Financial earthquakes: Are volatility correlations related to Omori's law?
Bureš, Vlastimil ; Krištoufek, Ladislav (advisor) ; Žigraiová, Diana (referee)
The purpose of this thesis is to analyze the market dynamics in periods following a large financial shock. In order to do so, we compute the cumulative number of times the volatility is greater than a given threshold. Such a method is analogous to Omori's law from geophysics. We draw statistical evidence from three different events. The first one is concerned with the death of Steve Jobs and how it affected the evolution of Apple's share price. The second one focuses on the Flash Crash of 2010 when the Dow Jones Industrial Average experienced the largest drop of 900 points. And the last one is when IBM announced its 2013Q1 earnings which were significantly below expectations. By employing two different approaches to volatility calculation, we are able to compare the obtained results and thus draw a more definite conclusion. Our findings suggest that the decay rate of after-shocks for the considered earthquakes is well described by a power-law which is analogous to Omori's law. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
The role of EUBAM in implementing the Integrated Border Management system in Ukraine
Kulhánek, Jan ; Šír, Jan (advisor) ; Svoboda, Karel (referee)
This thesis examines the effectiveness of EUBAM in implementing Integrated Border Management in Ukraine between the years 2005 and 2019. The method chosen for this research is a case study analyzing EUBAM's projects aimed at integrated border management. The research concludes that EUBAM is most effective in projects that enable it to have a physical presence in the area. On the other hand, projects that are in essence theoretical tend to score lower. Keywords EUBAM, IBM, Ukraine, Moldova, Transnistria, Customs service, Border service
Natural Language Processing: Analysis of Information Technology Students’ Spoken Language
Teoretická část přistupuje k problému rozdělením do tří kapitol: umělá inteligence a statistika, zpracování přirozeného jazyka a IBM Watson Natural Language Understanding.

Život a kultura v České republice očima cizinců: Sonda do prostředí mezinárodní firmy IBM
Ježková, Marie
Life and Culture of the Czech Republic from Foreigners´ Perspective: Research in IBM´s Environment. Diploma Thesis. Brno: Mendel University in Brno, 2016. Diploma thesis is focused on IBM Delivery Center foreigners´ opinion about life and culture in the Czech Republic. The beginning of the theoretical part mentions prior researches about life quality in the Czech Republic and the opinion of native Czech people. In addition, there are references about foreigners and their rights and obligations in the Czech law. The theoretical part concludes with explanations of essential terms of this thesis such as culture, communication, culture shock and adaptability. The practical portion of this thesis presents results from the opinion about life and culture in the Czech Republic survey. These results are then discussed in 2 different captures - European and non-European foreigners. In conclusion, the ascertained results are compared and evaluated in the end of the thesis.

Performance Analysis of IBM POWER8 Processors
Jelen, Jakub ; Kešner, Filip (referee) ; Jaroš, Jiří (advisor)
This paper describes the IBM Power8 system in comparison to the Intel Xeon processors, widely used in today’s solutions. The performance is not evaluated only on the whole system level but also on the level of threads, cores and a memory. Different metrics are demonstrated on typical optimized algorithms. The benchmarked Power8 processor provides extremely fast memory providing sustainable bandwidth up to 145 GB/s between main memory and processor, which Intel is unable to compete. Computation power is comparable (Matrix multiplication) or worse (N-body simulation, division, more complex algorithms) in comparison with current Intel Haswell-EP. The IBM Power8 is able to compete Intel processors these days and it will be interesting to observe the future generation of Power9 and its performance in comparison to current and future Intel processors.
