Konopásková, Veronika ; Ondrušová, Jiřina (advisor) ; Cimrmannová, Tereza (referee)
Diploma thesis Problem of homelessness Supervisor: MUDr. Jiřina Ondrušová Author: Bc. Veronika Konopásková Year of submission: 2013 Annotation The topic of the thesis is the problem of homelessness in contemporary Czech society. Specifically, it focuses on the concept of homelessness, its forms, history and presence in the Czech Republic. Further, I describe the lifestyle of homeless people, their health (physical and mental) and the problem of alcoholism among the homeless. I deal with homeless people as crime offenders and victims as well. Some of the practical problems of living as homeless are mentioned (loss of personal documents, the issue of homeless foreigners or the dependence on social services). The example of the Prague branch of civic organisation Naděje illustrates the range of social services for the homeless. Another part of the thesis is a case study of five homeless people. Further, I focus theoretically on public attitudes towards homelessness, including conducting a search of surveys published on this topic. An important part of the thesis is carrying out a quantitative survey on public attitudes towards homelessness. After describing the objectives, methodology and implementation of the survey, an extensive statistical analysis of data from 595 respondents follows along with...
Reference vocalization in African grey parrot (Psittacus erithacus)
Brojerová, Jana ; Lindová, Jitka (advisor) ; Policht, Richard (referee)
The ability to communicate referentially has been historically viewed as being uniquelly human. However, with the increasing amount of studies discussing the communicative faculty of animals in the context of the evolution of human language, there is now growing evidence that this ability is present in many animal species, too. Although we know a lot about mimetic abilities of domesticated African grey parrots' (Psittacus erithacus) and their competence to use human words in a referential way, we know very little about the elements of referentiality in their natural vocalization. Our goal in this work was to find, whether and in which context is functionally referential vocalization in this species of birds present. We were determining its presence by the experiment, in which we have exposed four captured African grey parrot, in the ownership of FHS UK Prague, to stimuli that in other animal species usually elicit functionally referential vocalization: predators and prefered type of food. We analysed the behaviour and vocalizations of the tested birds by analytic softwares Interact, respectively Soundforge 0.8. We find out, that despite the fact that birds reaponded to our experimental objects appropriatelly (i.e. "predators" caused more fear and the like), they give the major amout of...

Peštová, Anna ; Pavlík, Petr (advisor) ; Jahodová, Dita (referee)
Diploma thesis "Sport and Intersexuality in Media" deals with the topic of intersexuality in professional sport, which was at the centre of media attention during the World Athletics Championship in Berlin in August 2009, as the South African athlete Caster Semenya won on the 800 m track. Because of her sports performance in conjunction with her appearance she had to undergo a sex test and until its evaluation she was excluded from athletic competitions. The aim of the study was to analyse texts published by selected nationally distributed Czech printed journals by using the quantitative content analysis and to describe the image of intersexuality, a publicly infrequently discussed topic, media submit to its readers, to capture any differences in the presentation of intersexuality and intersex people between the analysed media and to evaluate, whether and how the media contribute to retaining of the existing power order discriminating intersex people or whether they try to undermine this order.
On the theory of narrative computer game
Olšan, Jan ; Češka, Jakub (advisor) ; Fulka, Josef (referee)
On the theory of narrative computer game Bc. Jan Olšan Diplomová práce Univerzita karlova v praze, Fakulta humanitních studií, Katedra elektronické kultury a sémiotiky Vedoucí práce: Mgr. Jakub Češka, Ph.D. Praha 2013 Abstract The paper focuses on computer games that include narrative content (that is, such games that tell a story). Its goal is to reveal a theoretic delineation of the nature and inner working of narrative computer game as a specific (art) form, such that would broaden understanding of its properties, possibilities it opens and also to present a basic sort of a definition for it. This basic nature of the subject is discovered in the way the "agent - game situation" coupling is being formed. This coupling is present in both game and narrative, and being a common base, it facilitates integration of both forms into a new one, in this way: the player of the game becomes the agent, controlling the story's protagonist; and the narrative, constituted by the story plot and the conflict it includes and which the player faces, becomes the game situation. This integration produces a new, homogeneous form, from which both the simulation and the narrative parts of narrative computer game can be deduced. In this way it is shown that the apparent contradictory discrepancy between these two parts and the...
Teachers'Experiences when Encouraging Social Interaction in Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in Mainstream Schools. A Case Study in the Czech Republic
Di Giuseppe, Kisley ; Šiška, Jan (advisor) ; Šumníková, Pavlína (referee)
The rights of students with AS I) to enter mainstream settings have been strongly advocated. However, past research has shown that inclusion might prove challenging for them, leading to isolation from mainstream peers. This study focuses on how the interviewee-teachers in the Czech Republic operate to provide opportunities for meaningful anil sustainable social inclusion for learners with ASD. What knowledge they share to help these students socialize, and how they respond to challenges. In this study, two different approaches providing skills and techniques to develop genuine social interaction are considered. Firstly, the individually-based approach, where the student is taught how to develop social skills. Secondly, the child-to-child approach which aims to give guidance to classmates. This is a case- study in two urban primary schools in Prague. Five teachers were selected using a convenience sampling strategy within the purposeful sampling. Semi-structured interviews with open-ended questions, participant observations ami field-notes were used to combine multiple sources when collecting data. The research questions evolved as the study progressed. Tlie data verifies that in general interviewee- teachers recognise benefits in social interaction. They see positive advances in both the individual's...
Teacher's Beliefs, Values and Teaching Practices and Culture of Inclusion in Classrooms: a Hermeneutic Pehonomenological Study
Abdul Nasir, Sheikh Jamal ; Stará, Jana (advisor) ; Šiška, Jan (referee)
Implementation of inclusive education involves changes in educational policy and practice through the incorporation of inclusive values in the belief systems of the major partners and leaders in the school settings. A review of the literature indicates that sustainable change and development is more likely when the stakeholders hold such values and incorporate them in their practices to create a culture of inclusion. Inclusive cultures have relevance for everyone in the school and cannot be limited to a specific group of students creating yet another ghetto within the mainstream school and leading to exclusion in the name of inclusion. Despite the importance of the beliefs, values and practices of the teachers in relation to the culture of inclusion, the relation of beliefs to inclusive cultures had not been studied in the Czech Republic. Some studies did investigate teachers' attitudes towards inclusion of children with disabilities in the mainstream schools but none of the studies investigated the beliefs, values and practices in relation to the culture of inclusion. This study was designed to investigate the views of teachers practicing inclusion. The teachers were asked to reflect and describe their beliefs, values and teaching practices that contributed to creating cultures of inclusion in their...
Clothing as Manifestation of Power and Hierarchy from the End of the 14th Century to the End of the 15th Century. Comparison of the Developement in the Czech Lands and Burgundy
Hojková, Anna ; Nejedlý, Martin (advisor) ; Svátek, Jaroslav (referee)
The thesis "Clothing as Manifestation of Power and Hierarchy from the End of the 14th Century to the End of the 15th Century. Comparison of the Developement in the Czech Lands and Burgundy" describes the evolution of clothing style in both countries. It is based mainly on iconographic resources, with some additional information from written sources and literature. On this base the approach and means to this kind of representation of secular higher class in given areas are compared. The original basis of the 14th century French court culture was further developed by the Burgundian society, with emphasis on the shaped silhouette. On the other hand, the Czech lands departed from this way and adopted a new direction to the German area. The transalpine impulses are reflected as late as in the last quarter of the 15 th century. The material of the clothes is assessed as a more important aspect of representation than the shape. The text outlines also the way of further development as well as points out some unclear articles of the topic.
