Children in magazines for parents in 2013

The main aim of the diploma thesis is to describe the way that magazines for parents communicate with their readers and to identify the role of the representation of children. A selection of articles representing both commercial and noncommercial communication is analyzed using the method of semiotic analysis. The introductory part of the thesis, briefly presenting the history of media research, is followed by a section describing the way that motherhood and the status of a child has been perceived throughout history, with special attention to the influence of Christianity. Following chapters focus on the changes of the social role of women that enabled the rise of women's periodicals, both in the USA, Europe and also in the Czech lands. The part dedicated to legislation introduces the most significant legal definitions of children and childhood in relation to media. The analytical part of the thesis is preceded by a brief characterization of the selected magazines and an explanation of the method of semiotic analysis. The bachelor thesis Influence of Media on Czech Athletes before and during the Olympic Games in London 2012 examines the impact of selected Czech media on the successful Czech athletes including: world record holder Barbora Špotáková, European Vice-champion Denisa Rosolová, World Champions Vítězslav Veselý and Zuzana Hejnová. The main content and at the same time the aim of the thesis is to inspect whether the selected media activity had positive or negative impact to the athletes performance at 2012 Olympic Games in London. The thesis is divided into two parts - theoretical and analytic. The theoretical part is based on two main assumptions. First, media can affect an individual's state of mind, and second, a psyche of an athlete can have an impact on his or her performance. The author explains general effects of the media and points out how they can influence a success of the athlete. In addition, it describes the importance of athlete's psyche during the competition. Afterwards, it introduces the selected athletes, the most important moments in their Olympic season, and also selected media with their sections, which are explored in the practical part of the thesis. Context of agenda-setting in the context of Czech media studies

This dissertation thesis follows from a wide stream of considerations of the relationship between the mass media, public and politics; in particular detail, it deals with a specific concept which attempts to grasp, model and empirically examine this relationship. The main goals of the thesis can be in short divided into two interrelated areas. The first aim is to introduce the concept of agenda setting to the Czech academic environment, with its theoretical, terminological and research frame for an analysis of relationships between the mass media content, dynamics of public opinion, and the political sphere. The second aim is to analyze how agenda setting processes are theoretically grounded and studied in the Czech social studies. The theoretical part of the thesis is structured according to two perspectives: diachronic and synchronic. In the diachronic perspective, I try to grasp the social context and historical origins of agenda-setting as a concept, its development, main trends, and developmental lines. This way, I move forward to the synchronic perspective and describe academic grounding of agenda-setting; I give a detailed analysis of the present level of the agenda-setting research and the main research areas through available classifications. Media image of Vietnam in printed media

This diploma thesis concentrates on the media coverage of Vietnam in 2012, particularly in four Czech newspapers. Applying qualitative and quantitative method, it analyzes 358 articles, which appeared throughout the selected newspapers in 2012. This paper is divided into two parts, a theoretical and a practical one. The theoretical part describes Vietnam in the 20th century, the history of Czech-Vietnamese relations as well as the main media concepts that help to create a media image. The practical part of the quantitative method answers the research questions, which have been put forward at the beginning of the research. The data, such as the frequency of the topic during the year, topics that are usually connected with Vietnam, occurrence of the word Vietnam in headline and the amount of articles in which Vietnam is the main topic will be depicted using graphs and tables. The results of the qualitative analysis will then show, which characteristics are attributed to Vietnam in Czech daily press.
Mediatization of the Politic Sphere

This Diploma Thesis "Mediatization of Political Sphere" deals with the systematic influence of mass media and their logic on the functioning of the political system, process development and implementation of policy instruments and methods of political communication. First of all the theoretical part is focused on the description of the institutional importance of media in the social environment, more properly introduces images of the effects of media communications in the society, characteristics of the participation of media organizations in the economic relations so that the concept of mediatization in the frame of media studies could be defined and to specify its aspects in connection with a set of knowledge of media logic. The thesis does not omit the introduction of basic logic elements of political sphere, it also deals with its implicit settings, as well as modifications of the political structures in response to transfer a large part of the policy enforcement into the symbolic space of the media. Analysis of the relationship between media popularit y and perceiving their credibility

The goal of our thesis was to study the relation between trust and media. Therefore, we have introduced some selected theoretical approaches of trust in relation to society and we have also formulated our own theoretical implications on the basis of this review which we have later used in our research of trust in media. In the theoretical part we have defined the concept of trust in terms of two key principals of trust based on the rational and intuitive understanding of trust. We have described hierarchical levels of trust in society and then we have focused on interpersonal and system level. We have reviewed selected theoretical approaches to trust and we have outlined the development of trust within sociology. We have explained the function of media in society and pointed out the reasons of the interest in studying trust in media together with the review of the concepts of media effects. Then we have briefly summarized the empirical research and mentioned the situation in the Czech Republic. Finally we have suggested some phenomenons that may cause the decrease in trust are named. Manipulating practices in selected Czech newspapers during the elections into the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic in 2010

This thesis deals with the manipulating practices in the political media coverage in the period before the elections to the House of Parliament of the Czech Republic in May 2010. It describes the types of communication in terms of its ability to influence and focuses on the effects of the media and its impact on the audience. It also deals with the theoretical framework of the issues of manipulating methods and techniques and their causes. It defines the function of media in terms of intentions and evaluates the current situation in the Czech Republic, including the existing control mechanisms. A part of this thesis is a comparative analysis that focuses on a detailed qualitative analysis of texts published in the dailies Mladá fronta Dnes and Právo and their comparison during the period under consideration.
The influence of media on aggressive elementary school children

The aim of the thesis is to learn basic information about mediche in general and the impact of media on children's aggression elementary school. The theoretical section defines the basic concepts ? media, mass media and aggression. It also discusses the psychology of the group studied, the effects and deal with the impact of media is the most popular media among children on elementary school. In the practical part I investigate how children prefer to spend their leisure time, whether playing computer games and sitting at the internet is really that popular activity. Finally, I find that it is not indifferent to parents what their children are doing in their free time, all using the questionnaire in the fifth elementary school classrooms. This bachelor thesis deals with the media effects on the field of business etiquette in Czech Republic. The aim of my thesis is to describe how media influence, what effects they have and how they participate in creating media reality. The thesis also defines and analyses the media effects on business etiquette. In the first part there are defined terms such as etiquette, business etiquette and its basic rules or business ethics. Second part deals with the media effects and influences on individuals and society from theoretical point of view. The last part of the thesis is focused on observing particular effects of media products on etiquette. There is also suggested my own business etiquette-oriented column for a printed periodical.
