Ochota podniků platit za environmentální úspory
Katrincová, Lucie
Katrincová, L. Diploma thesis. Willingness to pay for environmental savings. Brno: Mendel University, 2019. This thesis deals with the determination of the willingness to pay (WTP) for envi-ronmental saving in enterprises in the Czech Republic, using the so-called Contin-gent valuation method. Determination of WTP works with a hypothetical situation where there are environmental savings presented in the form of “ecological” ma-chine, which has lower CO2 emissions. Significant regressors affecting WTP are: the age and gender of the respondent, the size of the enterprise, and the variable that expresses whether an enterprise is willing to pay to protect the environment beyond the statutory duty. An estimate of the willingness to pay for 1 tonne of CO2 is about 12 700 CZK. The main motives for pro-environmental behavior are: the moral aspect and the sense of responsibility for the state of the environment, a better image of the enterprise, the competitive advantage and the consequence of pressure from business partners or customers.
Willingness to pay for streaming services: Evidence from the Czech Republic
Strnadová, Ivana ; Polák, Petr (advisor) ; Kučera, Adam (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to analyze the consumers' willingness to pay for subscription- based video streaming services in the Czech Republic. With the unique data collected via self-developed questionnaire both the willingness to pay and the maximum price that consumers would be willing to pay for such services is examined. Using the logistic regression, variables that have a significant effect on the probability of subscribing were identified. These include the age, education level, preference for original sound and Czech movie production, online payments, purchase of an electronic movie, number of devices used, cinema visits, favouritism of movies over TV shows, satisfaction with the content offered by common broadcasting stations and desire for spatial mobility when accessing video content. Similar results were obtained when predicting the price using OLS. Additionally a previous purchase of a physical medium and the income level were found significant. Based on demand estimation this thesis also suggests that from the provider's perspective the optimal profit maximization price for streaming services should be set in the range from 218 to 283 CZK.
Willingness to pay for e-books in the Czech Republic
Tomášková, Lenka ; Polák, Petr (advisor) ; Votápková, Jana (referee)
The aim of this bachelor thesis is to explain willingness to pay for electronic books in the Czech Republic. Data were collected via online questionnaire. Using the logit model, following variables were identified to have significant influence on probability of buying an e-book. These variables are ownership of an e-book, online shopping, membership in the library, buying printed books, physical appearance of book and thinking about e-books as electronic documents which should be for free. Moreover, in case of printed book's price equals 270 CZK, respondents are willing to pay 132 CZK in average for an electronic version of the same title. Willingness to pay for electricity-driven passenger vehicles
Horváthová, Inés ; Ščasný, Milan (advisor) ; Kukačka, Jiří (referee)
This thesis analyses stated preferences for 4 different types of passenger ve- hicles (conventional, hybrid electric, plug-in hybrid, and battery electric vehi- cles). The discrete choice experiment survey was conducted in Poland in 2014. With the use of latent class model it was possible to identify and describe dis- tinct segments in the population with varying preferences for the propulsion technologies: groups with strong and weak preferences for conventional vehi- cles, segments preferring pure hybrid and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, and a class in favour of battery electric vehicles. Even though it was found that on average consumers would require compensation up to 22,200zł (e5,311) to switch to using an electric vehicle, respective segments in the population would be willing to pay around 10,100zł (e2,417) for this change in case of pure hy- brid, around 21,400zł (e5,128) in case of plug-in hybrid, and around 92,800zł (e22,199) in case of battery electric vehicles.
Willingness to pay for green electricity
Novák, Jan ; Ščasný, Milan (advisor) ; Gutiérrez Chvalkovská, Jana (referee)
We estimate the willingness to pay for electricity generated from renewable energy in the Czech Republic. Discrete choice experiment is used to elicit preferences for various attributes of renewable electricity support scheme (PM emission, GHG emission, size of RE power plant, revenue distribution, and costs). Original survey is carried with 404 respondents living in two regions - Ustecky (polluted area) and Southern Bohemia (cleaner area). We find that respondents prefer decentralized renewable electricity sources over centralized, local air quality improvements over reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. Estimated marginal willingness to pay for 1% reduction in emission of particulate matter equals to 49 CZK, respectively 3.7 % of average monthly electricity bill. In total, WTP for green electricity is larger than current compulsory contributions to renewable energy support scheme. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
Willingness to pay for mobile internet in the Czech Republic
Doskočilová, Kateřina ; Polák, Petr (advisor) ; Luňáčková, Petra (referee)
Willingness to pay for mobile internet in the Czech Republic Abstract The main focus of this thesis is to examine consumers' willingness to pay for mobile internet in the Czech Republic. The data for the estimation were collected via a self-developed online questionnaire. Using the logit model, the factors, which significantly influences the WTP, were identified. These include: the ownership of a smartphone, perceived importance of availability of the internet connection, having a monthly mobile tariff and the way of using mobile applications. Additionally, the price, that the consumers' would be willing to pay for their ideal tariff, is examined and it is shown, that the level of education has a significant negative effect on this price.
Validity of Direct Measurement of Stated Willingness to Pay in the Context of Fair Trade
Mičínová, Veronika ; Remr, Jiří (advisor) ; Hendl, Jan (referee)
The diploma thesis deals with validity of direct measurement of stated willingness to pay (WTP) in the fair trade context based on two-phase measurement applied in the INESAN survey. Attention is also paid to the unit of answer to an open-ended question and to the functionality of WTP as an indicator of purchase intent. First, fair trade, the concept of WTP with focus on areas of its application, ways of measurement, critics and problems of its use are introduced from the theoretical perspective. Further, cognitive aspects of the process of answering survey questions as a way of testing the functionality of a measurement tool are analyzed. The thesis is built on a combination of two survey methods, cognitive interviews and secondary analysis of quantitative data. It concludes that measuring WTP for the purpose of capturing the value of fair trade using direct stated method of measurement is problematic as numerous risks with impact on validity of acquired data appear. Those risks concern both the particular way of measurement and the direct stated WTP measurement in general, starting with ambiguous interpretation of WTP questions for a fair trade product among respondents. The thesis also shows that answering open-ended question in the form of percentage is cognitively more demanding than in the...
Determinants of generic drug substitution in the Czech Republic
Žílová, Pavlína ; Votápková, Jana (advisor) ; Bryndová, Lucie (referee)
This study uses logistic regression to estimate the probability of choosing the brand-name drug despite the presence of cheaper generics given patient and drug characteristics in the Czech pharmaceutical market in the period 2009-2013. Results of the analysis may help guide policies to decrease pharmaceutical costs. In order to motivate people who are more likely to choose the original version of drug, policy makers may impose higher copayments and lower subsidies on the original drugs which they use. Additionally, two supplementary analyses were applied to sub-sectors of the pharmaceutical market: antihypertensive drugs and antibiotics. Fixed effects logistic regression is employed to test the robustness of the results.
