Translation and stylistic analysis of a passage from Stargate Atlantis: The Lost, a novel by Jo Graham and Amy Griswold
Boško, Martin ; Ženíšek, Jakub (advisor) ; Pípalová, Renata (referee)
This Bachelor thesis deals with the literary translation of a part of a book called Stargate Atlantis: The Lost (2011) from English to Czech. It consists of three parts - the introduction, the practical part, and the theoretical part. Besides the introduction, there is a short passage in the first part that briefly synopsizes those of the Stargate series which preceded the book. This passage also familiarizes the reader with the Legacy series which was created after the end of the original series thanks to the work of some of its fans and is its unofficial continuation, mainly the Stargate Atlantis: Homecoming (2011) book, which is the immediate prequel of the book analyzed by this BA thesis. The practical part contains a mirror translation of the first three chapters created by the author of this thesis. The theoretical part of this work explores certain aspects of the translation and explains why the translation in the practical part is created the way it is. In addition to the explanation of the continuity principle regarding previous translations of the other parts of this series, which was the main motivation and a major influence on the way the translation was created, this part also lists the books of translation and linguistic theory which significantly contributed towards its scholarly...

The Inaugural Addresses of the Re-elected US Presidents after the WW2: Stylistic Analysis of Selected Features
Procházková, Alžběta ; Lancová, Klára (advisor) ; Ženíšek, Jakub (referee)
This bachelor thesis deals with identification, analysis and assessment of the usage of individual style in the inaugural addresses of the re-elected American presidents after the Second World War. The thesis is anchored in the functional approach to style as described by British linguists Crystal and Davy. The analysis focuses on syntactic, morphological, lexical and semantic levels of the inaugural addresses. From each level the analysis selects several stylistically significant features, which influence the style of writing and thus create an individual style. The selected Presidents' addresses are then compared and stylistic similarities and differences are examined.
Analysis of Jiri Ovcacek's Posts on Twitter
Kůsová, Lucie ; Podzimek, Jan (advisor) ; Láb, Filip (referee)
Since his appointment as the spokesperson of the President of the Czech Republic in December 2013, Jiří Ovčáček has been criticized by journalists, politicians, experts on ethics, and the public for his non-standard approach to the post. Particularly, Jiří Ovčáček has been reproached for his communication on the @PREZIDENTmluvci Twitter account. This thesis was working with the hypothesis claiming that Jiří Ovčáček does not behave in a standard way on the social network and does not use refined and serious language. The aim of this thesis was to analyse Jiří Ovčáček's Twitter communication style in terms of the acknowledged standards of a spokesperson. The thesis did not aim to verify the truth in Jiří Ovčáček's tweets, but it aimed to analyse to what extent the spokesperson's Twitter communication met the standards of the post. A sample of 300 tweets from 8th January to 19th February 2018 was analysed by means of the content analysis, particularly by the analytic-comparative method of stylistic analysis. Under the perspective of stylistics, the analysis aimed to identify expression differences in the choice of style, specifically the function of the message, the form of the national language, markedness with a focus on expression, the use of figurative language, irony and sarcasm. Additionally, the thesis...
