Press and cultural politics in pardubice region in times of normalization

This dissertation gives a comprehensive picture of the press organs of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia in the district of Pardubice during the so-called normalization. The first chapter describes the historical contexts of this era, particularly changes in policy after the onset of Gustáv Husák at the head of the Communist Party in April 1969. With this change is related to another topic: extensive purges in the Communist Party, which took place in 1970. The second chapter focuses on changes in the media at the beginning of normalization, in particular the abolition of some periodicals and restoring censorship, and changes in the cultural field, especially strengthening the focus on the Soviet Union, the emergence of new artists' unions and various legal regulation in order to strengthen ideological supervision of the this sphere . The third and fourth sections are devoted East Bohemian press: daily newspaper Pochodeň, published in Hradec Králové, and Pardubice district newspaper Zář. It briefly describes the history of these newspapers and their effect during the Prague Spring and subsequent developments in normalization. Two 1939 Soviet-German Pacts and Their Reflection in the Press of the Protectorate Bohemia and Moravia Abstract The main aim of the thesis is to analyze the reflection of the Soviet-German relations in the Czech legal press of the Protectorate Bohemia and Moravia at the time of the outbreak of the Second World War when the Ribbentrop-Molotov non-aggression pact (23 August 1939) and of the treaty of borders and friendship (27 September 1939) transformed the character of the international relations in the Central and Eastern Europe. At first, the text concentrates on analysis of the contemporaneous circumstances both in terms of international relations in Europe and in terms of internal domestic policies in the protectorate. In the following part, the author discusses the protectorate press response to the two German-Soviet treaties as well as the press attitudes to a number of other related issues such as the Soviet-Japanese conflict in Mongolia. The thesis is based on research of a series of Czech protectorate dailies, namely A- Zet, České slovo, Národní práce, Venkov a Vlajka. However, it also takes into account two illegal Czech periodicals, the magazine V boj and the Communist illegal newspaper Rudé právo.
The evolutionof the picture of interpreter in selected international and Czech medias

The thesis focuses on the image of interpreter and interpretation in Czech printed media from 1990 to 2012. It aims to explore how interpreters present themselves in media, how journalists present interpreters and whether that image is accepted or not by the public. The thesis consists of two parts. The theoretical part focuses on methods of media and discourse analysis, definition of interpretation, formation of interpreters and professional associations in the Czech Republic. Empirical part analyses more than 800 articles about interpretation and analyses the discourse of Czech media during the period of twenty years. Analysis showed that the discourse changes constantly and the point of view of interpreters on their profession is different from the discourse created by journalists. Empirical part contains a survey which showed, that public opinion on interpreters is different from observed discourse of the media.

Technologies together with so-called new media are one of the most important matters of contemporary media studies and mass communication theory. Many experts focus on their impact and try to find out and describe their effects on audience, media content, work of journalists or professional methods etc. Considering new technologies and regarding formation of absolutely new on-line medium we can ask how journalistic genres cope with fast evolution in the field of media. As the time goes, genres can change, which may be caused by many factors. New technologies, innovations and especially new medium can take part in such process. This thesis focuses on shift of Czech news service genre composition and formation of new journalist standards in press due to the new technologies introduced into media production in years 1989-1995. It also concerns with historical context and social changes after 1989. After all, these changes together with media transformation into liberal democratic model had an essential impact on news making as well as innovations and modernization of newsrooms. Struggle between Slovak Democratic Party and Communist Party of Slovakia after the 1946 elections and its image in contemporary media

