Stone Statue of the Madonna with an Inscription – A Challenge Not Only for Epigraphers. The fragment of the stone Madonna with the Czech inscription „omylostywa” (Oh, Graceful), discovered in the town of Sázava and deposited in the local castle collections (originally a Benedictine monastery), was originally an enthroned Madonna connected to architecture. The drapery composition of the torzo and the inscription letter types enable one to date the statue from about 1400. The question arises of its placement: either in the accessible areas of the monastery or on a house or in a niche (chapel) located along the path leading to the monastery where it was always visible to the faithful who could pray there and venerate it. Furthermore, the hypothesis that indulgences would relate to the Madonna statue cannot be excluded.

Tombstones and Epitaphs of Italians in the Czech Lands during 1500-1620

Thus far, no attention with respect to nationality has been paid to tombstones and epitaphs of Italians who lived in the Czech lands during the Renaissance era and who were subsequently buried there. Nevertheless, it is an interesting segment of this specific type of sculpture, although rather from the perspective of cultural history and epigraphy than from the art history. The commissioners of these works largely adapted their taste to the established types of sepulchral monuments and epithaphs north of Alps. The convolute of these works is rather limited, thus far comprising of 11 works and only 4 of them are figural. Yet, sober inscription plates , decorated only with the coat of arms of the deceased person, prevail in the majority of sepulchral works of the researched convolute.Their austere artistic form can be explained by the influence of the Council of Trent´s ideology. The Prague synod in 1605 continued the refusal of pompous tombstones and had an unfavourable impact on the development of sepulchral sculpture.

Estate maps and their importance for the study of historical landscapes and serfdom towns

The dissertation deals with the knowledge and reconstruction of the historical landscape of the early to the upper modern period using cartographic sources, maps of the estates from the 18th and the first half of the 19th century, which have not been exploited so far. It seeks answers to the questions of what changes occurred in the landscape during this period and documents them, especially on the example of the serfdom towns in Bohemia. The dissertation is interdisciplinary in nature. It tries to contribute to research in historical geography and to fit thematically into the concept of studying historical landscapes (from identification and documentation to understanding the meanings of their transformations). However, it also uses the approaches of historical cartography in the research, analysis and processing of hitherto neglected cartographic sources - sources of information about the past. Attention in the study of historical landscapes and urban history has so far been paid rather to the younger period from the mid-19th century onwards, mainly because of the availability, mostly wider possibilities of processing the necessary historical sources (topographically more accurate old maps and plans of comparative character) and the accuracy of their narrative value. The Depiction of Apollo on Baroque murals The theme of the diploma thesis is the depiction of Apollo in Baroque frescoes. The figure of the antique God of Sun appears in our country most often in Baroque residences in several different themes. Apollo with his sun chariot is closely connected with the solar theme - due to its location in space, it refers us to the daily cyclicality. Apollo with his sun chariot, same as Aurora symbolizes an allegory of the arrival of a new day. We most often find this theme in halls and staircases, but also in Sala terrena. Specific examples can be seen, for example, in Náměšť nad Oslavou, where Apollo announces a new day, or in Slavkov u Brna where we find several paintings connected with daily cyclicality, and in the Sale terrain in Děčín as an example of outdoor decoration. Some rulers also identified with the god Apollo, so his figure is also present in some frescoes celebrating his client. We meet such an example in the Clam-Gallas Palace in Prague or in the Hall of the Ancestors of the chateau in Vranov nad Dyjí. Apollo with the Muses presents a celebration of art. Countess Serényi and the Town Blatná

COUNTESS SERENI AND THE TOWN OF BLATNA The thesis is not only a contribution to the regional history of Blatná nad Blatná district, but also a probe to the life of a baroque noble marital pair. The first part of the study (the 1st and 2nd chapters) takes heed of the research survey up to now, mainly of the personality of J.P.Hill, and the summary of sources. The reader is also acquainted with the life milestone of Marie Alžběty (Mary Elizabeth), countess Sereni, née Waldstein (1698 - 1787), and her husband, count Josef (Joseph) Sereni. The Blatná demesne was under their rule in the period of 1709 to 1787 (part 3.1). Part 3.2 deals with the official career of count Josef Sereni. Chapters 4 and 5 present an insight to the everyday life of barogue nobility, mainly through the medium of preserved accounts of the count household; the author deals with the question of banqueting, their residences, domestic stuff and wardrobe, primarily taking account of noble self-presentation. Its specific form - the problems of family legends - is analysed in chapter 6. The Reform of Baptism in the Czech Lands from the 15th to 17th Century: An Analysis of Liturgical Texts

This diploma thesis called "The Reform of Baptism in the Czech Lands from the 15th to 17th Century: An Analysis of Liturgical Texts" is focused on comparation of liturgical texts dealing with baptismal liturgy. The main objects of my interest are Agenda created in our territory from the 15th to 17th Century. In the first part of the thesis there is a short outline of baptismal's liturgy evolution from the New Testament period to the Martin Luther's reform. In the next part there are presented domestic Agenda containing baptismal forms which are the main subject of this thesis. These Agenda comes from Roman Catholic church, from Utraquist church, three Agenda represented the evangelical type and the last item describes the baptism in Unitas Fratrum during the period of Lukáš Pražský. Medieval building offerings from the archaeological perspective

This bachelor thesis deals with intentional deposits, a material evidence of customs connected with the foundation and construction of medieval buildings. The general principles of building offering recognition in the archaeological contexts were formulated on the basis of archaeological, written and ethnographical sources. Difficulties with their interpretation and terminology were discussed pursuant to the current discourse in European archaeology. Individual archaeological findings in the area of today's Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia from 6th to 16th century are presented and evaluated. Their list is also contained in the catalogue, which is put to this thesis. The Sovereign Confirmations of Chartres for Bohemian and Silesian Towns to 1420

The present work deals with confirmations that have issued Bohemian kings and princes of Silesia to Bohemian or Silesian towns. The work is divided into five parts. The first deals with existing exploration and methodological inspiration that I subsequently used. The second chapter summarizes the findings regarding the process of confirmation documents - from motives of its release, through the process of the documents in the office during the procedure, to handing over the finished instrument beneficiaries and paying taxes. Then I deal with the various types of confirmations and also I discuss separately the observational charters. The third part is devoted confirmations for the Bohemian towns with regard to all documents which the royal towns received, published by Bohemian kings. The problems are discussed from the perspective of publishers and recipients, as well as the documents themselves (their content, form). The same shall apply also in the case of the fourth chapter, which deals with the same aspects of the Silesian towns and confirmations, which they were received. The final chapter summarizes the findings, which I reached on the previous pages.
