. Frequency analysis of handshapes in selected Czech sign language dictionaries

in English This work focuses primarily on the handshapes and their frequency in the selected Czech sign language dictionaries. The main aim was to analyze the occurence of handshapes in two types of Czech sign language dictionaries (general and terminology) and compare them. A secondary aim was to analyze the handshapes of active and passive hand in these dictionaries and to analyze types of signs. The last aim was to get information about handshapes in foreign sign languages and compare their most frequent handshapes with my analysis results.

Written Texts of Czech Deaf

The topic of the dissertation is the communication of the deaf in written Czech. The theoretical part presents the studies of written Czech for the deaf which have been carried out in the Czech Republic so far, considers the causes of difficulties the deaf encounter when making Czech written texts, and deals with the position of written Czech in the education of the deaf. The next part is devoted to the Czech sign language, the characteristics of its specifics and its role in the communication and education of deaf pupils, especially in connection with the currently valid legislation. Attention is also focused on the components and construction of narrative texts and on the acquisition of narrative competencies in spoken and sign languages. The research part is focused on the qualitative analysis of narrative texts in Czech, the authors of which are deaf pupils of two primary schools for the hearing impaired aged 14 to 16, and which were created on the basis of a picture story. As part of the analysis of written narratives, attention is focused on the specific features which make the written texts of the deaf different from the texts written by hearing Czechs. Comparison of Sign Language Interpreters'Education Systems in the Czech Republic and the Great Britain

The bachelor thesis deals with the comparison of sign language interpreters' education systems in the Czech Republic and Great Britain. The objective is a comparison of possibilities, availability and quality of sign language interpreters' education in said countries. The thesis attempts to evaluate and define the main differences between the systems and subsequent submission of possible changes for the sign language education system in the Czech Republic. The theoretical part briefly describes the basic concepts and terminology in connection to hearing impairment that is relevant for the topic, the specifics of the Czech Sign Language, British Sign Language and International Sign as well as the comparison of sign language interpreters' education in the Czech Republic and Great Britain. The research part is processed by quantitative research, specifically in the form of an anonymous survey and concentrates on the analysis of the current situation through the eyes of the interpreters themselves. The thesis output is an evaluation of the survey together with the submission of proposals for possible modifications of the current czech sign language interpreters' educational system in the Czech Republic.

Reading books in pupils with hearing impairment

This diploma thesis deals with the reading of pupils with hearing impairment, popularity of reading books at the 2nd level of primary school for the hearing impaired based on their specifics, which arise from their disability. Firstly, the thesis is devoted to reading literacy and reading in general, its anchoring in education and the view of hearing impairment in two disciplines. The thesis also describes the best-known research on reading literacy and reading. After that, reading and reading literacy topics are closely focused on pupils with hearing impairment, which is also closely related to the issue of acquiring the language of the majority among people with hearing impairment also due to the differences between Czech language and Czech sign language. Furthermore, the analysis of data and interpretation of the results of the research carried out at primary schools for the hearing impaired by means of questionnaires for pupils and their teachers is included. Some of the specifics typical for deaf pupils in relation to reading can be deduced from the outcomes of the research, but also the same elements that were found when compared with the research of reading by the hearing pupils in the Czech Republic.

Specific cooperation of hearing and deaf employees in the organization Tichy svet, o. p. s.

The dissertation deals with the particularities of a mutual cooperation of hearing and deaf employees of the institution Tichý svět, o.p.s. The dissertation is divided into the theoretical and the application part. The theoretical part is dedicated for the theme of the culture in the general concept, the culture of the organisation, and culture of the deafs. The thesis also deals with diversity management and communication in organizational management, focusing on communication in the intercultural team and description of the deaf communication systems. The theoretical part focuses, in its conclusion, on the team and teamwork, on conflicts and their solutions in the cotext of diversity management. The objective of the application part was to analyze situations where there is a misunderstanding between the hearing and the deaf employees of the organization and to describe the specifics of this cooperation. At the end of the thesis the finding are discussed and recommendations made for the organization, which are aimed to avoid misunderstanding. Mouthings in Czech Sign Language

The bachelor's thesis focuses on mouthings in Czech Sign Language. The base research material is taken from the facebook group Zábava pro neslyšící v ČR and from the TV program Televizní klub neslyšících. According to Czech and English written literature, the theoretical part sums up knowledge of forms, functions and the status of mouthings. The research part is focused on a description of forms and functions of mouthings in Czech Sign Language. The main goal of the form description is to analyse a frequency of mouthings in Czech Sign Language, the main goal of the function description is to make a list of manual homonyms.
