About Freedom without Freedom: Meetings of Students in the U Bílého koníčka Club.
Mejstříková, Dorotea ; Vaněk, Miroslav (advisor) ; Wohlmuth Markupová, Jana (referee)
The diploma thesis "O svobodě v nesvobodě: Setkávání studentů U Bílého koníčka před rokem 1989." deals with the development of events in the student editorial boards of magazines and newspapers that preceded November 17th, 1989 from the perspective of beginning journalists, editors and graphic designers who teamed up in these magazines, who were able to quickly organize themselves, to inform peripherals about the intervention on Národní třída and to set up strike committees thanks to a network of contacts at faculties everywhere in Czechoslovakia. The work reflects the narratives of narrators about censorship, self- censorship, and the courage to write about otherwise forbidden topics. It deals with the role of the Czechoslovak Socialist Youth Union in the possibility of publishing magazines and the role of the students, who comment on their historical role several decades later. In addition to the testimonies of narrators who met at the Student Press and Information Centre in the U Bílého koníčka club, the diploma thesis also uses their diary entries and the periodical press analyses.
Transformation of radio broadcasting in Pardubice after 1989 (in relation to Radio Profil)
Nováková, Anna ; Groman, Martin (advisor) ; Cebe, Jan (referee)
The goal of this work is to describe (on the basis of archival sources, topical newspapers and magazines, legal enactments and interviews with personal observers) the emergence of the first private radio station in Eastern Bohemia in the beginning of nineties. This is seen as an example of wider transformation processes within the whole Czech media area. The state owned and controlled electronic media were substituted by private (mostly commercial) media and the statutory public-service broadcaster.

The bachelor thesis "Media (Re)Construction of Collective Memory: October and November as a Support for the Contemporary Czech National Identity" focuses on relation between mass media, collective memory and national identity. In accordance with social constructionism theory, the terms collective memory and national identity are understood as social constructs whereas mass media is considered to be one of the social construction agents. The aim of this work is to analyse a variety of media interpretations on significant Czech history events - October 28, 1918 and November 17, 1989. Analysed are newspaper commentaries published in order to commemorate these events during the eleven- year period from 1998 to 2009. As a resource for the analysis I have chosen three Czech daily newspapers - Hospodářské noviny, Lidové noviny and Mladá fronta DNES. The research method used is media qualitative content analysis. The work objective is to examine the typical media discourses based on national history which are constructed in a way to support contemporary Czech national identity. Not only does this thesis consist of research, it also includes methodology and theoretical framework.

The view of Czech cinematography in the 1990s is showed by professional reflection in the magazine Film a doba, traditional periodical published since 1955. The development of Czech cinematography is illustrated in the theoretical part with the help of literature, essays and critics. The paper also finds an answer to the question of how domestic cinematography and its criticism used an opportunity for development and whether it was successful. The research also includes external influences such as the gradual development of multiplexis, the privatization of film studios and the interest in films by Czech viewers under the influence of foreign titles.

This thesis deals with history, evolution and the activity of the cultural club of kindred spirits: Jonas club. Deeper attention is laid upon the question of mechanisms by which the so-called islands of freedom were constituted in the 1970s and 1980s. The work is time-framed by the years 1967-1989, therefore from the era of the establishment of the club until the Velvet revolution. The chosen witnesses usually remember most of the so-called normalization period. And the apriori given topics are followed with the aim to comprehend their subjective emic perspective. When it comes to the sources, the work draws upon the magazines which the club publishes from the very beginning of its existence until nowadays. As for the structure of the work, the text is divided into three larger sections, outside of the introduction and conclusion.
