Public Broadcasting Media in Poland and in Czech Republic in 2014-2018

This thesis deals with the comparison of Polish and Czech public television system, the amendment to the media law designed by the Polish government's Law and Justice party in the years 2015 and 2016 and how this amendment reflected on the current state of Polish public television. In the comparison was used the Compliance method and four independent variables were defined: the definition of objectives and missions of public service media in Poland and the Czech Republic, the control bodies of Polish Television and Czech Television, the funding of Polish Television and Czech Television and the program offer of both televisions. Expert interviews conducted with Polish media experts personally or by telephone and media laws in both countries served as the main sources of the research. The main aim of this diploma thesis is to determine to what extent the media systems of public service televisions differ in both countries and how they are similar. The thesis focuses mainly on the relationship of political power and the media, answers the question of how political power in both countries seeks to enter into the financing and control of public media.
Czech podcasting of a Public Service Media As a Recent Phenomenon

Podcasting - a phenomenon known only in America a few years ago, has reached even the Czech Republic nowadays. This bachelor thesis focuses on the phenomenon of podcasting of both Czech Television and Czech Radio, which are known as public service media. It consists of a practical and a theoretical part. The theoretical part puts the topic into context, from the definition of basic concepts to the process of creating the practical part of this bachelor thesis. The practical part in the form of a radio podcast introduces the podcast production of the mentioned public service media, their development, the current situation and what the future is like for this phenomenon. The radio podcast is supplemented with parts of interviews with respondents as well as with short excerpts from the podcasts mentioned. The script of the practical part of this bachelor thesis, as well as transcripts of interviews with respondents, are included in the appendix.
Control of public service media. Historical analysis of the membership of the Czech Television Council and the Czech Radio Council and their media reflection

This Bachelor thesis focuses on the control of public service media and provides a historical overview of the membership of the Czech Television Council and the Czech Radio Council. It focuses on a reflection of the media's reports on the election of the membership of the media councils. The aim of the reflection of the election of the Czech Television Council and Czech Radio Council by the media, is to find out how the selected media reported on the topic and what topics it dealt with in connection to the election of the Czech Television and Czech Radio Councils. The first part of this thesis is focused on public service media and their control bodies. Firstly, the concept of public service media is defined, then attention is focused on the Czech public service media and their problems in legislation. Additionally, the topic of control of public service media, their current status and problems is elaborated upon. At the end of the first section, the television crisis is discussed. The subject of the second section is on a historical overview of the membership of the Czech Television Council and the Czech Radio Council from 2001 to 2019. The future form and the functioning of public service media is currently a widely discussed issue in European countries, not only among professionals but also among politicians and the general public. The aim of this thesis is to map the form of this discussion in Germany, whose public media has so far a strong and irreplaceable position in media system. The first part of the thesis will be focused on the history of the public service media and the description of their current state (structure, functioning, legal regulation, etc.). The second part will deal with the debate on the existence and form of public service media, which is currently taking place in Germany. In particular, the question of the form of the existence of these media in the digital environment, their financing, the range of services they provide and others are discussed.

Elections of directors of public service media from perspectiveof selected newspapers and news websites

The Masterˈs thesis deals with an answer of public service media and a way of their representation in selected newspapers and news websites. Due to the importance of public service media as a guarantee of the balanced and neutral news and because of their specifics to commercial media, this thesis focuses on the way the other media write about them, on the example of the last elections of directors of public service media. The first part explains the specifics of public service media, their progression, the actual position and problems. Further it concerns concrete, czech public service media and there searched phenomenon, i. e. the election of director of public service media too. The second part is my own research. I researched the way of representation of the election of director of Czech Radio in the year 2016 and the elections of directors of Czech Television and Czech News Agency in the year 2017 in the journals Hospodářské noviny, Mladá fronta DNES and Právo and on the news websites IHNED.cz, iDNES.cz and Novinky.cz. The method of research was qualitative content analysis due to keep an open access to the found informations. Transformations of normative envrionment of public service media in Poland after 2015

This bachelor thesis deals with changes in normative environment in Polish public service media after 2015, after the beginning of the party's Prawo i Sprawiedliwość (Law and Justice) rule. We have limited our research by time limit, we follow the changes up to the end of year 2016. Using the method of analysis, namely the comparative analysis of the normative environment before and after 2015, we answer questions whether and how the normative environment has changed. In addition to the use of comparative analysis, we also answer these questions using testimonies from experts from the Polish academic sphere. Our conclusion is that normative environment has changed, the reality is moving away from the ideal attributes of the normative environment. The results of the thesis provide the basis for further exploration of Polish public service media, for example, for examination of content of their messages after the normative environment has changed.
Emotion expressed in public space communication

This study focuses on the internet as a public space and explores the emotionality of this area. It is also approached as a case study which investigates the relationship between emotionality and commercialization. In the theoretical part, the concept of the public space and especially its changes that came with the internet and social networks is specified for the reader, to provide a general overview essential to the results of this work. Furthermore, the theme of the communication via internet is defined and the identification of emotions in media communication is explained in the theoretical part. The practical part analyses in which intensity the mass media use the tools of the expressibility on their facebook profiles. These mass media were purposely chosen, one being commercial and the next one the public service television, whose function is to support the social cohesiveness and to cultivate the language. The representatives are television TV Nova and radio Rádio Impuls as the commercial media, television Česká televize and radio Český rozhlas as the public service media. The findings of this thesis provide the insight into the issues and point out the difficult position of the public service media on the social networks.
Public Service Broadcasting in the Czech Republic: compliance with PSB criteria in the case of the Czech Television

The thesis Public Service Broadcasting in the Czech Republic: compliance with PSB criteria in the case of the Czech Television is covering the topic of public service media and their system of public service evaluation. In its theoretical part this thesis is describing several approaches to a definition of public service media themselves. It is also mentioning history of the concept itself and its development not only in the Czech Republic but in Great Britain as well as other European countries. The practical functioning of the public service evaluation system is also covered on an example of the BBC and the Czech Television. In the analytical part the author is trying to describe and sum up the evaluation system as it is used by the Council of Czech Television. Detailed analysis of the data and its sources is provided as well as identification of elements that are taken into the consideration when evaluating. The analysis then leads to a discovery of certain discrepancies in the evaluation process and its outcomes. The author is trying to identify the most problematic points of the system.
Media image of party KDU-ČSL, SPOZ, Suverenity and SZ after the elections to the PS PČR 2010

This thesis presents and analyzes the media image of political programs of parties Christian and Democratic Union - Czechoslovak People's Party, Green Party, Party of Civic Rights - Zemanovci and Sovereignty after parliamentary elections in 2010 in Czech public service media - Czech Press Agency, Czech Television and Czech Radio. In the theoretical part of the thesis are presented political party programs in the period 2010-2013, and also briefly introduced Czech public service media, their historical development or their current position in the media world. The practical part contains an analysis of textual and audiovisual content of individual media in the selected time period and focuses on the search for mentions of individual program points. Minor, but for understanding the role of public service media is an important part that compares the situation of position Czech public service media with those from another countries. The practical part then also examines the situation in the Czech world media after parliamentary elections in 2013 and if there are any consequences based on these results.
