Hladíková, Alena ; Komárková, Tereza (advisor) ; Sedláčková, Daniela (referee)
The aim of the thesis Volunteer programs that support child in adoption or foster care is to monitor the offer of volunteer programs for children in adoption foster care in the Czech Republic and to show possibilities of support which volunteer program could bring to children, including demonstrations of experience from similar programs abroad. The theoretical part of thesis describes the foster care system with respect to the child's needs and ways of support that are available to them in both professional and volunteer sphere. Emphasis is placed on the role of people who accompany a child on his way from the biological family to foster families, including important relationships and ties, which child lose during his way. It will also explain the idea and values of volunteering as unpaid voluntary work, including the typology of programs focusing on children and the ways volunteers can help to improve their situation. Practically oriented empirical part shows the concrete experiences of the actors from the volunteer program supporting children in foster care by the interviews. This program is organized by the volunteer center and respondents are volunteers, parents and children involved in this program, including the head of the program, through which the program was created. At the end of this...
Hodnocení geodiverzity v kontextu tvorby a ochrany krajiny
Kubalíková, Lucie
The dissertation thesis focuses on geodiversity, which is defined as a set of abiotic elements and their relationships and systems within the landscape. The first goal of the thesis is to evaluate the role of geodiversity from the point of view of nature conservation and landscape planning and from the point of view of the development of sustainable forms of tourism and environmental education. The second goal is represented by a comparison of the suitability of the applied assessment methodologies. To protect geodiversity, use it rationally and evaluate its role in the nature conservation and landscape planning, it is necessary to design and apply specific methodological procedures. The first step is the identification of particular geodiversity elements, their detailed description and analysis; both within the entire defined territory and at the level of sites. On the basis of detailed research and field work, an evaluation of geodiversity can be carried out, again at the level of the entire territory (area-level) and at the level of specific localities (site-level). The most frequently used methodologies, approaches and tools include qualitative-quantitative assessment of specific localities (geosites, geomorphosites methodology), assessment of geodiversity within the concept of ecosystem (geosystem) services, or Geodiversity Action Plans. All these approaches have advantages and disadvantages and are applicable for different purposes and in different environments (both in urban and rural areas, both in natural and so-called geo-cultural sites). Thanks to the combination of geodiversity assessment methods, particular management measures can be proposed, including legislative protection or plans in the field of geotourism and environmental education.
Anticancer immunity in animal models and experimental immunotherapy with glycodendrimers specific for the lectin-like receptor NKR-P1
Vannucci, Luca Ernesto ; Fišerová, Anna (advisor) ; Bubeník, Jan (referee) ; Apte, Ron Nathan (referee)
5 SUMMARY Anticancer immunity is a complex network in which innate immunity play an critical role. The immune system can control the onset of tumors by recognizing the changed phenotype of the transformed cells as a non-self phenotype. The active control against cells not presenting self characters is defined by the paradigm of immune surveillance. In recent years, various studies have shown that the immune response against transformed cells start as a localized acute inflammatory response. The cooperation of natural-killer cells (NK) and phagocytes attracted by so-called "danger signals" (pro-inflammatory molecules and chemo-attractants delivered by stressed cells) can lead to total ablation of the harmful cell clone. If the intervention is not completely efficient, immunoediting of the tumor can follow with stimulation of chronic inflammatory responses, mainly mediated by macrophages. The systemic immunity attempt to terminate the uncontrolled inflammation stimulates the intervention of regulatory T lymphocytes and the shift from an antitumor cytotoxic Th1 response to a Th2 inhibitory response. This regulatory mechanism paradoxically assists the tumor development. All the described events needs the interplay and cooperation of both tumor cells and host cells and stromal elements, that altogether form the...
