Self-reflection of cultural competences among nurses working in home care
CHVALOVÁ, Miroslava
Cultural competence is a set of cultural knowledge that enables non-medical health professionals to achieve appropriate outcomes when caring for and working with clients/patients from a different country. The main aim of our study was to find out what cultural competencies nurses have in home care. The empirical part used a quantitative research method in home care settings. Respondents answered a questionnaire consisting of 88 questions and two parts namely standardized and non-standardized part. We surveyed the nurses' awareness of the culture of patients/clients, their level of cultural competence, focusing on cultural skills, cultural knowledge and cultural sensitivity and lastly, we surveyed the nurses' self-assessment of cultural competence. 108 respondents took part in the research and the results of the survey indicate that the characteristics mentioned in the hypotheses, age and educational attainment, are not related to the level of cultural competence of non-medical health workers. It also shows that the majority of nurses do not think that knowledge of a foreign language is important in practice and half of them do not even use a foreign language. However, they do not have negative attitudes towards foreigners and recognize the importance of lifelong learning in order to provide culturally competent care. This work could serve as educational material for students, future non-medical health workers. The results of the thesis will be published in a journal that will be beneficial to non-medical health personnel as well as the general public and will also be presented at a conference.
Living with the river. Svitava transformation in Brno.
Bystroň, Tomáš ; Zadražilová, Miroslava (referee) ; Wittmann, Maxmilian (advisor)
The aim of the project is to transform the former factory site between Valchařská Street and the Svitava River. As pointed out in the pre-diploma thesis (BYSTROŇ Tomáš, Kde budeme bydlet Brno), the current function of the site no longer corresponds to the potential of the site. On the other hand, in terms of location and proximity to natural features, the site seems very favourable for the location of a new residential quarter, which will benefit from the waterfront and the surrounding parks and woodland, as well as from very good connections to public transport and through it to the centre of Brno.
Možný vliv genových variant v genu COMT na projevy ADHD a/nebo ASD
ŠMELCOVÁ, Miroslava
This work is focused on examining the influence of the COMT gene in two diseases: ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) and ASD (autism spectrum disorder). Autism spectrum disorder is a behavioral syndrome characterized by impaired social interaction, impaired communication, and abnormalities in behavior, interests, and play. ADHD is a neurodevelopmental disease that causes problems mainly in the area of concentration, adjustment of activity and excessive impulsivity. Both mentioned diseases can be genetically conditioned, and therefore this work is focused on researching the frequency representation of gene variants responsible for low or high levels of dopamine in people with autism spectrum disorder and with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder compared to the control population. We performed a genetic analysis on two polymorphisms of the COMT gene, namely the more well-known rs4680 and rs4818. The analysis itself included DNA isolation, PCR amplification, control of the PCR product using gel electrophoresis, purification and sequencing of the PCR product and, in the last step, evaluation of the DNA sequence. Based on our results in the laboratory, we did not confirm the hypothesis that the above polymorphisms in the COMT gene represent a risk factor for ASD and ADHD. Our results were probably influenced by the small number of people in the monitored groups, but even this work helped in a small fragment to understand the cause of the complicated pathology of these diseases.
Application of Dunningova-Kruger effect in interviewing and hiring
KRIŽKOVÁ, Miroslava
The aim of this work is to use the Dunning-Kruger effect, a cognitive bias in which individuals with limited expertise tend to overestimate their abilities, as a skill assessment tool in employee selection. The theoretical section examines and explains the Dunning-Kruger effect, discusses the original study, and provides additional examples of the Dunning-Kruger effect from other studies. It also delineates the theory related to personnel issues. In the practical section, specific areas of testing are researched, and an experiment is conducted on students who are given tests to determine their ability to correctly assess their knowledge and skills in the areas of social intelligence, English language, and logical reasoning. Based on the results, the difference between their performance on the tests and their self-assessment is examined. In the discussion and conclusion, the results are interpreted and recommendations are proposed to personnel managers. The findings show that the effect is most pronounced when estimating ability of social intelligence and English. Self-assessment of logic skills proved to be the most reliable.
Reflection on the concept of reproductive health education in primary education.
Scheithauerová, Lenka ; Marádová, Eva (advisor) ; Kovaříková, Miroslava (referee) ; Šulová, Lenka (referee)
The research yielded in the field fails to explain how reproductive health education has been implemented in primary schools during the 1990s, and how it fulfilled the initial expectations with which it was introduced, from the perspective of its participants. The objective of the presented dissertation is to propose further potential steps towards the advancement of this domain and to identify topics suitable for further research in the field of reproductive health education on the basis of a survey of available sources, current research and presented research. The project examines the issue through the perspective of respondents from two countries: the Czech Republic and Spain. These two European nations implemented reproductive health education during the same period, yet with distinct approaches. Spain, with its strong Catholic tradition, contrasts with the Czech Republic, which registers a relatively low proportion of individuals with declared religious affiliation, according to statistical data from the Czech Statistical Office (ČSÚ) in 2021. The research participants consist of current adolescents and young adults aged 15 to 26 from the Czech Republic and Spain, who attended primary school during the systematic introduction of reproductive health education. The study aimed to investigate how...

Pension fund investments in the Czech Republic
Novotný, Ondřej ; Vybíral, Roman (advisor) ; Večeř, Miroslava (referee)
Pension fund investments in the Czech Republic Abstract and keywords The thesis deals with the regulation of pension fund investments in the Czech Republic, specifically the investments of participating funds, transformed funds and the pan-European personal pension product. In the thesis, I have described each of the considered systems in turn and made a comparison between them. The aim of my thesis was to describe the regulation and to suggest possible adjustments to the regulation so that it could lead to better outcomes for participants in pension products. I have used communication with investment professionals and academic papers on the subject to determine the practical impact of each regulation. The analysis I carried out led to the development of recommendations, which I used to conclude the sections for each pension product. I also inserted some recommendations into the sections on the different aspects of the pension products. The thesis is divided into four chapters, the first of which is an introduction to the system that has been established in the Czech Republic. The following three chapters describe and evaluate the legal regulations of the different pension products according to the date of their creation. Thus, in the second chapter I deal with supplementary pension insurance, describing...
Memories of an Aegean Borderscape: Belonging to Imvros (Gökçeada/Ίμβρος)
Brody, Laura Nicole ; Horová, Miroslava (advisor) ; Tsimouris, Giorgos (referee) ; Carpentier, Nico (referee)
Zoning in on the Aegean island of Imvros - Gökçeada in Turkish and Ίμβρος in Greek - this thesis deploys the developing 'borderscape' lens to explore socio-political myths of belonging linked to processes of diaspora creation and return. By tracing diverse 'borderscaping' practices which have occurred on Imvros since its post-WWI cession to the newly-created Turkish nation- state and the exemption of its Greek-speaking inhabitants from the 1923 Greco-Turkish population exchange, it highlights a substantial shift between 'hegemonic borderscape' and 'counter-hegemonic borderscape' eras occurring on the island roughly in the early 1990s. Whereas the 'hegemonic borderscape' era is linked to the multifaceted impact(s) of Turkish nation-building on the forced displacement of Imvros' Greek-speaking inhabitants - and thus the parallel creation of the Imvriot diaspora - primarily between the 1960s and 1980s, the 'counter-hegemonic borderscape' era is instead linked to the unfolding diasporic return movement which has been partaken in by some members of the Imvriot diaspora since the early 1990s. Data for this thesis also draws on 42 interviews and 33 mental maps collected from first, second and third-generation members of the Imvriot diaspora who agreed to participate in a grounded theory ethnography conducted in...
