Elimination of Barriers in Programmes of Czech Television for People with a Hearing Disability

(in English): This bachelor thesis deals with closed subtitles as a means to remove barriers in terms of access to programmes broadcasted by Czech Television for viewers with hearing disabilities. The theoretical part provides a general view at the target audience and their communication specifics that may affect their closed subtitles usage. Attention is also paid to the statutory framework which sets out the obligation to provide a certain percentage of broadcasted programmes with closed subtitles and to the extent of fulfillment of the legal obligations. The possibilities of providing pre-recorded programmes with closed subtitles are discussed as well. The practical part reports a research probe focused on the satisfaction of hearingimpaired viewers with services of Czech Television.

Předmětem práce je popsat proměnu, kterou hlavní zpravodajská relace České televize Události prošla po nástupu nového vedení generálního ředitele Petra Dvořáka. Text se bude soustředit na popsání změn z hlediska obsahu i formy. Zaměří se na také na používání jednotlivých žurnalistických žánrů, které je možné v televizním zpravodajství uplatnit. Cílem je nabídnout komplexní pohled na Události, zasadit je do kontextu českého mediálního prostředí a zároveň porovnat jejich podobu se zahraničními zpravodajskými relacemi. Práce má poukázat na trendy, které určují světové zpravodajské špičky a které mají potenciál obohatit české televizní zpravodajství. Závěr bude věnován srovnání staré a nové relace Události a vyhodnocení, zda byla její proměna úspěšná. K tomu poslouží data o postupném vývoji sledovanosti a ohlasy z řad odborné veřejnosti na novou podobu pořadu.
Comparison of the structures of new reports on ČT and tv Nova in the first and second quarter 2012

The bachelor thesis compares the consturction of the reports in the main news programs on the Czech Television and Tv Nova. The source is the broadcasting of "Události" and "Televizní noviny" for two weeks during the first half of 2012. The theoretical part contains the terms of the areas that have some influence on the usage of the typical elements.. The chapter on operational factors has the similar importance. A brief description of the media focusing on personnel changes is also included as well as more detailed description of the individual elements. The practical part presents four chapters with reduced results of quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis of selected elements /"Full natural sound" and "Stand-up"/. The following comparison is divided into three parts: first two compare the changes during the semester in each broadcast; the third part is dedicated to both programs in the second period.
TV-debate - argumentation and persuasion: Václav Moravec questioning's case study

The diploma thesis presents own research method for examination of speech formations. It focuses on examination of televised political debates. The method applied here may be characterized as an organized hermeneutic analysis of political discourse. Through the application of an analytical - philosophical approach (e.g. application of the theory of maxima, illocutionary acts evaluation, and analysis of arguments and verification of their truthfulness), the method allows us to establish objective facts of the debate as well as some personal features of debate participants. To examine texts, the theoretical knowledge of distinguished authors (J. J. Austin, K. Bayer, T. A. van Dijk, N. Fairclough, H. P. Grice, J. Habermas, J. Kraus, G. N. Leeche, J. R. Searl, and others) have been made use of. In addition to the literary survey, the thesis also includes the argumentation in respect of selection of the method, selection of talk shows, transcript of debates from TV records, transformation of the text into an analysable form, and research methodology. Transformations of the evening news Události and regional news of ČT since 2007 to 2012

The main aim of the master thesis Transformations of the evening news Události and regional news of ČT since 2007 to 2012 was to introduce news in context of normative theories, television news in context of Czech Republic, their development and current conditions. Theoretical frame of the thesis was political economy of communication, outlining the background of news production, and contributing to understand news issues. Essential part of the thesis was the combination of quantitative and qualitative analysis used as a tool for examining news objectivity at evening and regional news of public television Česká televize since 2007 to 2012, its development and differences between evening and regional news. Objectivity was researched through relevance and uncovering bias by visual balance and neutral presentation. It was found that evening news Události dedicate most of the time to foreign, occasional and political events, 35 % of news showed elements of siding, for example by dramatization, possible reality distortion and using expressive expressions. In terms of regional Brno's news Události v regionech it was found that the highest relevance was assigned to points of interest news and local news, 17 % of news showed elements of siding using mostly evaluative expressions. Czech television and czech radio in the perspective of the PSM model: a case study