Communication Possibilities of Children with Infantile Cerebral Palsy
Zikmundová, Klára ; Saicová Římalová, Lucie (advisor) ; Hudáková, Andrea (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to attempt to summarize what communication possibilities children suffering from a serious form of infantile cerebral palsy have, to describe them and possibly to clarify what exactly restricts these possibilities. The thesis also tries to answer the question in what way the communication of these individuals differs from the communication of intact persons. The core of the thesis resides in a theoretical exposition which deals - among others - with the communication process and its verbal and non-verbal parts, the diagnostic characterization of the infantile cerebral palsy and the impaired communication ability in symptomatic speech disorders which are associated with this disability. It describes how especially mobility impairment and mental retardation are reflected in the way and possibilities of communication. Special attention is paid to methods of alternative and augmentative communication which can be used as a therapy in the stimulation of the development of communication and speech skills, and which very often represent one of few possible ways of communicating for persons with this disability. The theoretical part is accompanied by video recordings showing communication of four girls suffering from infantile cerebral palsy. As manifestations of this diagnosis...
The role of infectious diseases in the development and progression of renal graft dysfunction
Drenko, Petr ; Reischig, Tomáš (advisor) ; Hrabák, Jaroslav (referee) ; Dedinská, Ivana (referee)
Infectious diseases and their impact on the development and progression of renal graft dysfunction Infectious diseases represent a significant risk factor for morbidity and mortality among organ transplant recipients. In renal transplant recipients, infectious complications are the most common cause of death with preserved graft function. Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection is one of the most common opportunistic infections after solid organ transplantation. Despite the routine use of modern preventive measures, CMV infection puts kidney transplant recipients at higher risk of graft failure and mortality. In addition to direct action, CMV also has an immunomodulatory ability that is associated with an increased risk of T-lymphocyte-mediated and possibly antibody-mediated graft rejection in particular, both of which limit long-term allograft survival. The two main strategies for CMV prevention include (1) universal prophylaxis with treatment of all patients at risk (according to donor-recipient serostatus) with antiviral drugs and (2) preventive therapy based on CMV monitoring and treatment of only selected patients with significant viral replication (DNAemia). The current International Consensus Guidlines consider both strategies equivalent in patients after kidney transplantation, even in the high- risk...
Instruments for the Development of Rural Municipalities
Perlín, Radim ; Bičík, Ivan (advisor) ; Anděl, Jiří (referee) ; Vaishar, Antonín (referee)
Charles University in Prague Faculty of Science Department of Social Geography and Regional Development Radim Perlín Instruments for the Development of Rural Municipalities Summary Prague 2010 Gradual change in the functional utilisation of rural space is characteristic of the second half of the twentieth century. The original agrarian function of rural areas is losing its significance and rural areas and municipalities, along with their residents, are subsequently seeking new roles within society's division of functions. Following increases in rural population during the second half of the nineteenth century, caused by the demographic revolution, a portion of the economically active residents of rural areas emigrated over the next several decades, contributing to the rapid population growth of cities. Decreases in family size represent a consequence of the departure of a portion of rural inhabitants. Korčák studied the initial phases of these processes back in 1929. After World War II and in connection with the necessity to ensure food security and sufficient volume of agricultural production, the Common Agricultural Policy was formulated within the emerging European community as one of the first joint policies. It focuses primarily on ensuring sufficient income for agricultural workers, in the midst of...
Critical media pedagogy - theoretical underpinning and contribution to media education
Valenta, Petr ; Sak, Petr (advisor) ; Havlík, Radomír (referee) ; Kartous, Bohumil (referee)
Critical media pedagogy - theoretical underpinnigs and contribution to media education Dissertation Mgr. Petr Valenta Keywords critical theory, critical media pedagogy, media literacy, critical pedagogy, media, ideology, discourse, power, symbolic power, knowledge Abstract The theoretical dissertation analyzes the traditional media education model issues, which derives from the orientation of media literacy on the dominant paradigm of media effects research in media studies. Media education takes the "media effects concept" and uses it to organize its own teaching practice. Theoretical dependence on media studies and the concept media effects leads media education to protectionism and normativity, which is reflected in the directive establishment of knowledge, skills and values pupils may acquire. This situation has negative effect on efforts of developing critical media thinking as independent on social authorities. Moreover, media education potentially reproduces the dominant modes of knowledge about media and society, without revealing them as social constructions. The theoretical basis for changing the paradigm of media education to become more critical and transformative practice able to form the student's personality as an autonomous, critical- thinking and committed citizen is presented in the second...
