Messengers of the Light: Angelic Spirituality in Czech Context
Tesárek, Jan ; Spalová, Barbora (advisor) ; Uherek, Zdeněk (referee)
This thesis addresses non-traditional angelic spirituality experienced outside of traditional churches. This spirituality is specific for its everyday communication and contact with angelic beings. The present research examines contemporary angelic spirituality using a lens of relational ontology and semiotic analysis, focusing on how recurrent communication acts allow the emergence of specific subjectivities and identifies the main processes behind this phenomenon - recognition, interpretation and reaction. Research documents specific techniques allowing the formation of angelic subjectivities and redefinition of human subjectivities; prayer, reading cards, guided meditation, different types of clairvoyance and interpretation of signs. Deliberately using these techniques leads to re/definition of subjectivity of a practitioner (through clairvoyant insights into the past lives) and transforms him into human/incarnated soul. These communication acts further form a subjectivity of deceased souls, with which practitioners of angelic spirituality are often in contact, together with the subjectivity of dark beings, which cannot interact with a person without invitation it first and a subjectivity of angelic beings, which are defined by their unconditional support of their charges. Multifunctional building near little chapel - Židenice
Klimeš, Jakub ; Elešová, Klára (referee) ; Dulenčín, Juraj (advisor) ; Petříček, Tomáš (advisor)
This bachelor thesis deals with the design of a mixed-use building at a crossing of two streets, Táborská and Nezamyslova, in the district of Židenice, Brno. The aim of the work is to come up with a new architectural and urbanistic concept, which will also enhance the vicinity of the building. The house itself has four storeys. The ground floor is reserved for commerce, such as shops, and a future expansion with a small cafeteria is planned. The following three floors are residential. Part of the second floor serves as a roof terrace for the inhabitants of the building. The structure terminates with a flat green roof. There are two underground parking storeys, with places reserved not only for the inhabitants of the building, but also of the surrounding area, which improves rentability. The concept tries to unify the corner of the two streets and reacts to the surrounding structures. The last house on Táborská street is a three-storey house, while the one on Nezamyslova is a two-storey one. For those reasons, the floor plan of the building has the shape of an “L”, and there is an indent in the eastern part, which corresponds with the house on Nezamyslova street. This indent forms the aforementioned roof terrace. The concept also incorporates the public space in front of the house, which is dominated by a chapel. This area shields the building from the noisy streets. A large amount of greenery, especially birches, is proposed in this space, to improve the greenery coefficient of the plot. The façade consists of hung anodized aluminium panels, which are anchored into the walls of the structure. The object is located in a very busy area, which makes it obvious to use the ground floor for rentable commercial spaces. The apartments themselves are placed into the following three floors. The aim is to reduce the noise from the street as much as possible, and thus the sleeping and living rooms are all oriented into the private courtyard. There is a total of 14 apartm
Dance of Witches: Analysis of selected Aspects of Contemporary Magic
Tesárek, Jan ; Spalová, Barbora (advisor) ; Fiala, Šimon (referee)
This thesis deals with research of magic in contemporary Czech society. Although magic in contemporary society is practiced across different religious currents, this research has shown that it is possible to analytically grasp it through its epistemological dimension. In this sense, magic is a set of specific ways of knowing that produce a particular knowledge of the world. These are the epistemic processes: clairvoyance, ritual visions, oracles and interpretation of physical sensations. These processes have a symbolic nature and they are structured through symbolic meanings, which are based on spiritual ground of adept's practising of magic. Acquired "magical" knowledge is then negotiated as real and rational through different narrative strategies: through science legitimization, legitimization effect and through psychological reductionism. This knowledge also affects the social world and identity in the lives of informants of my research. The magic in them becomes a commission that is accepted or rejected. However it creates a specific network of relationships with human and non-human actors around the informant which forms his identity.
