Predictors of quality of life in the elderly

The aim of this study is to investigate which factors are related to the quality of life of the elderly in the Czech Republic. In the first part of the work we summarized current findings about the ageing, particularly from demographical, sociological and psychopathological perspectives. Farther we discussed the concept of quality of life and research of quality of life in the elderly. In the second research part we analysed data from a representative sample of 325 older adults living in Prague that we collected as a part of the cross-cultural project "The Measurement of Quality of Life in Older Adults and its Relationship to Healthy Ageing". Set of instruments included the quality of life assessments (WHOQOL-BREF and WHOQOL-OLD), the Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS), The Attitudes to Ageing Questionnaire AAQ and Socio-demographic form. To identify determinants of various aspects of quality of life we ran regression analyses separately for each of the six WHOQOL-OLD and four WHOQOL-BREF dimensions. The strongest predictor across all quality of life dimensions was depression. The results confirm the importance of interventions and programmes promoting psychological well-being and preventing depressing in the elderly.

Marriage and cohabitation in the Czech Republic and in France: demonstration of the second demographic transition?

Cílem této práce je porovnat změny partnerského chování v České republice v 90. letech se situací ve Francii od 70. let. Pozornost je zaměřena na vstup do prvního partnerství, tedy na prvosňatečnost a život v nesezdaném soužití. Změny, ke kterým dochází v České republice od počátku 90. let, jsou často dávány do analogie se změnami, ke kterým došlo v rodinném chování v zemích západní Evropy v 60. a 70. letech. Řada studií se zabývá srovnávacími analýzami vycházejícími ze současného stavu, tj. porovnávají situaci ve více zemích ve stejném časovém období posledních let. Tato práce si klade otázku, zda celospolečenský kontext změn partnerského chování v České republice měl podobné rysy jako celospolečenský kontext podobných změn ve Francii. Z podrobných analýz vyplývá, že změny partnerského chování byly v obou zemích reakcí jak na strukturální změny společnosti, tak na hodnotové a postojové změny populace. Role of education in contemporary Yemeni society

V únoru roku 2006 jsem byl přijat na dobrovolnický projekt evropské sítě GLEN (Global Education Network of Young Europeans), sdružující dvanáct dobrovolnických organizací ze stejného počtu zemí Evropské unie. Cílem tohoto programu je vysílat mladé dobrovolníky na krátkodobé projekty do zemí tzv. globálního Jihu za účelem jejich pozdějšího angažmá v oblasti rozvojové spolupráce, zvyšování veřejného povědomí o globálních tématech a podpoře myšlenek udržitelného rozvoje a zodpovědné rozvojové politiky. Můj projekt se týkal organizování a realizace vzdělávacího programu o globálních tématech v dívčím komunitním vzdělávacím centru Girls World Communication Center v hlavním městě Jemenu, Sana'a. Zhruba v té době se zrodila myšlenka na zajímavé téma k bakalářské práci, které se později ustálilo do názvu "Role vzdělávání v současné jemenské společnosti". Mezi ústřední témata na poli rozvojové spolupráce patří podpora vzdělávání, které se stalo jedním z účinných nástrojů socioekonomického pokroku v současném globalizujícím se světě. Tento fenomén můžeme pozorovat na důrazu, jaký kladou vlády vyspělých zemí na investice do veřejného vzdělávání na všech úrovních a zejména na podporu celoživotního učení. Analysis of Financial Literacy in Czech Republic

The subject of this diploma thesis is financial literacy in Czech Republic. The main interest is the government concept explaining National Strategy on financial education and Financial Education System for elementary schools and high schools. The thesis also deals with consumer protection as it is integral part of financial literacy. Activities of Supranational organizations like European Union and Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development are presented enhancing their impact on steps taken by Czech government. Eventually analysis of own measuring financial literacy is performed bringing evaluated and compared results. Based on those recommendation are proposed.

Pastoral care proposes an approach that integrates biological, psychological, and social changes with existential, spiritual, and value changes. This approach thus calls attention to such gerontological phenomena as the dignity, altruistic love, empathy, and compassionate concern, because that it is impossible to overcome the current ethical relativism without those values.

Microfinance : fighting poverty vs. sustainable banking

The thesis deals with microfinance institutions and their ability to serve very poor clients even without a continuous inflow of subsidies from donors. After disclosing the specificities that distinguish the clientele of these organizations from the clients of commercial banks in the developed world, the analysis of selected institutions from South Asia, including the famous Grameen Bank of Bangladesh, is performed. Using the data gathered from their annual reports of these microfinance institutions, the individual dependence on subsides during one decade is evaluated. The final part of the thesis utilizes the similarities that appear in the individual examination and the econometric analysis of the data for the extraction of the key factors and strategies that can help to decrease the dependence of this sector on donor financial support. The analysis finds that higher depth of outreach of an organization to the very poor does not inevitably lead to lower level of self-sustainability. The Metods of Activation of Seniors

This graduate work is about active life style of seniors in rest homes. I work with seniors in the rest home in Bechyně. In solve questions concerning activities of seniors who live here. They are passive and they don't have any stimuli (especially sense stimuli). I used the method of questionary to find out something about their hobbies. On the basis of the results of the questionary I try to think up new activities and programs for them. There are some programs for them, but I would like to offer more activities they could do together. I realized some of the new programs. At the end I deal with individual work with concrete seniors. Možnosti riešenia problému starnutia populácie v Českej republike

Bakalářská práce analyzuje proces stárnutí populace. Zaměřuje se na příčiny současného demografického vývoje a na jeho negativní dopady zejména na průběžně financované důchodové systémy. Poukazuje na velice rychlé stárnutí populace České republiky a dlouhodobou neudržitelnost penzijního systému v současné podobě. Rozebírá možnosti využití pozitiv, jako i varování před problémy, které doposud přinesla reforma na Slovensku. Z komparace populací krajin vyplývá, že oba státy čeká v budoucnu přibližně stejný demografický vývoj a jeho důsledky. Organizace slovenského kapitálového pilíře je podobná prvkům penzijního připojištění v ČR. To by ulehčilo implementaci druhého pilíře do českého důchodového modelu. V důsledku obrovských transformačních nákladů se období rychlého růstu HDP ukázalo jako výhodné pro načasování reformy.

Trust and Environmental Regulations

This thesis analyzes impact of social trust on environmental regulations stringency. Negative effect is suggested. Thesis documents that, in a cross section of countries, there is no evidence of such an effect. On the other hand, there is evidence of positive impact of GDP per capita and level of education.
