The Czech-German Military-Security Cooperation vs. the Arising Strategic Culture of the Czech Republic
Stojanovová, Kamila ; Handl, Vladimír (advisor) ; Dvořák, Pavel (referee)
This bachelor thesis depicts the Czech-German military-security cooperation in context of the security cultures of both countries. It focuses on the specific German strategic culture, however, the process of emerging strategic culture in the case of Czech Republic as a possible limiting factor for the military cooperation with Germany has also been pointed out. The theoretical base of this work are the concepts of political- military culture from Thomas U. Berger and strategic culture from Kerry Longhurst. The key criteria for the compatibility-analysis of both strategic cultures are the historical experience with the use of military force, the attitudes to army and use of force across the political elite, in the public opinion and in strategic papers, and the legitimation process of military missions. According to this, the aim of the work is to find the reason why in the period prior to the accession of Czech Republic to NATO the cooperation in the political and practical spheres didn't take place in the same intensity. At the same time, it tries to find the reason why the participation of the Czech Army in PRT Faizabad has been the only significant moment in the military cooperation with Germany after the NATO-accession in 1999. However, this work doesn't leave out the recent development, which...
Efficiency of hospitals in the Czech Republic : DEA & SFA applications
Procházková, Jana ; Gregor, Martin (advisor) ; Chalupka, Radovan (referee)
This rigorous thesis estimates cost efficiency of 99 general hospitals in the Czech Republic during 2001-2008 using the Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) and the Stochastic Frontier Analysis (SFA). It tests comparability of their results finding out a certain qualitative similarity. Next, determinants were added into SFA and efficiency of Czech hospitals examined. The presence of inefficiency is group specific even having accounted for various determinants. Effects of determinants were tested. Inefficiency increases with teaching status, more than 20,000 treated patients a year, not-for-profit status, larger share of the elderly in the municipality and average salary in the district. Inefficiency de- creases with less than 10,000 patients treated a year, larger population, higher unemployment rate and more hospitals in the region. The IES WP enclosed incorporates comments raised previously against the master thesis, i.e. excludes the effect of unemployment as a determinant from the SFA model; it furhter uses wages direcly in the the cost function. Considerable similarity between the two SFA models has been found both in terms of coefficients and signs of the remaining variables, as well as, in terms of resulting efficiency scores. The effect of the labor market is thus dual in the former case but it is accounted for...

Housing Stock Analysis in the Regions of the Czech Republic
Bendžíková, Iva ; Hlaváček, Michal (advisor) ; Klinger, Tomáš (referee)
Housing capacity forms an important part of life of every society, and therefore it is important and interesting to examine this phenomenon more closely. The most comprehensive amount of data on this phenomenon provides Population and Housing Census conducted regularly by the Czech Statistical Office. The main objective of this work, using these and many other available sources, that are not only from the Czech Statistical Office, is a detailed analysis of the housing and residential capacity of the Czech Republic, that enable a global view on the issue. First, I focused on financing of the housing needs as a key factor for further development of the housing capacity. Then I looked at individual parameters, which characterized apartments and houses and circumstances that affect their appearance. Subsequently I examined the factors that influence the number of dwellings completed using real quarterly data from the Czech environment from the period 2000-2015. Regression analysis demonstrated the expected effect of variables such as average gross monthly wages and gross domestic product. But surprisingly, net migration and natural increase of population became a significant variable, which confirmed the influence of socioeconomic factors in the development and expansion of the housing capacity.
A construction of human trafficking in the Czech Republic
Černá, Steffi ; Střítecký, Vít (advisor) ; Ludvík, Jan (referee)
This thesis deals with the construction of human trafficking in the Czech Republic. It presumes that human trafficking is not an objective problem that can be accurately quantified and described, but that there are discourse types which are used by actors to frame the topic. I have identified four discourse types: human trafficking as organized crime, human trafficking as migration, human trafficking as prostitution and human trafficking as forced labour. The main actors in this field use the various types of securitization to present the theme of human trafficking. I also use the securitization approach described by Claudia Aradau, like is politics of pity and politics of risk. This thesis asks questions, who are the main actors in this securitization process and how do they create it and which discourse topics do they use. The construction of human trafficking is examined by discursive analysis. The most important source of information is the official documents of the main actors and their interaction that frames the topic. Interesting is also clash between discourse and practice, which comes out of different discursive types. The last chapter asks whether the desecuritization would not be good way to follow.
Innovation in cultural diplomacy: case of the Czech Republic and France
Volfová, Natálie ; Tomalová, Eliška (advisor) ; Váška, Jan (referee)
Innovation is an essential concept of today. Politicians, scientists, but also ordinary people talk about this concept. Everyone thinks that innovations are beneficial and needed. For a long time, this concept was primarily associated with the private sector. Nowadays, it is possible to find it in the everyday communication of public organizations and institutions. Because of that, it is possible to ask how public organizations who create state cultural diplomacy see innovations in their field of interest. Two cases - the Czech Republic and France display the essential differences and features in the adoption of innovations in the cultural- diplomacy agenda. The qualitative analyses of strategic documents, annual reports, and information about the performing cultural actions during the period 1.1.2015 - 31.12.2019 can show which innovations in the creation of cultural-diplomatic activities have appeared and if its adoption has differed in the two cases. The analyses include the French Institute in Prague and Czech Centre in Paris. Master's thesis will identify the types of innovations in cultural diplomacy, and the innovations will be classified into the typology of innovations in the public sector. In addition, it will be essential to discover if the state can affect the effective adoption of...
