Sadílková, Tereza ; Štoll, Martin (advisor) ; Maršík, Josef (referee)
This thesis is focused on the digital radio station Czech radio Leonardo. Its primary task was to popularize science and technology and it should also provide a platform for testing new possibilities and technologies applicable to digital broadcasting. The aim of my work is to describe the station especially in terms of its content and format assignment and technology of transmission and to define the specifics of the station's production, which arose from stated characteristics. The practical part is devoted to the analysis of two programs, Vstupte and Natura, that illustrate the findings. The station was predetermined to concentrate on minority audience, which had the common interest in science or new technologies, although they created relatively stable audience group. However, the station seemed to miss a clear image. My attempt is therefore to find, for whom was Leonardo primarily intended a how it managed to bring its content to diverse audience, for example by adjusting the level of expertise or by covering wide range of topics.

Šára, Filip ; Novotný, David Jan (advisor) ; Štoll, Martin (referee)
The topic of the bachelor thesis is "Media Image of The Danish Director Lars von Trier in Contrast of A Professional and A Popular Magazine." Media image is a very broad term that deserves a more detailed explanation. It contains several aspects of the media as well as cultural and social areas: a construction of the text, a way of how to work with information, services for the readers, the elements of art journalism or the principles of the proper use of the Czech language. Last but not least, objectivity, the semiotic semantic encoding of texts, the policy of selected printed periodicals and ultimately, the personal and the professional life of the films' creator including his works. The thesis represents the controversial filmmaker Lars von Trier in the context of his work and personality. Emphasis is placed on journalistic work at the weekly periodical Reflex and the quarterly magazine Film and Time (Film a doba). Selection is not random - its purpose is to highlight the diversity of styles of the popular and specialised periodicals, as indicated by the term "contrast" in the title of the bachelor thesis. Analysis of individual materials, mentioning von Trier (and consequent approaches) is the core of the thesis. My goal is to summarize the results of reporting about the director and the...

The penetration of entertainment into the news paradigm, its reflection and influence on the public sphere
Klimeš, David ; Jirák, Jan (advisor) ; Štoll, Martin (referee) ; Trampota, Tomáš (referee)
The aim of my work is to describe the penetration of entertainment into the news and the normative reflection of this phenomenon. In the first chapter I conceptualize the phenomenon and discuss the basic literature on the topic. In the subsection I present my concept of the relationship between infotainment and other media concepts from the most general to specific ones such as infotainment. Further, I describe the Czech normative reflection on three different levels: the theoretical debate, the professional debate within political discourse (in which I also include the activity of regulatory authorities), and the debate within journalistic discourse. In the second chapter I show methodological attempts at coping with the penetration of entertainment and I suggest a methodological approach for my own research. In the third chapter I describe historically the onset of the news paradigm in the Czech media landscape, the penetration of entertaining elements into it, and the increased interpretive power of journalists in the commercialized infotainment news. After the description of the Czech normative reflection of this phenomenon and the presentation of the research, I propose a new approach to examine the fusion of entertainment and news.
Intercultural communication of close cultures in the light of the Czech-Polish case
Šírová - Majkrzak, Anna ; Opletalová, Lenka (advisor) ; Štoll, Martin (referee) ; Soukup, Václav (referee)
This paper puts the issue of Czech-Polish relationships into a context of the intercultural communication. The culturological approach used for the analysis of the communication between cultures brings a new holistic view. Factors of close cultures, the impact of a conflict as well as the importance of intercultural competences are analysed. Based on the Czech-Polish case, barriers to the intercultural communication are specified and discussed. These barriers rise from language, stereotypes, information, religion and history. A question of comicality and prestige of a language not to say entire culture is articulated. The new Network Theory of Barriers is suggested which introduces a closely related networked set of above mentioned obstacles. New platforms for the intercultural dialogue are outlined that can bring a possibility to step out of the circle of misunderstanding. These platforms consist of improving language skills, international institutions and the Internet.
