Paradoxes of liberal liberty: revision of the classical assumptions of freedom
Kolínský, Ondřej ; Mlčoch, Lubomír (advisor) ; Skuhrovec, Jiří (referee)
Current criticism of liberalism is usually based on ad hoc economic and social arguments. In this bachelor thesis, on the contrary, we seek to verify to what extent the very core of the classical liberal doctrine is consistent with the findings of modern economics. In the first part, we examine the writings of the fathers of economic liberalism; Jeremy Bentham, John Stuart Mill and Friedrich August von Hayek. On their grounds, we describe and specify the type of liberty this paper is concerned with. Also, we show what beliefs these philosophers held regarding the question of human rationality. In the second part, we provide some philosophical background to the question of freedom and explain how it is interconnected with rationality. Finally, in the third part, we draw some empirical findings from behavioral economics, which aims at explaining the disparity between preferences and actual decisions of people. By contrasting these discoveries with the original liberal ideas, we are able to identify specific points, where the classical theorists incline to misleading beliefs. The aim of this paper is to assess how grave the implications of these errors are and how they could be addressed within the framework of liberalism. We also estimate their impact on the market interaction and examine possible...
Pseudoauthenticity of live feeds in tv broadcast
Menšíková, Iva ; Lokšík, Martin (advisor) ; Šmíd, Milan (referee)
My bachelor's dissertation is dedicated to the problems of live shots in television news, specifically to the pseudoauthenticity of live shots. It means that I concentrate on a form and amount of live shots in main news programmes of three major TV stations in the Czech Republic (Czech television, Nova and Prima Family). At first, I am going to describe theoretical findings that relates to the topic and that are necessary for understanding the whole problem - including the live shot in the news, text, locality and reporter of the live shot. I am going to explain that live shots are also a part of infotainment. The goal of my dissertation is to demonstrate that the live shots are used too frequently and the reason for its inclusion is not always relevant. Of course I pay attention also to the content of the live shots - if it brings new, actual information that could not be in pre-recorded report or if the live shot mediate the atmosphere from the place of the event. I answer these questions thanks to few examples which show that the live shot often does not bring any added value despite it tries to look like that. Apart from my own research I am interested in the opinion of the spectators - how they see the amount of live shots in television news, if they think live shots are more credible or if...

Czech on website of discount servers
Ihnatsenia, Hanna ; Hoffmannová, Jana (advisor) ; Starý Kořánová, Ilona (referee)
This thesis deals with the complex characteristics of communication that occurred on the webpages of the discount servers during Fall 2011 - Spring 2012 capturing specific combination of both, professional and word-of-mouth, advertising styles. Advertising texts produced by the advertising agent could be described as informative and persuasive with entertaining elements of gameplay and humor. Informative function is being realized by means of professional style (e.g. using words of foreign origin) associated with seriousness and literary expression, and by means of preparing different forms of advertising texts and publicity on the Internet. Realization of persuasive function happens through informal and direct communication using salutations, imperatives, emoticons, slang and domesticized terminology of foreign origin, and through presence of Czech spoken speech in these texts. Dialogue between agents and customers occurs in corresponding internet forums that is certain mixture of correct and neutral opinion on one hand and manipulative, exaggerated, emotional and often ungrammatical expressions on the other hand. Moreover, the names of these discount servers are formed in terms of word formation (e.g. Slevomat, Slevopolis, Vykupto, Zapakatel, Nebeslev, Mydeals, etc.) describing their motivation....

Zicháčková, Adéla ; Šoltys, Otakar (advisor) ; Klabíková Rábová, Tereza (referee)
- Zicháčková Abstract In the bachelor thesis named Newspaper headlines in the light of pragmatic linguistics the newspaper healines are considered to be individual but indispensable parts of newspaper articles. My thesis presents them closely connected with the following text. I am interested in the meanings behind the words. We do not usually pay attention to those meanings but we perceive them and they influence us. There exist some hidden manipulative techniques as well. My work tries to reveal them. My thesis consists of four major chapters. The first chapter is an introduction to newspaper headlines. The second chapter is dedicated to structuralism (without structuralism we cannot continue to pragmatics). The third chapter is focused on pragmatics as well as the concepts of the Gricean maxims or intertextuality. And in the final chapter I deal with the pragmatic analysis. My thesis is based on many books and scientific articles. I analyze three daily newspapers: Blesk, Mladá fronta DNES and Hospodářské noviny.

Zapotilová, Mariana ; Láb, Filip (advisor) ; Turek, Pavel (referee)
Graduation thesis entitled "Confrontation of work of photo editors in selected Czech and American periodicals" discusses the important profession of photo editors in the Czech Republic and the United States and attempts to compare it in these two different countries. In the first part I would like to briefly outline the history of photojournalism in the Czech Republic and the United States and describe the aspects which influenced it during two centuries. In the next chapter I focus on notions, since not everyone is familiar with the position and powers of newspaper photo editors, and the types of photographs the journalism operates with. Here I explain the emergence of the profession which is much younger than actual photojournalism. In the research section I want to - through the use of interviews with several professional photographers and photo editors - explain the various procedures and newsroom routines. I focus mainly on the habits and processes, that go before the capturing the photograph, and subsequent decision-making process in selecting images for the newspapers. I also briefly compare the problems of education and training in the field of visual journalism. In one of the chapters I turn to the newspaper photo captions and on the basis of illustrative examples I try to answer the question how...
The persuative power of the yellow press: Could the Czech and Slovak yellow press has influenced the resulta of the Czech and Slovak Idol?
Šťastný, Michal ; Šoltys, Otakar (advisor) ; Hronová, Tereza (referee)
Information on the marketability of the yellow press or tabloid media reveal that the yellow press is the strongest type of printed periodical media. It is therefore clear that this media have a big impact. My thesis seeks to evaluate the persuasive power of the media regarding the opinions of customers and consumers. To substantiate or refute claims that the tabloid media has persuasive power, I chose StarDance IV as a case study. Audience of this competition send their votes to support the dance couples performing during the contest stage. In a world with no yellow press, the basic television audience of this show would appreciate each performance strictly for what it is, and with their own non professionnal criterias: an esthetic and emotional judgement of people they only know through what the program choses to show of them. With yellow press, the audience is offered to judge these people according to new information that yellow press can chose to reveal and broadcast to improve or damage the popularity of individuals. The paper asks whether, when this happened, the dance couple could end the contest due to the negative coverage in the media. Interest on this media is explained by classical psychoanalysis and its concept of the conflict of three components of personality, as defined by Sigmund...
