Mircea Eliade - Narrator - Initiator. The Initiation Dimension of His Fantastic Prose
Mikulová, Tamara ; Valentová, Libuše (advisor) ; Šrámek, Jiří (referee) ; Vajdová, Libuša (referee)
Our work is devoted to the Romanian philosopher and author of fantastic prose, Mircea Eliade. The unique feature of his fiction lies in the narrative building upon the initiating structure, and reflecting the mythological consciousness, which is perceived by the author as a means of escaping historical relativism. In order to analyse his work we applied the hermeneutic approach, which is in our view best suited for interpretation of Eliade's prose. The hermeneutic approach shows that the author-narrator assumes the function of a religious initiator, who is in possession of a vision of the world and conveys it to his readers. The initiated author can see a different world, a possible world that surpasses the material one, and he is able to bring this vision, inexpressible by words, to the reader. Thus, the process of reading and analysing such a text then turns into gradual initiation into the secrets of existence through its esoteric dimension. Eliade's aim in his fantastic prose is to show that even in the desecrated world the sacred is hidden anywhere and a man is still able to reveal it anytime. Key words: Eliade, initiation, narrator, symbol, sense, hermeneutics, imagination, inner and outer face of literature, sacred, profane, reality, death initiation, dramatic performance, salvation,...
From Descates' Mind to Kant's Reason
Dekastello, Petr ; Hill, James (advisor) ; Palkoska, Jan (referee)
The basic subject-matter of my research is R. Descartes' Meditations On First Philosophy and I examine the term intellect and its position within the mind and its relation to thought. My work includes a study of sensation and imagination which provide the intellect with "material" to judge. The objective of my thesis is to demonstrate the role the intellect plays in terms of reason and to present an interpretation of the way in which the mind is designated in relation to reason according to Rene Descartes in his writing and in his responses to objections. The position and functions of the intellect are understood as a logical structure of mutual dependence and as the elements essential for the understanding of the human soul substance. At the end of my thesis I demonstrate that the system of reason of R. Descartes might be considered as the basis for the transcendental conception of reason in Kant's philosophy, which leads to an idealistic world conception and is founded on thinking a priori. Hamplová, Kateřina ; Arbanová, Linda (advisor) ; Hůla, Zdenek (referee)
Hamplová, K.; Transformations of roles and significations of object and material in a visual game. [Diploma thesis] Prague 2014 - Charles University, Faculty of education, 99 pages In my thesis I examine the process of transformation of roles and significations of object and material in visual games. I focus on the game as the experiment with characteristics of objects. I explore using objects and materials as the instruments for opening fictional worlds. A brief outline of the theories of perception of objects and their significations and theories of games and fictional worlds illustrates the base of the theme. Various views on the alterations of significations in creative process are illustrated with a selection of works of contemporary artists. In the didactic part I examine the characteristic position of the make-believe games in the development of a child and possible applications of those characteristics in art education. I also describe the design and realization of my didactic project dealing with this issue there. The applied part of my thesis is a natural extension and application of the thoughts delineated in the theoretic part. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