The master thesis describes the development of Czech Television and Czech Radio be- tween 2005 and 2012, focusing on media policy, technology, content and attitude to the audience. It applies research output of the RIPE initiative as a theoretical basis for col- lection and interpretation of the data. RIPE, which links academia with media profes- sionals worldwide, aiming to redefine the public service remit for the 21st century, sug- gests that the political, economic, technological and social context has fundamentally changed in the last two or three decades. As a result, the original concept of public ser- vice broadcasting, established in Western Europe after the Second World War, has lost its legitimacy. It is therefore necessary for public service broadcasters (PSB) to trans- form into public service media (PSM). This means diversifying modes of distribution to new technologies besides traditional broadcasting, setting mechanisms of two-way and interactive communication with the audience, producing multimedia content exploitable on various platforms and clearly defining and justifying the value added of their offer- ings compared to those of commercial competitors. Campaign of Czech Television about broadcasting digitalization in years 2008-2010

The goal of this bachelor thesis is analysis of marketing campaign to digitalization of TV broadcasting in the Czech Republic. The work is based on descriptive analysis of non-commercial (more specifically non-traditional) marketing campaign. The bachelor thesis looks into the reasons for the technological change- digitalization. Its ambition is to explain why and how are TV viewers informed. The work is focused on individual components of all republic campaign and it describes its process. More specifically it chooses Prague as an example of marketing activities. It evaluates graphical elaboration of logo and work with it as a tool of non-commercial communication. Last but not least the work focuses on budgeting and its effective use in terms of marketing campaign. The main sources are press releases reported by NKO (national coordination group) and books qouted at the back of the thesis.
TV-Charity in the Czech republic

This thesis is a case study, which is focused on relationships and forms of cooperation between non-profit organizations doing charity, and Czech Television. The main methods of data gathering in this work are semi-structured interviews with selected stakeholders. One respondent from the Czech TV and five representatives of different NGOs participated in the research. According to the theory of agenda-setting and the concept of gate keeping the aim of this study is to find out how NGOs get on the TV screen. Part of this thesis is devoted to the specification of various form of cooperation between Czech television and different non-profit organizations. Also there is an an assessment of the current situation from the perspective of both sides. In the final summary there are the crucial findings and discussion devoted to problematic issues in the cooperation of Czech Television and nonprofit organizations.
Legal Regulation of the Radio and Television Broadcast in the Czech Republic

The thesis Legal Regulation of the Radio and Television Broadcast in the Czech Republic deals with an analysis and description of relevant legal regulations applicable in the area of broadcasting and television in the Czech Republic and with a closer insight in the main legal institutes and entities. A theoretically-juridical opening is followed by an introduction of the Czech Republic and European Union legal systems. The core of the thesis is the main topic, which is the legal regulation of the radio and television broadcasting in the Czech Republic. This part is opened by a short historical abstract followed by chapters dedicated to particular legal regulations. The Broadcasting Act, the Act on Czech Television, the Czech Television Code, the Act on Czech Radio, the Czech Radio Code and the Act on Audio Visual Media Services upon Request are described in individual chapters. The closing part is dedicated to some of the legal regulations and their provisions that are more remotely related to the subject. Individual chapters describe relevant legal institutes of the Act on Advertising Regulation, the Advertising Council Code of Ethics, the Consumer Protection Act, the Commercial Code and the Civil Code.
The Style and Language of Sport News and Journalism, Moderators, and Commentators in Czech Television (Focused on Petr Vichnar)

This diploma thesis titled "The Style and Language of Sport News and Journalism, Moderators, and Commentators in Czech Television (Focused on Petr Vichnar)" describes and analyses the speech of Petr Vichnar (of Czechoslovak Television fame) from the station's inception up to the present day. The thesis is divided into six main parts. The first part deals with general stylistic elements, the second focuses on the style and language in the contemporary speech of Petr Vichnar. Part three deals with the style and language of this author in the past whereas the fourth section shows the transformation of speech. The fifth and sixth parts deal with work in television and sports langure and a semiotic analysis respectively. Everyone changes in thein profession, and sports journalists are no exception either. Petr Vichnar began his career in sports journalism at the time when Wi-Fi networks, which allow rapid acquisition of information, were not in common usage. He began to moderate, though not yet using a teleprompter / auto-cue, and so he either had to keep everything in his head or use notes on paper.