The bachelor thesis Struggle between Slovak Democratic Party and Communist Party of Slovakia after the 1946 elections and its image in contemporary media deals with the situation both on political and medial scene of Czechoslovakia during the period of two post-war years. It follows up characteristics of the changes in the political structure of Czechoslovakia, which were the result of the recently concluded World War II. Together with changes in the political scene also describes changes that took place in the area of the media industry. As a demonstration of this fact it shows the mode of covering of particular periodicals of both sides of the conflict. It's trying to explain how were the actual political events presented by periodicals and what was the method of assaulting on political competitors. The crucial part of this work deals with the content analysis of periodicals of both sides of the conflict and it concerns its results. It uses comparative analysis of two dailies and two weeklies and shows the ways of reporting on actual political events and the differences between Communist (daily Rudé právo, weekly Tvorba) and Democratic (daily Čas, weekly Demokratický týždenník) medias. This disertation called "Loyal Guard in years 1946 to 1948, a weekly magazine of the Association of the Czechs from Volhynia" describes the development of the interest magazine of the Czechs from Volhynia in its first three years. The paper shortly portrays the history of the Czech from Volhynia - departure from the czech country, their lives in Volhynian part of the Ukraine a postwar re-emigration to the Czechoslovakia. Main part of the disertation centers on establishing nonpolitical and nonparty organisation called the Association of the Czech from Volhynia and its official magazine as a reaction to the topical problems of the Czechs who returned after the World War Two. It focuses on the content of the magazine, the profile of its regular sections, the most important subjects it printed (re-emigration, settlement a adaptation) and major anniversaries of the Czech from Volhynia (the burn-out of Český Malín, the battle of Dukla). The Compasrison of the language of Communistic and Nazi Propaganda in the Editiorials and Selected Columns of newspaper Rudé právo and the Newspaper Venkov 1941

This bachelor thesis compares the language used in the persuasive texts promoting communistic and national-socialistic ideology. After brief introduction the author focuses on key-words in both languages; the word "lid" (people) in the communistic language and the word "národ" (nation) in the national-socialistic language. It compares the way, how those words are used, and the aim which their usage should serve. It deals with those terms as with the means of legitimization, which is achieved through using the strategies of rationalization, universalisation and narrativization. Then, this thesis searches for secondary signification which is connected with those key-words. Furthermore, it investigates the terms with which are those key-words connected. This thesis is based on knowledge of the communistic language, which is in the author's opinion described better. The results of investigation of the national-socialistic language are then compared to the facts known about communistic language.
Reflection in period newspapers of Czech directors of the sixties in the time of their return after the enforced work break

The thesis finds out the manner and the range of reviewing comeback of directors and their new films after enforced work break during the Czechoslovak normalization. For the purpose of the research were chosen articles published in 4 daily newspapers, concerning Rudé právo, Mladá fronta, Lidová demokracie a Zemědělské noviny, and 3 special film periodicals Záběr, Kino and Film a doba. These periodicals were examined in period from 1974 to 1979, in the period of comeback of all chosen directors, starting with Věra Chytilová, Jiří Menzel, Hynek Bočan and ending with Juraj Jakubisko and František Vláčil. These daily newspapers occasionally publish the critics, by contrast the film periodicals review Czech and Slovak films very often wit reportages, critics, interview or short reporting. The evaluation of directors and their films depended on several aspects: first of all on the behavior of directors and attitude to socialistic state and politics, on the author of literature artwork (in case of novels for example), on characteristic of socialistic society presented by films and also on the author of certain critic. Results of libel in press in the relation to the relevant moral rights especially in the area of private law in the Czech Republic

This graduation thesis, entitled "Results of libel in press in the relation to the relevant moral rights especially in the area of private law in the Czech Republic" examines press interference into relevant moral rights. The first chapter describes the historical foundations of personal rights protection, as well as their international and European connections. The second chapter discusses the power of media, and the means used for its maintenance and strengthening. In the third chapter, an outline of motivations for publication of news press, which balance between righteousness and libel. In the fourth chapter, an assessment of the clash between freedom of speech and protection of privacy, which are categories guaranteed in the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. The content of the fifth chapter is fundamental because it provides a thorough analysis of the law which governs personal rights, with a focus on the civil code, press law and procedural rules. The sixth chapter brings sight of rules established by autoregulation. It deals with self- censorship, the journalist's code of ethics, self-controlling authorities and so on.
