Cannons in a different war
Špinková, Lucie ; Novák, Arnošt (advisor) ; Stachová, Jana (referee)
This thesis is focused on members of two groups, rangers and ski lift operators of the area of Krkonoše mountains. In Krkonoše National Park there si a huge gain of using artificial snow lately, which is globally supposed to be kind of adaptation on climatic changes. It leads to extension of ski season, which is livelihood for many ski lift operators. This fact evokes conflicts. Rangers say that artificial snow has negative influence on environment, such as decrease of water, biodiversity, soil etc. I have decided to find out, using a quantitative sociological method of semi-structured interviews followed by analysis, how these two groups percieve the nature and how their differnces influence negotiation of reproduction of countryside in Krkonoše mountains. Sources of my research were works of authors such as Swyngedouw, Macnaghten, Urry or Escobar. These works describe various kinds of socio-countrysides and authors try to destroy stereotype of one nature. These socio-countrysides may be the main reason for arguing about nature. This thesis extends knowledge about heretofore missing analysis of conflict between two groups of ski lift operators and rangers. Main contribution of the thesis is undertsanding to two groups dealing with the same issue, but with different perspective and opinion.

Mountains as islands
Kačabová, Petra ; Storch, David (advisor) ; Ferenc, Michal (referee)
In this paper I deal with island biogeography and its applicability to isolated mountaintops, as an ecological equivalent of true islands. I discuss both true and mountain islands regarding their origin and the influence of long-term climate evolution on Earth. I underline some features of mountain islands, resulting from their topography and the dissimilarities of both types of island barriers. I find that mountain and true island communities might or might not have a number of species in a state of equilibrium, caused by balance between species immigration on island and their extinction. If the number of species on island is not in equilibrium, species extinction is not balanced by species immigration. I consider patterns of island communities, mainly nestedness, which has been frequently studied on mountain, as well as true islands. I discuss distribution patterns concerning invertebrates. And finally, I concentrate on recent methods of moutain island research and discuss mountain island isolation issues in terms of global warming.

Traditional Method of Transporting Material in the Krkonose Mountains.
Smrčka, Aleš ; Pargač, Jan (advisor) ; Hejzlarová, Tereza (referee)
This bachelor's thesis named Traditional Method of Transporting Material in the Krkonose Mountains acquaints the readers with the modes of material transportation in the Krkonose Mountains by traditional transport means from the mid 16th century to the present day. As far as transportation is concerned, the colonization by the Alpine residents occurring in the second half of the 16th century was of a great importance. The colonials coming from the Alps were invited to the Giant Mountains to harvest and subsequently transport timber. They were using traditional means of transportation, as for instance chutes, barrows, wheel-barrows, "loktuše" (square bagging), frame backpacks and sledge, when working in the forest, timber floating or lodge and chalet building. The specific means of transportation were selected according to the material transported, terrain, season and partially to the gender of the worker. Some of the transportation means gradually changed their purpose. For example the bob-sleigh was later employed in tourism and nowadays - instead of material transportation - is mainly used as sports equipment. Today, horses are usually employed to draw timber logs down from the areas of higher altitudes.
The exotism of the travels in the old czech voyages and the chivarlic novels
Heřmanská, Kateřina ; Hošna, Jiří (advisor) ; Matějec, Tomáš (referee)
The bacheloral work is aimed at the topic of the exotic area's construction in the old czech voyages (The Marco Polo's Million, The voyages called Mandevilla) and the chivarlic novels (The chronicle of Bruncvik, The Duke Ernest). We want to find connections between literary pictures of the exotic places and the common reception of the World and unknown space. Firstly we prepare simple teoretic base, which describe medieval people's dreams and ideas of the mysterious, exotic places on the East and the position of the new genres (voyages and chivarlic novel) in the czech literary context of the beggining of the 15th century. Than, we compair four old czech works, which use travels as the main theme of the story, and find the same or similar motives of the exotism. The construction of the place is made by three elements, which have their own symbolic meanings; it is a picture of the landscape, containned horrible deserts and pleasant spaces, fantastic or real flowers and animal, and mainly strange people, whose physical deformations reflect their different lifestyle. The conclusion of the results and their comparation to the teoretic base is described in the summary.
